If they wanted to be in the meeting they would be in it. Lambert had no problem getting over for the GP qualifier at Glasgow. If you want to be in it you would be . Once it's on the CV, job done. Will we see Bewley in it next year? It's got nothing to do with Brexit or logistics, it has everything to do with DESIRE6 points

Confirmation once again that there is no track in the UK that comes close to the NSS. The sheer speed of it with so many racing lines make it the most thrilling track to watch speedway4 points

Give over,i would like to have seen the top 3 Brits in the final.Just because they don't ride here shouldn't mean they can't ride in the British final. You have your top riders in the final if you can.4 points

That'll be the dates that were reserved for NDL fixtures but suddenly became available when Nick Morris's Polish Div2 team got knocked out of the playoffs.3 points

You obviously know all the reasons why these fixtures didn’t take place the way you are posting this information.?3 points

Or the perfect get out of jail card for the management. It means they can jump ship & escape the sinking ship that is UK speedway without appearing to be the bad guys who closed the club.3 points

Well done to all the riders who took part in the 2022 British final, all were competitive and give their all in every race, also well done to the track staff who maintained the racing surface in warm afternoon conditions. Dan Bewley was superb all afternoon although he did have to fight his way from the back on a number of occasions. Tom Brennan a real star for the future who pulled off some great passes. Craig Cook came back from a few weeks out injured and showed he has lost none of his racing hunger with some daring passes on bens four. Danny King was good value for his fourth place but was just edged out . All in all a great afternoon of racing, I hope the Star Wars characters collected plenty of cash for the BEN fund. Well done NSS for putting on a great show. Maryport 1st Bowthorn 3rd.2 points

Where ever you hold it there would be a few riders with a SLIGHT home track advantage. That’s just how bad British speedway is now with all the double upping2 points

What I don't understand is why aren't all riders venting their spleen over these unsafe tyres? If safety is paramount as we keep getting told, why is it only Nicholls that's had the guts to say his piece? Surely the BSPL should be protecting the riders too by either not running meetings until these tyres have been proven or by enforcing the dumbing down of engine performance so the back wheel isn't spinning so viciously. Something seriously wrong if a tyre cannot last a minutes racing let alone a whole meeting.2 points

Until this year our home form was shocking and is what was costing us, the top 3 yesterday was nothing to do with it being at belle Vue. They were just the best 3 riders in the day. Don’t get why all the bickering about what’s the best track, it’s about the British final. Not the track. so well done dan on winning your first gold2 points

Surprised to find this thread in the Premiership section, particularly as there is another one, 34 pages long, in the 'Individual' section. A bit ironic that only one of the top three actually race in the Premiership2 points

The authorities oversee they sport, they produce the original fixture list. They need to ensure matches are ridden when the weather is at its best and kids are off school and that we go into the Play Offs without massive gaps preceding them. IMHO.2 points

Like has been said before Eastbourne speedway probably hasn't been financially viable since the halcyon Division 2/NL years of the 1970's bar maybe a couple of seasons after dropping into the 2nd tier in the mid 80's and the 3rd Division seasons a few years ago. Only Bob Dugard bankrolling it for years kept things going. Even then he nearly nearly pulled the plug during the early 1980's when the first move into the top flight was proving a big struggle and this in a time when crowds were bigger than those seen in modern times. One wonders how keen Bob Dugard would have been to keep speedway going at Arlington in the 80's had his son Marin Dugard not developed into the brilliant speedway rider he was? I think British speedways is soon coming to a point where only two Leagues will be viable - a top flight for the clubs who can afford to stay professional and pay overseas riders, tracks running on nights best suited to them, ETC and a 2nd Division a little bit stronger than the current National League featuring only British riders and Commonwealth riders and run mainly on weekends and riders part time. - When this scenario arrives which I predict will happen in the next couple of years then the likes of Eastbourne and other defunct tracks will stand a better chance of reopening?2 points

