What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
JamesB replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I agree with you 100%. If there is to be one league then it has to be based on and only use riders that are available on whatever nights are mandated as race nights. I don’t like the idea of one league but if that is the only solution then at least ensure it has credibility. -

I think one big league is absolutely inevitable (unfortunately imo) However if/when it happens it has to just be what it is from what's available - no making up rules like letting some riders ride in home meetings only etc Something like that is more ridiculous than a 5 team league -

thanks @arnieg I couldn't find it on there for the life of me! Some new names on me there and a surname or two that are very familiar - I did see that Rory's lad won one of the younger age groups -
Such a natural talent on a bike as well.

What momentum does he need? Had a full season at Berwick bar the opening 2 / 3 meetings and dropped a point off his average. He’s not a kid anymore. -
I seem to recall the referee made an enemy of everyone that night. I think that was the third questionable call already in the meeting.

Love hearing Barker and Lambert getting interviewed saying how it is

I don't see that as cooperation but more capitulation and manipulation -
TBF he tried when Buster agreed to buy Ipswich and take them up to the top flight when the top division were desperate for another team. As we know, Buster then backed out of that deal weeks later when it was too late for Ipswich to remain in the Championship..

If his heart is not in it he has every right to move on from it . The hours, effort and hard work, not to mention expense reserves him that right, 100%. Good luck to him and his family. A speedway family. Used to love watching his dad flying round The Shay alongside KC and Doug Wyer.

Agree but we’d have been selling ourselves short averages wise. I think they’ll be looking at a 3.40ish rider

Absolutely, I'd like to think that the councillors on Rugby Council will be all over this slight of hand from Brandon Estates, completely ignoring the return of Stock Car racing and using the Osborne method of skullduggery. Remember though that "free gear" is now in charge, and Rugby Council’s planning department recommended the previous scheme.

It’s not utter fantasy, it just needs cooperation on all sides but that there is the problem, there is no cooperation it’s all self interest -

It is utter fantasy that Belle Vue could've joined one big league and named Bewley or Kurtz Even with a ludicrous situation of them turning up for any weekend away fixture without them being "accomodated" what's the point The home teams uppirters don't see them - ripped off. Belle Vue have to race without them- ripped off Take into account they would be on 12 points averages in a team total needing to be not much above 30 and it means Belle Vues travelling team would likely be 7x 4 pointers One big league would have to exclude (whether by design or reality) the top stars and indeed ALL those in Poland (2027 will mean no choice anyway) So also take out Lidsey, Brennan,Ellis, Cook, Blordorn etc etc Teams built to 30 with 3/4 NDL standard -
I don’t get the people that seem to think Chris is obligated to run Ipswich speedway, he’s done more than enough and is well within his rights to move it on, from a financial perspective he’s probably wishing he did it a couple of years ago.

Add the fact that next years budget is down £95k before a wheel is turned due to the fact that there is no tv money and a brand new air fence to purchase. less fixtures and less variety may lead to smaller crowds will the sponsors put in as much money with no tv coverage? Who knows but as this is the Louis only income why would you gamble everything you have built up in a 5 team league which is doomed. I wouldn’t risk my house on it

Excellent letter from Brian Buck in the latest edition. It nicely encapsulates the disgraceful behaviour of Councils and Developers across the country - and not just with speedway stadia!
-
It's also pretty much identical to the ruse they pulled-off with the Abbey.

Nothing is more precious and valuable than time and family - particularly when where you have been working couldn't give 2 sh!ts if you were there or not At 54 I've recently exited a job after 36 years and if I have any say in it have no plans to work again and if I do it will be on terms that suit me -
2026 Premiership is Go! - At least 5 teams
JamesHarris replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It could be done with 5 teams but there's going to be a lot of repetitive fixtures and will the fans get fed up with it? They could probably throw in a multi leg 4TT and even a pairs competition over 5 legs to add in a bit of variety. Even a Grand Prix style competition for the riders championship. What they surely can't do is keep the play offs. It would take all credibility out of a league that doesn't have much of it as things stand anyway. -
Surprised would have done a job.
-
It's remarkably similar to the Studley Grange stunt they're attempting

He managed to get above 5 at reserve for Glasgow last year. It did drop when he was I the main body but he has shown he can score well, he needs to get his confidence up a bit because he can score well when he has some momentum.
