  1. Probably because he chose gate 2 in the semi, and Madsen thought it better to get to the inside of him. I would have done the same. Then I would have crashed into the pit gate, because I can’t ride a speedway bike.

  5. I don't get what people's problem is with capacity at the NSS? What is the capacity at Vojens? Prague? Malilla? Torun? Gorzow? Wroclaw? Yes the NSS ain't Cardiff but neither are any of the others I have listed. I would say the NSS (with it's temporary stand) compares perfectly with those others

  7. As bizarre as this sounds the only realistic threat to zmarzlik title hopes I believe will come tonight from Dan bewley, if bewley were to win tonight and zmarzlik not make the semi (unlikely)but the momentum would swing in Dan’s favour and he would just ride that wave of momentum with no pressure where zmarzlik would feel that pressure knowing he has to perform to keep dan at bay, I think zmarzlik has enough to see it through but would be a interesting end to the series were tonight go the way of bewley

  8. And Councillor's as part of their remit have to legally get the best return on any sales of assets for their communities.. That doesnt just cover financially but takes into consideration other criteria as for example, environmental issues and the well being of their constituents from their decision.. I would think that in this case given so few constituents would benefit then financial considerations were the No1 influence... Especially given the budget cutting that will inevitably take place over the next few years from Westminster.. It does show just what a magnificent achievement Messrs Gordon and Morton did in getting the NSS built with whole hearted support from many in the local council... Not sure in today economic climate that the NSS would have been Green lit to be honest...

  9. 100% Watching WTC at Vojens with a few hundred there was awful TV Seeing Cardiff barely 35% full is not good TV Imagine BV with extra capacity up to about 11k FULL to the Brim and comments like (we could have filled the place 3 x over)...it's just a completely different and entirely positive perception that encourages sponsors in, encourages stay aways to think about going back and encourages newcomers about a sport that even if it's for a day "looks vibrant" Marketing is 99% bullcrap and 1% fact....anyway

  14. He would join a rather elite club if he does: working back in time... Artem Laguta 2021 Bartosz Zmarlik 2021 Jason Doyle 2016 Niki Pedersen 2006-07 Jason Crump 2006 If Dan does win tonight we can look forward to Malilla to see if he can match the record holder, Tony Rikardsson, who notched up a magnificent 4 in a row in 2005. Tony actually posted 5 out 6 that year and 6 out of 9. Come on Dan, I'm going to Torun - 5 in a row and the World crown. I love to be able to say "I was there" for that.

  19. Having spent 30 plus years attending meetings at Cowley and my Dad having gone to the very first meeting back in 1949 (although they did run meetings prior to the war) it pleases me that Oxford has again risen from the depths and I wish those all involved all the very best and congratulations on what is probably the best story to come out of speedway this year.

  20. Just like a "jumpers down for goalposts" kick around... On a hired 4G pitch... Coaches and physios doing the lines and reffing.. Just 32 footballers all (spookily) in the same place at the same time... What are the chances of that?

  22. Provided they could demonstrate that they had made a procedurally correct decision they ought to be fine. Basically, it was £400,000 plus jobs created and ancillary commercial activity vs. Speedway for a handful of Monarchs fans and a lower financial return, so you can see why they came to the decision they did. All this talk of brown envelopes comes across as childish and petulant and it is little wonder the views of speedway fans are given little weight if that is the best we can do.

  25. Since the last GP, it has been mentioned several times how nice it is to see three British riders in the Top 8, and it would be nice to see them stay there. Taking mid-September as a good time (usually around the time of the World Final), let's look at how many times that has happened in the final standings. For a start, it hasn't happened since 1993! You will also notice that there was a lengthy period between 1956 and 1975 where we couldn't manage three in the Top 8. The most we've had in the Top 8 was six (in 1949), although to be fair, no fewer than TEN of the World Finalists were British! There were also ten home riders in 1937, 1938, 1950, 1951, and 1952, and we achieved the feat of at least three on each of those occasions. Jack Parker and Split Waterman were involved in this feat four times, while Bill Kitchen, Freddie Williams, Peter Collins, and Dave Jessup have three each 1993 - Chris Louis (3), Andy Smith (5), Gary Havelock (6) 1989 - Simon Wigg (2), Jeremy Doncaster (3), Kelvin Tatum (5), Andy Smith (8) 1982 - Les Collins (2), Kenny Carter (5), Dave Jessup (6) 1980 - Michael Lee (1), Dave Jessup (2), John Davis (6), Peter Collins (7) 1978 - Gordon Kennett (2), Dave Jessup (4), Malcolm Simmons (6), Michael Lee (7) 1976 - Peter Collins (1), Malcolm Simmons (2), John Louis (6), Doug Wyer (7) 1975 - John Louis (3), Peter Collins (5), Malcolm Simmons (7) 1956 - Arthur Forrest (3), Peter Craven (4), Ken McKinlay (5), Brian Crutcher (8) 1954 - Brian Crutcher (2), Split Waterman (5), Eddie Rigg (7), Fred Brand (8) 1953 - Freddie Williams (1), Split Waterman (2), Jeff Lloyd (7), Arthur Forrest (8) 1952 - Freddie Williams (2), Bob Oakley (3), Dick Bradley (7), Jeff Lloyd (8) 1951 - Split Waterman (2), Jack Parker (4), Louis Lawson (6), Eddie Rigg (7) 1950 - Freddie Williams (1), Wally Green (2), Tommy Price (5), Jack Parker (6), Split Waterman (7) 1949 - Tommy Price (1), Jack Parker (2), Louis Lawson (3), Norman Parker (4), Bill Kitchen (6), Ron Clarke (7) 1938 - Bill Kitchen (5), Alec Statham (7), Eric Langton (8) 1937 - Jack Parker (4), Ginger Lees (5), Frank Charles (6), Bill Kitchen (8) 1936 - Eric Langton (2), Frank Charles (5), Jack Ormston (7)

