Ipswich v Belle Vue 14/08

I predicted 8 points for the bottom four at Sheffield but over estimated their capabilty level on a track that you needed to ride out wide in the dirt to have any chance..

Ipswich is much less intimidating and daunting, so will go again with eight points from them.. 

Cook 4, Blodorn 3, Zischke/Mulford 1 between them...(whoever gets third in heat two)..

The usual thirty from the top three off 15 rides, so 52 - 38...

Can I just add I personally think Bewley is the most likeable Brit we have, he is very down to earth and just feels like a guy who wants to get on his bike and push the limits, I think he has more about him than Kurtz who does give up more than Bewley or opts to not get involved, people give him a pass because of fighting for the world title but for me, Bewley gives more to Belle Vue and British Speedway. When Doyle hangs up his Kevlars I’d love to see Bewley down here (I know it won’t happen).

I reckon the best pass Monday night was Heat 5, when Kurtz drove off the inside of bend 4 to pass both Pickering and Morris. Not close-your-eyes-wall-of-death bravery, but well-calculated intelligent riding.

Lidsey and Picko i remember how one race they were riding each other super hard inside outside and eventually Picko got it but at one point I thought they were coming off ! Good to watch though!

Bike setup does appear to be more important than riding technique these days, you could argue that bike setup is also a skill but too often it appears to be down to a rider hitting a bit of luck with the setup and then honing in on it.

Getting out of the gate first and staying there around the first two turns was always the priority...

With the acceleration the modern day engines bring, the width of the bends at many tracks, the tyres used, and the slick tracks, it is now even more required...

An example was Anders Rowe on Monday, he rode the inside to keep Kurtz behind and Holder, who was quicker than Kurtz, couldn't get passed as all followed the one inside line that was available...

Get out in front, make yourself as wide as possible entering the turns (at most tracks), and follow (again at most tracks), the one line to use and talent differential can be hugely negated...

Unfortunately the rest of your team (unless Lidsey traps) can only ride the home track and are vulnerable away …. This is how speedway is now all about fast engines and the skill set isn’t required as much 

 

 

It’s so frustration but you make a valid point. Looking at positions 2, 6 & 7 this season, they ride well at home but as you point out poor away. The difference in their collective home and away average is 2.07 and you are correct that this signifies their “one track pony” status. We don’t often agree but there is no getting away with the figures on the one.

To be fair to the Witches, Jenkins had a nasty injury and it wasn’t clear how long he might be out.

And they had to move quickly when he became available before he got snapped up elsewhere and then left us in a vulnerable position at number 7.
