SJA Posted July 31 Report Share Posted July 31 I thought it was a decent meeting last night on a well prepared track considering the drought like conditions. Some good passing by both teams. But I thought the presentation of the medals was shambolic and unprofessional. Far to many people on the centre green who appeared to have nothing to do with the actual professional. I have seen better from my Grandsons under 8 football team. For a club that generally runs a meeting at a good pace I was surprised that the presentation of the trophy at the end of a second leg appeared as a surprise to the Club. It was all very hidden behind masses of hangers on and clutter. Let’s face it, the sport in UK can’t afford to pay these guys a full time wage and all too many don’t have a back up income, but they still expect to be paid enough to live off for what is just a part time job. OK Lawson doesn’t appear to be sociable but he does his job well and I’d guess at a fair rather than excessive rate which is why he supplements his income outside the sport. Thats interesting as all the young riders who have ridden for both Lynn teams over the past couple of seasons aren't like that at all, they work hard to succeed at speedway and some have 'normal' jobs too. They are approachable and make an effort with their fans both at the track and on social media, and are grateful for the opportunities they have while knowing they have plenty to learn and being humble. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
dontforgetthefueltapsbruv Posted July 31 Report Share Posted July 31 Congrats to Leicester - as the saying goes "you can only beat what is put in front of you" The fact than the aggregate difference was only 10 despite 2 hugely contrasting performances from what turned out to be the key man on each side is quite staggering Huge well done to Drew with 25 paid 26 from 12 rides who was superb. Undoubtedly his best performances of his career Conversely it was so very sad to see Tom limp to 7 paid 8 from 8 with those 7 third places coming from finishing ahead of 3 fallers, 2 team mates, a race retirement and a career retirement The manber of his performances was more worrying than the scores themselves It seems to me that Tom is suffering psychologically - he was leading or in a position to challenge in a good number of the heats and looked to dip out at the vital point Speedway just like most top level sport is small margins whether it be machinery or between the ears Perhaps almost a bigger disappointment for me was Lawson not on the truck and already changed This was the top leagues Cup Final. The presentations are as much as the racing the 'kodak moments' (showing my age 😁) the sport can use to promote itself and we have one the teams top riders missing the presentation and then belatedly pulling a t-shirt over his civvies for a picture Like it or not ultra professionalism on the media side is vital if we are to drag the sport back into the spotlight and secure sponsorship and coverage 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The kind of rider that the sport's success and development relied on during the 60's, 70's and 80's... Then from circa the 90's onwards, so many more riders became "Full time Professionals".. In a sport that couldn't afford them to be... Which also meant many left the sport given they couldn't make it pay to the level they wanted.... Leaving what we have now, a lack of riders, particularly for the "engine room" of teams... TTT Posted July 31 Author Report Share Posted July 31 Well done to the Lions, Rated them before a wheel was turned this season. Stewart Dickson is a likeable TM too so if we were going to lose to anyone then at least it was to Leicester. Richard Lawson is a moody bloke but he scores points to a point where he's a reliable engine room scorer so it's difficult to cut ties with him and find someone who is just as consistent as he is. Scotty Nicholls pulling no punches in his interview and that's the type of people I have respect for in all forms of life, Like I said when we got battered at Belle Vue, Tom Brennan needed help and Doyley should've have been back in, No ifs and no buts about it.