  40. Drifting further away from the title/theme of the thread, but I definitely attended a Christmas week match at Owlerton in the 1990s. It wasn't called speedway though, something like "Speedtrack" and had a ramp on the back straight so the riders had to jump MX style. As a result, as it was not conventional speedway, it did not to breach winter close down regs. Shortly afterwards, may be even the next year, regular meetings were held annually at Newport, with official approval, and called speedway. I remember at least one of the Tatums riding in the Owlerton meeting and think he won.

  41. I do think that the exact nature of the offence and the determination of the punishment are of legitimate public interest. Edit: On reflection, there could be medical reasons as to why some of the details are confidential. An individual's medical condition and prescribed medication are not for public consumption.

  42. Football at all levels is pretty much off this weekend. Rugby is pretty much all on. The third test match between England and South Africa resumes on Saturday, the Abingdon Airshow on Saturday has been postponed, yet the Duxford Airshow on Saturday and Sunday goes ahead as planned. So basically, there's a 50-50 split between what's going on and what isn't. If you look at football forums, they are lamenting the postponement decision. I tend to agree, By carrying on, and by pulling people together, it allows shows of love and appreciation, as well as last respects and condolence. I can imagine there will be many a rugby ground having a minute or two of silence and then following that with a great rendition of the new national anthem. Queen Eliabeth II has passed; the Monarchy lives on. God Save the King.

  43. What I was hoping to see was the rationale for the decision, a comparison between the two bids for the land, the differential between the bids, an evaluation of the community value etc. I expected there to be more than just an officer report recommending the successful bid. The successful bidder may have offered £400,000 but how much did Edinburgh speedway offer and how was that structured? I hope that the Committee meeting was filmed and that will appear on line in due course, so that we can see the Councillor's discussion and voting.

  45. Translated from Sportowefakty article Miedziński leaves hospital in Zielona Góra. We know the next plans In the coming hours, Adrian Miedziński, after almost two weeks of stay, will leave the hospital in Zielona Góra and will be transferred to the facility in Toruń. There he will begin the next stage of the fight to restore full fitness after a serious accident. After a strong head hit against the track during the semi-final match in eWinner 1. Liga for seven days, he was in a heavy coma. On Saturday, Adrian Miedziński woke up and immediately surprised the doctors. Not only did the 37-year-old recognize his loved ones, but to his father's first question he replied: "You haven't changed anything". Currently, the condition of the slag is improving every day. The most important information is that Miedziński can move his limbs, and he can even take a few steps on his own. The competitor already recognizes doctors and is able to establish basic contact with them. As for the first days after such a serious injury and a long coma, the condition is quite optimistic. The player has already been transferred from the intensive care unit to the neurosurgery unit, which means that the life threatening condition has passed and the player is no longer in danger. In the hospital in Zielona Góra, the resident of Toruń will spend only a dozen or so hours, because in the coming days a transport to the hospital in Toruń is planned, where the player will undergo intensive rehabilitation. The key now will be to restore the associative function and full awareness. Although the first news is very optimistic, it may still be very difficult, if not impossible, to recover from before the accident. Doctors, however, believe that the rider's good health condition immediately after waking up may indicate that the speedway rider may be able to restore even 80-90 percent. original efficiency. Such a scenario was mentioned in an interview for WP Sportowefakty by an authority in the field of neurology, Prof. Konrad Rejdak. - If the patient wakes up, opens his eyes and makes verbal contact with the environment, it will be an excellent signal and a simple path to rehabilitation. If the patient hears and follows even the simplest commands, such as finger cramps, there will be a chance to undertake active rehabilitation, which will significantly accelerate the recovery process - commented the president of the Polish Neurological Society, Prof. Konrad Rejdak. Ultimately, Miedziński's condition turned out to be even better than expected by a recognized neurologist. However, it is still difficult to estimate how large the changes in the brain resulted from the strong impact on the track.
