Next Friday the Pirates make the long drive north to Glasgow for the championship meeting. A shame it’s behind closed doors as at least a couple of us were planning to head up on the 8 hour trip. I have never been to Glasgow speedway and it looks like it’s going to remain this way. £250 return from Southampton with Loganair, plus Travel lodge and taxis from airport to track and track to hotel then back to airport next day. So paying the £11.95 for the stream and hoping it’s watchable. https://tv.glasgowtigers.co.uk/events Hoping for the bonus point.

Humes deserved another ride but clearly it was decided that we would make no rider changes in this meeting. If Humes had been used in heat 12 I feel sure Poole would have won by a point. Will give a mention to Brennan who is certainly one for the future and this could well be a very good year for the lad. One EF is unfortunate. Two is bad maintenance or prep and he needs to sort his pit crew out there. Knows the quickest way around Arlington and used the inside line out of bend two which our Aussies found impossible. Only Steve Worrall for Poole used it. Good news for Poole is that if we have to go there in a playoff situation the place will hold little fear. Feel confident we would see Eastbourne off over two legs. Our Aussies will find the shape of the Poole track much more to their liking.

Well that was gutting. Poole by far the better team considering two of the riders have never set foot inside Arlington before. Eastbourne scrapped home by winning the toss at the start of the meeting and choosing heat 15. That gave them the 1 and 3 needed to get home by a point. There was some decent racing in front of what looked like a healthy crowd though the official gate was exactly 1000. Nice to catch up with many friendly faces again after a long layoff. Middlo clearly not wanting to make any tactical changes tonight although Hume for Cook in heat 12 was screaming to be done. And why did the ref excluded Cook when it looked like from where we were that Kemp knocked him off? For Poole Schlein was OK. First meeting in a while so didn’t expect too much. Keleher had never seen the place. Gated ok but just couldn’t get to grips with the track and struggled badly with bend 2. Worrall was very good. Can’t fault his effort with plenty of passing. Just outgated in heat 15. Neilsen tried all night. King was good value but on the graveyard 4 in heat 15. Cook found it very tough. First visit but tried hard. Hume was good value. Should really have had an extra ride. Plengy to come from this Pirates side, though patience will be required to give our new riders a chance to bed in. For Eastbourne. They got lucky. The home crowd went home happy but deep down they knew they got out of jail due to a coin toss and Poole giving all their riders their full quota. Nice touch to have a minutes silence for covid victims and Jon Cook, which was observed perfectly.

Poole Pirates 2021

Thought the tickets would be on sale by now. -
Zmarzlik got better. Thought Holder jnr and Przedoenski rode well. Lamberts gating cost him tonight against lightening starters like Wozniak and the Swede. Torun did better than I thought tonight. But they are one good rider short of a decent side and Meidzinski needs to go. Holta would do a better job imo.

Poole Pirates 2021

That is what I heard. You saying it’s completely wrong? -
For the first time in years, the mighty Pirates head along the south coast for what in the past was some good old budgie bashing. They were great days, watching Dugard Jnr hit the deck on bend on, floppy Norris trying to get past Trick, and Dugard Snr doctoring the track on his tractor, then blowing a fuse and not allowing Poole a victory lap after yet another victory. Great times. I don’t expect Saturday to live up to those great heady days, but it’s the first meeting for us and for some of our team their first chance to race. Weather is looking set fair, and not many tickets are left. Main straight and first and second bends sold out. Expecting a budgie win but want to see some real effort from us guys. Bring it on! https://www.trybooking.com/uk/events/landing?eid=17215&

Poole Pirates 2021

Big difference. The council own the stadium as a gift for the people of Poole to only be used as a sporting stadium. GI are renters/leaseholders. Nothing more. They prefer the stadium shut because it then costs them nothing. They now only have 2 staff to operate the car park. They let go all their stadium staff. For the carpark 500 x £7 every day is like printing money. £3500 x 5 days min is thank you very much as it is used by the hospital staff. Ok that’s the max but it’s always full. GI will not relinquish the lease. Neither will they touch the stadium, so don’t expect an shiny new stands. If the stadium is to. E improved it will have to be done by speedway fans raising the funds. As for the football returning, who is going to pay 40-50,000 for a new track? -

Spent the day doing double work so I was free tomorrow, only to arrive back from Brighton to read this. Must admit there were some massive Cu-Nims about and very impressive they looked as well with big anvil tops to them.
