Diamonds85
The camera angles are embarrassing. How did they consistently miss every single bit of action. Particularly in Heat 10 with Emil. And even after the race when he was clearly doing a lap of honour... Random crowd shot for a solid 15 seconds rather than the actual action...

With the random fan shot of them "going wild" as Kelvin described, being about 15 people, several sat in camping chairs, with loads of space between them and around them... An amazing overtake to hopefully get some interest from anyone watching who may not follow the sport... And then a clear message delivered of "does anyone go to this sport?".. No FOMO message unfortunately, which the sport over here could desperately do with delivering when on TV .. Maybe for TV meetings, (as they obviously don't want to reduce prices to get more people in), possibly close certain areas to make supporters stand or sit closer together? Zooming in on a hundred or so together celebrating (thus also hiding the camping chairs😁), must give a much greater "brand image" than sadly gets generated currently every time the two hours worth of advertising goes out... These moments are the ones that can truly "sell the sport", but the lack of a crowd shot showing massive enthusiasm and volume of people, sell it far, far too short... One of Poland's "wow factors" is exactly this. If Emil had done that over there the camera would have panned round on thousands wildly celebrating which only reflects positively on the sport, and creates positivity for the sport, giving it a "I must not miss this" vibe, which then in course brings more in to watch... People are like sheep, they will follow what others follow if you can generate enough interested people in the first place. That is where hype comes in, and it doesn't have to be all true.... Zooming in on a 100 can make the place look full and somewhere worth me visiting "because they have"... Edited June 24 by mikebv

Maybe they should herd a lot of them into the back straight stand - the problem with Ipswich is even a 2-3k crowd can look spread out but last night the crowds looked less than half what it usually is. GeneralMelchett
Having watched the main highlights again - what a great night for Danny King - TomB had been a bit of a concern of late too but he rode really well last night too.

The thing is though if you pay for sports TV then paying another £25 to go and watch live is not so attractive, especially as people remember TV meetings being dragged out with all the breaks. The only way to change that is offer discounted admission on TV nights.

I know dear old JL used to hate having sky in town as he used to complain that the crowd drop and lack of takings exceeded the payment for the meeting coverage! No idea if its still the same. I personally quite like the highlights they do from the other meeting and have often thought that a match of the day style show would be better particulary if its broadcast a day or so later! Given the fact no one on here seems to truly like the tv meetings maybe thats the way to go. I did watch a meeting on the BSN last week Leicester when they thumped BV and I did feel the production was better etc but again the crowd did look lower to me than it sometimes is from Leicester.

At one point I’m sure the idea of having TV money was so that clubs could discount the prices and attract more to come, the benefit to them being it would look better on TV and attract new supporters but alas they got greedy and wanted both the TV money and keep gate prices high.

The. only match that ever looked sold out on TV was when Lakeside promoted the free meeting - a few thousand were there - of course most never came back! I will give our old promotoer his due he really tried to promote things!

About half of Foxhall stadium is already closed off - it's a very big space, which the "temporary" stands taken from the Olympics have made even bigger, by stretching further up and away from the track. I have no idea how people can enjoy the racing from up there - you're far enough from the track on the original terracing. Most British speedway stadia look empty. BV certainly does - another huge space, and with only two main spectator areas, both of which are sparsely populated for Prem matches on TV. Badge
Haven't watched it on tv yet so not sure how sparce the crowd looked on the coverage, but I wa actually surprised how many came tbh, what with the TV being there, but also the nightmare journey most of us had to get there🙄 From the pits, it was evident that Dan and Jason being back really boosted the other guys which I think showed in their racing. And that's with 4 of them carrying injuries. It felt like normal service resumed. Fingers crossed all of them can heal well with no further problems.
ItsaFiveOne
Quote I wa actually surprised how many came tbh, what with the TV being there, but also the nightmare journey most of us had to get there🙄 I agree. I can usually get to Foxhall in 15 minutes. Last night it took me an hour. The other factor which always hits the attendance of televised meetings at Foxhall is that TV meetings are always on Mondays. Ipswich is a Thursday night track and inevitably it seems that a proportion of regulars will have work or family commitments that prevent them from attending Monday evening meetings. The only Monday meetings that get a good crowd at Foxhall are the Bank Holiday afternoon meetings which are usually packed. Very difficult to do that tactically, because they would need to balance last night's score with the oldest rides/points score being removed from the Rolling Averages. I'm sure that all teams must keep an eye on their Green Sheets. For info, Klindt will be at reserve for KL in July, 0.02 below Cook. Finishing behind Cook in the last heat at BV could have made that difference ...

Finishing behind Cook in the last heat at BV could have made that difference ... If it's that close I would say it could be tactical. If Masters had scored a couple more points in the meeting (for a rider of his calibre scoring 5 points from 5 rides is possible) then for the month of July Max Fricke wouldn't have been able to take a r/r ride. Getting hammered 23-7 makes it possible. I would be for my team doing the same. Before last night Masters was above Becker in the rolling averages. Chris116
I read a lot of comments about the problems with TV meetings being drawn out and attracting smaller crowds. I have to question if the TV money makes up for the smaller crowds and if TV has brought any new spectators who now visit their local track regularly. With most meetings being covered by BSN, TNT or local track streams there must be a danger that tracks will close because of TV rather than TV increasing crowds. I don't have an answer to the problem but I can see all to clearly that the sport has a problem (well, quite a few actually). I just wish I had an answer to the problem or even better that the BSPL had an answer and could stick to any five year plan to sort out the situation.
