Wolves v King’s Lynn 2nd Sept
stevebrum replied to Bagpuss's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Certainly wasn’t the worst meeting on BT of the season, although Wolves were racing. That would be the dreadful Poole track that was a danger and a liability. At present there is no match on Monday on TV -
Coventry?

Yes that’s what I was referring too. Thanks.

Finishing top particularly this year is key because one of Ippo or Aces look vulnerable. The other semi should indeed be one tough encounter. -

Took Gollob 2 rides to figure Monmore out! Was awful before. -
Indeed very poor. Never got the preoccupation with some rating him. Good stats, which of course proves how hopeless those next generation riders are on the world stage. Good stats again, seems his career has been in free fall for 5 seasons.

Don’t think Poole will try too hard to take the win, they would much rather Ipswich be in the play offs than Wolves or Kings Lynn because if either do they will be bang in form. -
Pretty much agree, Berntzon is definitely on the rise and can’t be far away from THJ stats wise if anyone has the Polish stats as proof. What any stats prove is that there has been no decent Swedish rider on the world stage since Freddie and Antonio. Thorssell, Berntzon have done no worse on the GP stage than THJ.
-
Not one person even from Ipswich expected them to be anything but cannon fodder. It would be a bit like any Peterborough fan saying they won’t now finish bottom. (Yes we know one troll does but the multi poster doesn’t count).
-
Everyone had Ipswich bottom pre season.
-
Be interesting to see his averages from the main leagues during this time. I don’t ever remember his scoring being that impressive but happy to stand corrected. Sweden are in a poor state if THJ is the best thing since then!
-
I’d agree. THJ should score some points in reserve, so would Worrall if he was in that position. No way is he better these days, not for many days now.
-
We are talking of world class riders since Fred and Tonio. We all know PK, AJ, even Mikael Max were still considered class whilst those boys were around. THJ I don’t think has ever been classed as world class, if so it’s false labelling. THJ has ridden several seasons now in reserve, I don’t even think he rides in Poland anymore. Best of a bad bunch of the rest?? Maybe, maybe not. Berntzon has gone under the radar a lot, and wish he had come to Wolves when it looked possible 3 or 4 seasons ago. Berntzon is holding down a 1st team place in Sweden and rides in Poland too. I don’t think there is much in it personally. THJ has never reached World stage status.
-
Should? He has never achieved that over here. Some we know are on fake averages. 5 is about what you can expect from him. He has been in downfall for years.
-
Already stated that Ljung is older. We aren’t ‘looking over his career’ we are looking at what he has to offer now. I think we can all agree that Sweden haven’t produced any World class riders since Freddie and Antonio, which I think was the point we were discussing.
-
THJ average from last time he was here was 4.64. He isn’t as good as you think then.
-
Yes true, Ljung seems to be able to pull out decent races at World level without ever really looking like a world class rider. And yes fair point he around before both named Swedes.
-
As part of the company deal I guess then?
-
The likes of Nilsson, Berntzon, Thorssell have also all represented their country in GPs and WTC since 2014 and Thorssell is current Swedish Champion. All are achieving better in Sweden these days so are comfortably ahead of him these days. The Swedes haven’t produced anyone of suitable class on the big stage since Lindgren and Lindback, with only Ljung a possible candidate. Sweden are in a worse state than GB for producing the next generation.

Exactly. Makes perfect sense. RR in the play offs is too risky but Poole are doing ok with RR for now. cant beat having a full strength team.
