Could Matty Wethers not get treated the same if he still wanted to race? surely can’t be comparing Victor not riding in Britain for 6 years too Ashton here? I would assume so if Matty did. TigerIain
Boughen got a 15 point maximum away at Redcar last year, and got 13+1 from 6 rides at Ashfield, including a win in heat 10 when Bomber couldn't get close enough to even attempt a pass, which is very rare at Ashfield so he clearly has got talent. (AB had a tapes exclusion in heat 3, and finished behind Bomber and Masters who had the 2nd best race of the night & season in heat 15 that night). Sadly this season he just hasn't been the same rider, and it does appear to be a mental issue. Possibly not a quick or easy fix but I hope that he does get whatever the issue(s) is/are sorted and that we do see him back on a speedway bike showing off his talent

No. Comparing it to saying Max Clegg etc not getting an average reduction. Got the impression you were against all average reductions, so I was just pointing out an average reduction from this year. Sure when Matty was interviewed at Berwick, he basically said his average was what it was so nobody had offered him a team place.
screm
If young Ashton reads this forum and sees sixteen pages dedicated to himself, he`ll never believe he was that good. 1
Technik
19 hours ago, scaramanga said: some riders are expected to carry there youth/ndl form up with them when they start ridding the higher leagues what i will say watching Ashton on streams is he always seamed to be by himself more often than not in pits maybe the issue is more with the pressure on him from his own team or expectation of the people like us watching in he was great as a 15 year old just like william cairns was last year but noticed his scores have dropped a little before he turns 16 and joins poole next weekend I agree with the fact that he always seems to be alone, But in some ways I think that is of his own making. I have seen him in the pits ear pods in & scrolling on his phone whilst other riders are watching the races & seeing track changes develop. It's one thing to be your own man but you have to be aware of whats going on. This season I believe both his clubs expected him to at least maintain his scores but he has not even been prepared to race, Whilst he is not much more than a novice speedway rider he chose to race for those clubs in March & now he has chosen to stand down, I understand that but fail to grasp why he took to the track & in my opinion didn't make enough effort to race

Maybe had the backing to provide very good machines when in the NDL and lower ranks, doing very well , but now up against the big boys in the leagues, may have the macharry but not the knowledge or experience to do well. Maybe too much too soon when in a lower level ? Been a few riders like that over the years Kyle Bickley one of them

THE DEAN MACHINE
1 minute ago, Arthur54 said: Obviously not returning to speedway any time soon, putting all his equipment up for sale Correct decision imo, the lad obviously has the natural talent but there is a mental block in there somewhere, it was all on show last year at numerous meetings where he just shut off and you can’t race speedway like that, you will get injured, speedway is one of the most head strong sports there is and if your head isn’t 100% in it you’re better off out of it
WembleyLion
A good and sensible decision - I wish him well outside of Speedway.
Bald Bloke
Good luck in what ever you do in the future👍 Update "So i have decided I won’t be returning back to speedway for the foreseeable future. I am going to concentrate on getting my qualifications for my work which I am enjoying doing. Just want to say a massive thanks to kings lynn who have been behind me all the way this year and it’s just unfortunate the way it’s turned out. I will have lots of equipment coming up for sale if there is anyone interested, drop me a message."
TTT
I'm glad Ashton's come to the right decision. Got his whole life ahead of him and I wish him all the best for his future outside of the sport.