I was there , great racing, decent crowd, really enjoyed it a really entertaining afternoon of racing....more in depth review to follow.2 points

On Facebook there are well over 100 comments about this meeting and all of them are joyous and positive as reflects a meeting that produced spectacular racing on a brilliant track. But on this forum it's all about Kelvin's commentary and "I've seen better racing elsewhere" etc etc. Facebook has replaced these forums now as far as I'm concerned where the level of debate seems to be generally more civilised.2 points

As has been mentioned Damien Bates on the podcast has suggested they were, but logistics were a problem. I know that since Brexit riders basically need a set of gear for Europe, and another set purely for the UK, otherwise the admin and import taxes for bringing non road legal bikes and machinery in and back out can be ridiculous, especially for 1 meeting. Which leaves riding borrowed machinery as the other option, which is never ideal as whilst the bikes might look the same things like seats, handlebars, clutches and footpegs can all be set up different. Dan obviously has gear over here good enough to win it..!2 points

When the mangerment show so little sign of passion , caring or effort . .or even anger its comes as no shock .. You would think with what has gone on of late with the club and its life on the line you think they would be at there most vocal and putting maximum Pressure on Tomlinson and Gi and Sbc to stick to there word but instead nothing at all .. Like a lot of the Fans they have accepted its going to close with zero fight .. all that is left is for them to say we will find a new site and get a Swindon select side to take on Oxford next year to keep everyone happy .2 points

Glasses a bit misty today. I couldn't find any details anywhere - certainly not 9 am - so waited until the day's events had concluded before asking the question. Shortly after, Danny Ford put the teams up for both of Poole's Tuesday and Wednesday meetings.1 point

Did he not have Martin Dugard in his camp at one time? He's obviously got a bit of expertise at his disposal but it's still up to him to put the advice into practice.1 point

It's a far better track to stage a British Final on than Monmore Green for sure. Let's not forget also that we all used to go to Brandon every year knowing we could fill our programmes in half way down the back straight first lap and barely see a pass all night. Brandon was probably too well prepared, Monmore just a trick shape.1 point

He was World Ice Speedway Champ in 1974, but never reached a speedway World Final. Best he managed was the European Final in 1972, and the Continental Final in 1980 and 81. He did ride in the World Longtrack Final in 1973, though.1 point

At The Stadskanal circuit they have a memorial headstone at the entry that Vaclav Verner presented. I think Milan Spinka also rode in the ice & speedway finals. He was World Champion on Ice in 1272 I think1 point

You could well be right. For sure they are both some way off Zmarzlik right now. But looking at the field, they are the ones I see with the highest potential to challenge him in the years ahead- next season may be too soon though.1 point

I think I'm right in saying that Jan rode in four World Finals that same year? Speedway and Ice Individual, Pairs and World Team Cup?1 point

It's clear the construction of the tyre is to blame as it isn't up to the requirements needed to operate with the current set ups. However you also have to look beyond the tyres. The high reving engines causing more wheel spin puts additional pressure on the tyre construction & more heat though the tyre. The lack of material on the tracks which means that the tyre is running on pretty much the track base which far harder than running on a well prepared shale track. This in turn produces more heat though the tyre which when coupled to point one further increases operating temperatures. The shale is removed from the tracks as the high reving engines are impossible to ride on anything other than ultra slick tracks. The blue groove in reality is caused by the excess heat between tyre & track surface. When you apply excess heat to a surface it generally turns blue. In the engineering world if a set of brake discs or flywheels have a blue surface it's a sign of massive heating. We constantly read about rider safety being paramount & costs being out of control. The question must be is why won't the control board/BSPL do anything about the equipment & why are the riders so dead set against having restrictions that in the end would make the sport safer & at the same time reduce costs?1 point

Great rider in his day no one would disagree with that but sadly his time on a speedway bike is over in my opinion1 point

I remember seeing him in the national fours at Wolverhampton. Every time he went into the first bend he knocked somebody off. There was a rumour that the other riders asked for him to be banned from the meeting.1 point
