  1. Any Speedway rider will tell you they NEVER prefer holes to be "filled in". They would rather see them and be aware of them, good riders can ride through them anyway. Covering them over just makes the situatuin worse as the danger (the hole) is hidden and wet replacement shale that can't be tyre packed in 10 minutes makes a problem even worse! Easy to stand there and pontificate rubbish....reality is very different

  2. There's a trophy to be potentially won, a stronger team no doubt stands a chance of making the final and going on to win. Or go down the Newcastle route and put together a weak team and expect miracles. I know which team build I prefer

  4. It would be nice to know.. and you have a valid answer above.. quite a few make a full time living out of Speedway however I am hearing that more and more riders now are taking second jobs in the UK... so the honest answer from me is I dont know but I know a few who have very supportive families who pump in thousands to keep the dream alive... they call themselves full time Speedway riders but if it wasn't for the families they could never earn enough to eat let alone run two bikes... 5. If it's on Eurosport, about 15 minutes after the scheduled start time should be early enough.

  6. The reason the dirt gets scraped off is because the riders wanted it done, Danny King had no complaints, yes their were issues with the track but we are in the midst of a prolonged spell of extreme heat heat which obviously didn't help. Undoubtedly the track breaking up and dust issues played into Poole hands as they have been practicing on a similar surface. On a plus note just shows how far we've progressed as a club in a couple of seasons when Poole are celebrating as though they've beaten Glasgow, playoffs are priority now just qualifying for them is a positive for us,who knows we may even ruffle a few more feathers.

  7. And at least Phillips has vowed to sort it for next Tuesday rather than leaving it for years.

  10. Does anybody else think this ticketing is a farce. It seems Cardiff is not for everyone just for the tech savvy. Do they not know speedway's demmagraphic..Anyway downloaded the app but cannot find the tickets anywhere in my see tickets account even clicking the orders button. Any ideas anyone ? Been to all GP's in Cardiff but this may be my last if the tickets are not easier to access, they even have the nerve to charge a booking fee when its you doing all the work.

  11. I really can't wrap my head around all this hate fir Max... he's a brilliant trier and scored well for us from second string and sometimes heatleader positions...? I know we had a really bad team, but still... he's A LOT better than Connor Coles certainly...

  12. With lots of clubs struggling to find replacement riders from abroad to cover injuries, it would make sense to lower the points limit & use more of the top NL riders, but the Promotors don't often seem the think too far ahead, as shown by binning the RS system after one season.

  13. Such a character and funny too. Need more of his like now, but he did come from a different simpler era ( like me) . We ( Eastbourne) voted him the all time ultimate Eagle a few years ago, bear in mind that included Nicki P, Martin Dugard, Gordon Kennet, Mark Loram, Kelly Moran etc etc , he was the all time highest points scorer for Eastie but shows the high regard he was held as a rider and perhaps more so a character.

  16. Sedgemen riding at the much more difficult 5 as opposed to 3 last time. He looked fast in his first ride behind Batchelor, passed by Ruml in his next, got a 5-1 with Brennan in his next then last in tough 13 and 15. He looks a different/more determined rider now to a few years ago, was just a tough night last night as Batchelor and Nicholls were both good.

  21. Missed only chance of seeing Ken Le Breton at Bristol in 1950 when he turned up late for what he thought was a second half booking only to find that he was in the main meeting as a "Star Of Tomorrow and had been replaced by Tom Oakley who happened to be there with his brother Bob. The other Stars were Fred Brand, Tommy Miller, Alan Hunt, Derek Close, Ken Middleditch and Jack Summers.

  22. Don't think our riders i.e. Allen, Aarnio and Palin deliberately got injured, bit of a poor comment really.

  25. Usually big queues at all the entrances! Every week and longer queues in the holidays with all the holiday makers and depending on the standard of the opposition.

  26. That’s given me a great idea Arnie. Let’s start flogging tickets for the Oceanic round (any venue in that part of the world will do) and then (with a few weeks to spare) move it to Vojens for a November staging!

  29. Fair play it certainly got the crowd going. In history for this action Bill Bridgett as Wolves Promoter would have paid Andy Smith £50 for his actions and invited him to the next Open Meeting at Monmore. It was called Speedway Promoting back then!

  31. But come the play-offs Plymouth's choices will be very limited, because of the no guests from teams in play-offs rule [12.4.2.e]

  32. One of those meetings where the scoreline doesn't tell the whole story. Some decent racing , Dillon Ruml in heat 6 was worth the admission on its own. Fairplay also to Jamie Courtney and his team, hottest day on record and no clouds of dust.

  33. Out of 14 riders, 4 are guests and one is called Reidar Replacement, or something. Reidar Replacement and all 4 guests outscored the top-scoring Brummies contracted rider. And I'll qualify that by saying that it took Sedgmen 5 rides to get his 4+1 as opposed to Castagna who achieved it in 4 rides. That, folks, is a major reason why the Brummies are struggling to draw in the fans, I'd say. Who are the fans supposed to "latch onto" and support? Their "own" rider who struggles to pick up points or someone else's riders who are coming to the team's rescue? Not a good situation to be in. Not that you can do much about the guest for Shanes, but the "Sign Vissing and get a guest for the season" situation is one of the team managers own creation. And very lamentable it is too. Try explaining that one to a newcomer to the sport. And as for the guest for Auty, I can only guess that the guest rider is the easy option compared to signing a new rider and re-declaring the team. How long has it been now? It's almost like the Brummies are too comfortable fielding guest riders that they become an integral part of team planning. Well, I'm sorry, but I don't think that's what the fans want.

  34. Erm, well a few things: 1. Thanks for the shout out whoever idea it is, that was funny. Even if it prob a pisstake, I'll take it! lol. 2. Was never expecting a win, I thought if we keep it close would have done well 3. When they changed the track Ben Barker never won a race. It fell into our hands more. So whoevers idea that was, thanks! Oh and well done to Nathan Ablitt, looks really confident on the bike now

  35. Between 98 and 2009 I regularly used to come home saying best meeting ever. Then the following week was even better. The standard of second strings and reserves was much higher then not forgetting more genuine number ones. Just showed last night the track can produce good racing with better riders

  37. Doyle is a given, you then go with the rider in form to partner him which at the moment is Batch. It was an obvious and sensible choice.

  38. I think everyone knows you thought Hawkins cocked up pre meeting by choosing Batch over King.

  39. Doyle may of won the races but Batchelor definitely won that meeting for the Witches, as he was mostly just left to fend everyone off himself .

  40. Get to the NSS around an hour before the start to get a parking place on the street... Then use the excellent Burger Van outside the stadium on the same street.. Watch the bikes getting warmed up for a while then go in.. Usually get in about 10 mins before start time as always order tickets on line.. Liam Neeson to play me if a movie gets made of my night out at the Speedway escapades...

  41. Let's hope that the rumoured relaxation of the "rules" in Poland comes to pass next year. Then maybe earning mega bucks there and riding in Britain won't be mutually exclusive.

  43. I am afraid if there isn't enough money in the club to reimburse its customers then Rob Grant will need to get the wallet out and pay, he was happy to take the fans money over the winter when offering a season full of racing so should take the responsibility now Newcastle cant complete the season.

  44. There didn't seem to be any reason in particular other than no-one could believe Troy Batchelor scored 13 points!
