Big surprise Hooky not back 😕

Yes I didn’t even consider him not coming back , for me he was nailed on for next years team. Guess it goes to show you never know what’s coming during team building.

Im assuming the promotion have our full team already in place now so time will tell what our 1-7 looks like, but id like to thank Jacob for all his efforts this year great to watch and top fella hope to see him with a team soon!

Back at Plymouth??

The announcement on his own Facebook page indicates that he hasn't signed elsewhere: "At this stage I'm unsure what's next".

Either the Comets didn't want him back or he didn't fit into their team building jigsaw

Please don’t shoot me for asking this but what average would Craig Cook be on after 2.5% reduction is he below 8?

Don't think so. 8.20 with a 2.5% reduction is 7.995, which would normally round up to 8.00. It might depend though on if there is a more specific calculation. I'm also not sure if there is a specific rule on rounding. To be honest though, I'd be surprised if anyone actually asked the question. Top rider on his day but too many issues

Absolutely gutted by this news - was 100% rider of the year in 2025. Should have been first name on team sheet!!

If this is a Comets decision, it's at risk of alienating fans.

It looked like Workington would be consigned to the history books not all that long ago. I think you'd be mental if you're feeling alienated because Jacob Hook hasn't been signed.

The best way to keep fans coming back is to maintain some known faces of riders that perform well... Hooky had A LOT of supporters and was the best rider in 2025, yet doesn't appear to have been rewarded for his efforts (assuming this is a comets decision obviously).

So, as things stand, the two 2025 comets that have been signed for 2026 are the ones whose averages reduced throughout the season?

Presume this is the management hoping that 2026 will be the year they push on from whatever challenges/issues/injuries they had last year...

Yes, that’s unfortunately the way speedway works sometimes. Hooky was excellent last year but when you do well in the sport, occasionally it can go against you. The promotion obviously believe there’s more room for improvement with the riders they’ve brought back than there is in Jacob (not entirely sure about that)

Tate should definitely improve back to 2024 levels and hopefully last year was a learning curve for Vinnie and he can kick on, he’s never short on effort.

Certainly makes things interesting for Workington, should see some new faces. Have to feel big time for Jacob, hopefully he gets a place next year.
