My god is it any wonder that no one (other than the Fords) can make a quid out of the sport how are you expected to hold onto a fan base with a month and half between home match's.

Every meeting will be like opening nite at this rate 😜

No doubt this would've been on, in the 80s, but not these days.

"Can you come to play badminton/marbles/tiddlywinks this week?" "What night?" "Thursday." "Oh OK yeah, i used to have speedway that night but it's rarely on these days so I might as well."

In the 70's I did not go to the cubs/scouts due to Friday nite being worky speedway night, if it was today I would be able to go both and only miss a couple of scout nites 😜

Which is why call offs are so frequent...

Fixture pile up pressure used to focus the mind on getting meetings on, due to often running weekly..

Now you still have plenty of Mondays and Thursdays left to run those postponed meetings..

Mondays and Thursdays later in the season which, (with a certain irony as the clock is suddenly ticking to compete the season), often get run in very ropey conditions!!!

So much of what all this self policing does is show how important an independent governing body or person would be, as if they decreed, (as they would), "one point each, move on", so many more meetings would take place...

Also, so many more riders wouldn't be allowed, (without proper sanction), to duck out of UK meetings whilst still riding elsewhere, and domestic meetings wouldn't be allowed to be planned in against other meetings elsewhere, when you 100% know riders will be missing...

Hence, we will never have an independent body or person in charge..

Whilst I’m all for keeping things moving like the one point each with no re-arranged fixture (as with cricket), it’s difficult to see that approach working with speedway. When a cricket match is wiped out it doesn’t affect players pay. With speedway riders being paid for the points they score (from money coming through the turnstiles, although what percentage of that is relied upon I don’t know), are they going to take a hit? Would promoters be prepared to put riders on some sort of minimum guarantee for such circumstances?

Sounds like good incentive for riders to tackle wet conditions rather than pack the bikes up as soon as there is a dark cloud in the sky

The pressure would come from the riders...

No ride, no pay....

They would very quickly get peed off riding for promoters who cannot fix pit gates, or cannot get broken generators working, or have floods in their car parks, or floods on one bend of their track, or call off meetings following weather forecasts several days out, or (fill your own personal favourite one in here)...
