Foxes vs Witches, Thursday 30th April

Going by the Foxhall result it should be tight

Expecting a much needed home win to support the politically correct narrative :D

Kyle Howarth in for NKI

Strange call running a guest for their opening night....

I suppose it does get "newbies" used to it "early doors"...:D

I would have thought RR would have been the choice given four of their riders would get more track time, and money....

Let's hope Kyle doesn't become the match winner, as he would become the Northampton fans' first hero!!!:D....

Despite all the hype about the size, e.g. Spedeworth says their track is 396 metres, it turns out the track is actually 310 metres!  I did a rough measure on GoogleMaps, and it does indeed look much closer to 300ish than any high 300 number.

Not sure there's much by way of banking, so the wide line will need some grip ...

NKI another rider that raced last night but won't be Thursday,, Paco Sunday but not Monday

It's almost like some riders don't take UK Speedway seriously....

Still...

Just as long as they can "bob over" now and again, as and when they can, and honour us with their presence, we will welcome them back with open arms, and it all will be OK.... ;)

Have the Northampton Promoters done a "Welcome to UK Speedway" pack for the first time visitors?..:D

I think Dean summed it up the best...

"Going through the motions".....

Sadly, I would say he is spot on...

Best of Luck to Northampton, I will be there at least once this season, hopefully many others will do the same...

British Speedway is a bit like a grenade waiting to go off. Years ago some pleb pulled out the pin and been wondering around with it in his hand not sure what to do with it. Unfortunately, sooner or later he'll drop it and that will be the end of British Speedway as we know it.

So roughly the same size as the old Foxhall track before the changes. Not quite the juggernaut everyone was describing 😂

Any local fans that attended between 1954 & 1967 will be au fait with guests as they were utilised long before Brafield opened the first time. Nobody seemed to bother back then though I did dig up an old correspondence to the old Speedway Star & News from Ted Valentine in Manchester….

“Having taken my young grandson to the speedway recently I just want to comment on the overuse of guest riders. It makes a mockery of the sport and takes away any sense of jeopardy and meaning for an old timer like me. Luckily young Mike Bernard Valentine loves it and I very much doubt that 50 years from now he’ll have such concerns with our sport that I can only see it going from strength to strength following the announcement of the forthcoming Shawcross report.”

I wonder what Mike is up to now.

1969 was my first meeting...

And as an eight year old in 1976, I learnt my very first swear words...

"Peter Collins is riding in Germany tomorrow in a Long track meeting so tonight we have Larry Ross replacing PC, let's give Larry a big Aces welcome"...

Sitting in E Block I heard a unison of "For F***s Sake!" from the many "old men and women" sat around me...:D...

You had obviously paid your money to get in by then, unlike today where you know well in advance that the "star turn" on the bill, is being replaced by an "understudy"...

(Zero disrespect to Larry, who became another favourite of mine...

When maybe a few hundred proclaimed "For F***s Sake!", in those days their money was already in the till...

Nowadays, when a few hundred proclaim "For F***s Sake" two days out, they haven't laid out any money, and may decide not to...

What you could get away in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and even the 90's, you simply cannot anymore due to the internet...

As Woolworths, Dixons, Toys R Us, Wimpy, Ratners, Debenhams, Burtons, Top Shop, and a myriad of other entities that didn't adapt and evolve, can testify to...

My daughter has not long returned from her hols in California . Part of her trip was going to see the LA Lakers but mainly LeBron James . Unfortunately for her he got injured playing the night before. I think her words when she found out he wasn’t playing were the same as the ones you first learned. Nowt to do with speedway I know but life is full of disappointments eh. The state of speedway being one .
