Foxes vs Lions PL R1 21/05/2026 19:30

Recommended Posts

I arrived at the (half mile, or thereabouts) traffic queue at 6:45. They opened up the overflow car park just as I actually entered the stadium gates.

I was directed to the overflow, and was the third car in there. Rather fortunately this allowed me fast exit after the meeting.

I stayed behind talking to some N'hampton fans (main topic - how quickly can we get rid of Klindt) and given it all decants onto one 'B' Road I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the car park cleared.

Not sticking up for them, but was it a case of meeting start time 7.30 and first race 7.45, as some other tracks are

No just 7:30 - look at football kicks off at the advertised time and the introduction of players happens prior to this.

Same as Ipswich, start time states 7.30 but that's the start of the meeting, ie riders announced, first race is always 7.45.

Look at football kicks off at the advertised time and the introduction of players happens prior to this. Speedway just appears an amateur sport in comparison to others

But....

It is an amateur sport, at least off track...

The promoters are not in the entertainment business, they are not marketeers, and definitely not in it "for the money"....

They do their best given their limited capabilities to just "provide some Speedway"....

Getting "professionals" in costs money, which means it won't happen..

People have too high an expectation of what the majority of promoters can deliver...

You only have to see how they run the sport to know they don't have the required skill set to deliver what some fans see as "basic"....

They do their best, and put their money in, and without them there wouldn't be any start time to moan about....

Problem is the fixtures on British speedway site states tapes up time for Ipswich as 730, but its always been first race at 7.45.

Last night's meeting at Northampton started at exactly 7.30.  The show began with a parade of competing riders, introductions and the like.  This over, racing commenced with the first heat going to the tapes at 7.45.    Northampton is currently the best-attended speedway in Britain, so why shouldn't they show off their wares with a parade, etc?  They advertise starting at 7.30, that's what they did .......

Are you really suggesting promoters cannot tell the time?

How can some clubs manage it?

It comes down to the will of the promotion.

There are always people late at football matches, because you see the empty seats gradually filling (and at the start of the second half too). Although, to be fair, a couple of Prem matches were delayed this season because of problems on the roads, which prevented access to the stadium. Plus, speedway is nothing to do with football - or any other sport.

It's British speedway tradition for the parade to be part of the meeting, i.e. Ipswich speedway has always advertised the start time as the time of the parade, i.e. 7:30pm and first race at 7:45pm.  I really don't see what the problem is - in the list of British speedway's problems, this must be rate in the bottom half a percent.

I would imagine this is actually the refs call not the CEO of the premiership. The referee on arrival is (i believe) responsible for the control and running of the meeting are they not?

The ref will just follow local protocol. If the CoC says we start at 7:30 with a parade the ref will just say OK.

The ref merely controls the match not the clubs procedures.

At Football though it'll generally be the Police that delay a start due to crowd safety... you've not got Sir John Ratcliffe faffing about at the only 2 turnstiles open at Old Trafford scratching around in his pockets for some pound coins due to a lack of change 😂

Start time should be start time imo. If Ippo want to have their parade at 7:30 great! Just advertise the start time as 7:45, you shouldn't really have different tracks doing different things.

If Ippo cancel their parade due to weather heading in (when that used to happen) do they start at 7:30 or 7:45?

How are the crowds holding up ? if they end up averaging 1,200 - 1,500 per match would be huge result they just need to get someone in for Klindt and Batch but as ever who is there out there who's any better and will come and within budget ?

Most people that are late to Football matches is because they leave the pub with just five minutes to KO!!

Agree its really scraping the barrel of finding something to moan about - I think every speedway match i have attended has had a parade of the riders first unless the prospect of rain has mean't it's been cancelled. Nowadays football matches often end until just before 5pm - in the old days they were done and dusted by 4.45 with perhaps no more than 1-2 minutes extra.

I went to Thursday nights meeting with my son and I would estimate the attendance at around 2,000.

There were quite a few Leicester fans there but we were pleased to see a large Northampton support. The noise and enthusiasm of the home fans on gaining their first win was impressive and infectious!

We were very impressed with the facilities and the general organisation at the stadium.

After many years in the Speedway wilderness, I have finally found a local team that I can support.

We can’t wait for the next meeting.

At last, is there a chink of light for the future of our great sport🤞🤞

That’s a very positive post! The sport as a whole needs people you and your son. You say you have been away from the sport but it’s still in great shape (🤭) so onwards and upwards as they say.
