crescent girl
It’s been a while but speedway’s back with a bang in the Borders this Saturday. Typically dreich spring weather means it will be 49 days since the last high-octane racing action at Shielfield Park. But who better to relaunch the season than Glasgow Tigers, a team packed with track specialists against a Bandits side hoping to welcome back Peter Kildemand to the fold after injury and handing a debut to Jordan Jenkins. At 43, Chris “Bomber” Harris shows no sign of slowing down and recently qualified for the World Championship Challenge while Berwick-born-and-based Leon Flint, the ultra-exciting Kyle Howarth and Danish newcomer Kevin Juhl Pedersen all know their way around Britain’s paciest racetrack. But in Nick Morris the Bandits also have an all-out racer in fine form, guesting for a number of clubs and riding with Premiership Leicester during the Bandits’ hiatus, while Victor Palovaara was just two points away from joining Harris in the GP Challenge. Berwick already have an eight-point victory under their belts over their noisy neighbours, in the BSN Series. That went right down to the wire and there’s no reason to think Saturday night will be any different. As always accompanied under-16s go free so make a family night of it at Shielfield Park where there are 1,400 seats in the covered grandstand, terracing and grass banking viewing areas which allow you to get up close and personal to the action. There’s also two licensed bars and a takeaway hot food restaurant. Gates open at 6pm, first race is at 7pm. Buy your tickets online from berwickspeedway.com/tickets or pay cash on the night. Oh, and parking's free.

Hopefully it is a similar spectacle to last years match in the league which was a really good contest.
Neila
I'm hearing due to lack of interest the tiggers fans bus is cancelled 😲 always used to bring a bus full of fans to most tracks in the north, sign of the times 🤔 maybe having streaming parties rather than going to the track these days Edited Wednesday at 07:56 AM by Neila Spelling

We used to get families on the coach but numbers have dwindled dramatically over last few years and costs increased. I always went on supporters bus but at approximately £80 per trip inclusive of food , entrance etc. I will be watching the stream this time round, too expensive when on a pension.

Yes I said to a friend in Glasgow the other week I thought the cost of the bus would put people off travelling, now it's fans travelling by car at a cheaper cost, but that depends on if people are willing to drive a couple of hours. The bus to worky next week is on the edge of not happening I believe

It's also barely advertised.

Is it though? Average per mile cost to run a car, according to Google, is 49p per mile, so for a 200 mile round trip, that's just shy of £100. How much was the coach? Must be measured using a Ferrari 🤣 For me, a full tank costs £75. That goes 500 miles. Return trip is exactly 200 miles - £30. £10 cheaper, door to door, I'm the DJ, and it's much quicker. The 49p per mile probably includes a very small percentage of Tax, Insurance and maintenance on top of just fuel costs.

Exactly. Fuel isn't the only cost: "Driving a petrol car in the UK costs roughly 15p to 20p per mile for fuel alone, depending on your vehicle's efficiency. However, the total running cost (including tax, maintenance, insurance, and depreciation) averages about 49p per mile. Do any of the Social Media outlets advertise car sharing?.... That might encourage more to go and it shares the costs... Four in a car with three passengers giving the driver £20 each may get a few more away fans there.. Sixty quid should pay for the fuel there and back and get the driver in the meeting for nothing...
nagy1
The Scotland game being on at 02:00 on Sunday may have a part to play in it too. It’s a shame the bus isn’t going. Still expect fairly healthy crowd of Tigers there on Saturday. Hopefully a better performance than last time.
