mikebv
Well.... The Epiphany has passed... And, I presume, the Three/Four/Five/(Six?) Wise Men, have returned home?.. Any news from them? Worth the long trip?... Did they bother visiting in the end?... Certainly no photos taken of them in the stable/hotel.... Nor any mention of them arriving in the various Gospels of Social Media.. I have just opened up the Bible of GB Speedway, at page one, and all it tells me is... "Lo, and so it did pass, Saint Jack Holder leadeth the way in the Land of the Convicted Ones, at the ends of the Earth"... I know integrity is something that's lacking from the BSPA, but I do believe them when they say "at least 5 clubs" - Ipswich probably tentatively agreed to run if they can't find another team to take their place. That's my assumption anyway.
WookieboyDon
The meeting only happened yesterday and yet so many are complaining that no information has been released yet. Unfortunately we live in an age where you can find out anything on your phone within seconds and people now think that applies to everything in life. FFS, nobody has any patience anymore. Given how important the meeting was it's going to take a little while to collate everything together. When they want you to know what happened, then you'll find out.

Given that there's a real danger the current Premiership champions might not come to the tapes next year I think people are right to be impatient. Any business worth its salt would have had a holding statement ready at least by now.

I know how it feels for your team not to come to tapes so spare me that line... Edited January 7 by WookieboyDon

Sorry Wookieboy Don , I strongly disagree. In view of the parlous state of UK speedway, an interim statement should have been issued to all media channels . If nothing else to confirm that the meeting has at least taken place yesterday ! Sadly this poor PR typifies the running of the sport in the UK nowadays. A publicity opportunity lost. 5

British Speedway is currently in a better place for '26 than it looked a few weeks back. We know there will be a Premiership, we already have riders confirmed. We know there will be a Championship, with some teams having already announced their full line-ups. IMO 'parlous' is going too far. Too may on here seem to feel they have a right to know information immediately, and are still being negative even though their teams will actually be racing in '26. It comes across as incredibly ungrateful, this from a person that hasn't watched his team compete competitively for 20 years. I'd love to be able to regularly watch my team. There should have been soundbites from Promoters leading up to the meeting, putting forward, in a positive way, what they would like to see from the AGM... Giving it some importance and resonance... And then. On the day. Photos taken of all there and shared via all SM outlets, including one as a collective all together... Then, last evening, a statement (again positive), should have been put out, even if it was only to acknowledge the meeting took place, a generic update as to what's agreed, and that a further statement with detail is forthcoming in the next "x" hours.... Do they actually have a PR person? Edit. Did the meeting actually take place? Which, as we don't know, probably answers my question re any PR person.... old bob at herne bay
Similarly Wookieboy Don as you can probably guess, my team closed down way back when and I have been a roaming supporter of various clubs around London and the Sout East clubs until my health and patience and lack of clubs enforced my retirement. The last vestiges of any competitive speedway in the SE now appear to have been snuffed out at Kent "Eagles". I remain very critical of the BSPL who seem to operate their businesses as almost a secret society, unable or unwilling at EVERY opportunity to use the power of the media to publicise the sport. A few more press releases would at least get out the message that there is speedway still in existence in the UK.

And that is the frustration many fans feel... So many "basic things" simply don't get done... An AGM is obviously for "The Shareholders", however, being, in particular, a team sport where Promoters require an emotional investment from "The Stakeholders", then their communication out to these "Stakeholders" is vital, as, by not communicating to them could give the impression they are irrelevant to you and your business... Very, very, basic business practice..

The BSPA/L meetings for several years have each been the most important in the modern history of the sport ... we've even had promises of transparency ... the regular (die-hard) fans have helped to keep the Prem plodding along, but still they are treated like third class passengers on the Titanic*. * "Titanic Sinks Tonight" is an amazing programme based entirely on witness statements and interviews, with analysis by historians and psychologists. A chastening look at human behaviour in genuine life-or-death situations.
