He then asked if there if a replay was available (yes he should have asked before announcing but hindsight is a wonderful thing) & was told there was so he went along to the commentary box - at NO point was Greg in contact with the referee or the refs box. While the referee was away the 3rd bend footage was sent via messenger to the box, Greg then came into the box to ask what was happening & was told the referee was viewing the BanditsTV footage, at which point the referee returned to the box. He was about to stick with his initial decision as the BanditsTV footage was inconclusive however when he was shown the clip from the 3rd bend clearly showing Cookie made contact with Reid he then changed his decision. At no point was Greg involved in influencing the referee’s decision, the change was made purely on him seeing the 3rd bend footage. Hope this helps Clears Greg’s involvement but sets dangerous precedent if the ref can accept phone messenger messages regarding track incidents .very strange.IMO

Could have been a nasty one for Reid and if it shows he wasn’t at fault the correct decision is made . In football the decision on field is made and then if looked at from different angles it can be looked at and reversed . Marksman
I’m sure the SCB/track regulations prohibit filming without prior accreditation from the BSPL or Promoter. Some tracks allow filming for personal use only. To then use this type of footage probably filmed at 60fps on a mobile, is an absolute head loss by Dishington.
Woke23
Cookie stuck to his racing line, enters the bend first, and battye tries to round him, laying his bike down in the process. Whole spot is a rubbish show. Greg is as unprofessional as they come and shouldn't be any where near a microphone the clown. But hey, s**t happens, on to the next one.

Same difference.
allthegearbutnaeidea
So what we’re saying is the Comics would have been in the semis if it wasn’t for Willie Dishington and Greg Blair? Got it

In fairness.... Dave does have an iPhone 17.... With "ultra zoom"..... Considering it is UK Speedway I am quite impressed that phone footage was used ... I see the sport more in line to use a "sketch artist" like they use in Crown Courts for the TV News... "Give us half and hour and I will have it drawn up. What colour was Cookie again?"...

H20
This whole incident was how not to run a sport. I was watching the stream and the angle definately backed the referee's original call and it should have stayed that way. The way it unfolded was embarassing to say the least, even the phone footage made it a 50 50 call as you could say Cook was leading and Battye should not have gone for a pass that was not on which to me was what Jackobson did trying to go around Battye on that same turn. It's a big manouve to try and pass around the outside at Berwick and pull it off that high. Greg should still have been no where near the box to be in a position to show the referee anything but as for Willie to actually watch it well I still can not belive he did never mind then change his already made announcement. Was not going to change the meeting much as Berwick were fantastic out of the gate espesially prior to ht9 but was still wrong.

SPEEDY69
I haven't seen any of the meeting, just reading comments on here but I'm not particularly a fan of video replays. Plenty of contact is made in the sport but much of this is not enough to create a fall but unfortunately I think replays encourage riders to do exactly that as they know they'll get back in the re-run. I've seen it so many times, from Harris in a British Final to Nicki P & Hans A in GPs. Those who choose to stay on, as they should, can feel aggrieved but to fall on purpose risks injury to self and others. There shouldn't need to be a fall for exclusions to occur. As I said, this is not about this particular incident as I haven't seen it.

Get barely brushed & slide off, so opposition gets excluded. Haven't seen the Cook & Battye incident, so can't comment on if I agree with decision, but surely a ref shouldn't announce a decision & then afterwards watch a replay to change his mind, especially an unofficial one.
