He is another in an ever growing list of "outsiders" to come in to Speedway and see potential..

Similar to John Postlelthwaite in that he has feet in both GP and UK Speedway camps, (someone who has continued to be very successful in his own post Speedway career)..

Postlethwaite, however, sadly, didn't get listened to with his vision on how to deliver the huge potential the sport has, and neither did those others who also came in from outside the "UK Speedway Bubble" since..

The Speedway Stars "x years ago" section is very telling, almost every week, as they cover off what was being discussed from decades ago, and, almost every week, the same issues that we still discuss today get mentioned as something that "desperately needs sorting"...

Meaning many from inside the sport have spotted the clear and obvious issues, (and it isn't just the moaners on the BSF:D), yet, their view on things obviously fell on deaf ears...

(Or maybe not deaf ears but ears with fingers stuck in them and the person going "LA! LA! LA! I can't hear you!!")...

Coleman reminds me of Postlethwaite in that politically, and emotional intellectually, he is of a much higher level than many within UK Speedway, and, regardless of whether he gets listened to, will personally be a success in whatever he does in business going forwards...

It is a huge opportunity for the sport in the UK to use his capability, contacts and acumen...

The, "quite content with their lot, Hobbyists" may not concur though!!!;)

Let's, as fans of the sport, who can also see its obvious potential, (if only just down now to its low point currently), he can deliver significant progress and growth...

Same as John Berry mid 80's Mike was probably the most successful promoter in the UK as the time sold Ipswich and moved into big chief role with lots of ideas and was gone within a month.

Turkey's don't vote for Christmas!!!

The BIG difference now though, is that rather than one league always having significantly higher numbers, like over the last couple of decades, (ie tier two), if just two teams "move up" then tier one will have the majority of tracks...

The tail no longer will be able to wag the dog...

It hasn't been by chance I would think that most BSP Chairmen have been tier two promoters over the recent past...

Poland's "one other league" (not one country and two leagues), if they get their way, will be a game changer for UK Speedway...

DU riders, who choose the UK, will have a clear decision to make...

And, tier two in particular, will be a very different landscape than what we, and they, have been accustomed to for (probably), far too long, particularly as so much DUing has hugely contributed to the current  paucity of riders..

Colemans vision of greater demarcation between the leagues over here will organically happen if Poland get their way...

And, personally, if I was him, and I had his wider influence, I would definitely be encouraging it to happen. As that would mean the much needed radical change of direction for UK Speedway, would inevitably have to happen, (and I would be able to blame someone else for it!!!)..;)

Every year there are the same comments about things have to take a drastic change next year for the sport to survive in the UK and it never happens. They just bury the heads in the sand and maintain that a two tier league set up is the only way to go.  Look at the lengths they went to in order to get Northampton in this season.

One league, reduce numbers of rider per team and come up with a new heat format. At least give a try.

Two leagues with doubling up and the same teams in town all the time with riders missing isn't working and its clear as day to see.

Read the "Years Ago" section in the Speedway Star each week...

All the issues we have today are often mentioned by some promoter or other, particularly in the ten and twenty years ago sections of it...

As the GP and Poland landscape changed...

Yet, absolute nothing was done...

Hence, here we are, at an inevitable conclusion...

Does anybody really feel that the completely needed radical change, that is well over due, will ever be delivered?...

The Ipswich promotion certainly sees this, the question is can they take the rest in the same direction.

I really believe that if  Coleman can’t make the changes required then the sport is doomed this is very much last chance saloon.

I read the World Final Programme a few years back (my dad attended) for 1953 (maybe 4) and in that the chairman of I think Wembley speedway was calling for unity and commitment to taking tough decisions over the winter to secure our great sport! Plus ca Change, plus c'est la meme chose!

We've been there so many times before with good people; Peter Toogood, Rick Frost even Sandhu to a certain extent just to name a few. The man who had the greatest vision was condemned by fans, riders and Promoters for demanding change if ever any of his proposals ever get published openly you will see he was talking about what Richard Coleman is doing and proposing. That man was deposed in a Thomas Becket event, he wasn't perfect and absolute Marmite but he stuck to his vision and paid dearly for it. Oh yes he was called Terry Russell..

And the common thread through decades of decline has been?...

Self Policing and Self Governance...

Resulting in short term sticking plasters continually being applied to wounds, which were getting more and more dangerously infected as each season passed...

With this “Wroclaw partnership” I do wonder if there will be one or two riders linked with both clubs for 2027

And if what I have heard is true… Ipswich may need to make sure those air fences are extra secure for next season…

Coleman wants to put bums on seats next year. The hope is to bring back those that have drifted away this year due to losing Doyle and Emil in particular, and even add to the numbers we were getting the last few years.

The ambition is certainly there and the two names he mentioned to me personally last week certainly outlines that.

Sometimes you run in to people who have all the talk and then just don’t deliver. We’ve seen and heard many of those over the years! This fella though, doesn’t strike me as one of those.

BUT, the proof of the pudding and all that.
Just have to wait and see if those plans come to fruition.

Lets hope so but sometimes we have to be realistic as the saying goes Rome wasn't built in a day and we have to judge IMHO the new promotion come Winter 2027! (Assuming we get a 2027!)

Indeed. One thing I will say, is if we now have far better contacts and ability to entice new top riders over, then that’s exactly what we should do instead of taking the easier route and throwing a few extra quid at one or two of the small pool or top riders we’ve already got here.

There isn’t that many that you’d call world class riders over here at present, so if we can bring our own in and add to that number rather than pinch someone else’s, then that’s better for the league as a whole. More clubs would get a good number 1, and more world class riders over here to add to what we already have would make the league more attractive and increase the chances of securing a new TV deal.

Going to be worth the entrance fee alone.

Afraid these changes will come to late for many clubs.

Worrying with Sheffield if the Bates step back will someone with enough money come in to save the Tigers.

In the perfect world top league would be eight teams once home and away if nothing else fewer meetings would stem losses and negate the issue of seeing the same teams every other week. Home meetings would need to be at least fortnightly though rather than the current monthly nonsense with some teams.
