Not enough meetings. 11/12 is not enough meetings. Means many weeks with nothing going on. Should have been two home and away. Scrap group comp. Dear oh dear very poor call.13 points

Personally would rather see the great racing that scunthorpe and Redcar produces than rubbish racing and massive home wins. Nobody really cares who wins the league so would rather be entertained at the meetings I attend11 points

I can’t stand the small minded Cook haters who just mouth off at the slightest chance without knowing the facts. I’ve supported Tigers from 1964 and for me he’s been one of the most fantastic to watch and his passion for whatever club he rides for is obvious. My previous favourites at Ashfield have been Les Collins and Shane Parker for their exciting racing especially from the back and I think, for me, Craig just pipped them in the passing stakes. I personally wish him all the best for the future and I’m sure he’ll come back to bite us.5 points

I'm extremely disappointed that the Championship have done a U-turn with the 2 home 2 away league fixtures. This was going to give @ least 16 meaningful home meetings throughout the leagues 9 teams. The top of the league could (& should) be declared league champions! Any other fixtures, Micky Mouse or purposeful could be run @ the end of the season.5 points

Pretty sure he knows very well, it's the snideness of the posts which is the worst thing.3 points

Seems the biggest hater is dear old Mr perfect aka Skidder1. Cookie has been one of the best riders in the championship for years, but he's had issues off track both personal and health wise these should not be used to ridicule the bloke it just makes him human like the rest of us.3 points

Without a doubt, I’m guessing but a move back to the Monarchs could reignite his form. All the best to Craig he has been a true number 1 over the years.3 points

Will miss my number 1, when his head is good , he is a delight to watch, particularly at Ashfield, has had an horrendous season off and on track, but I believe that he can regain form, will probably come back and get a maximum, I wish him all the best next season3 points

To answer your question: - When my wife was alive (she died in January), we were sensible enough to budget in the old fashioned way, of putting so much away each month for all the different utilities that we paid on an annual basis, plus so much for family birthday/Christmas presents, which was minimal compared to the other things. Now because the bills in the main, haven't started rolling in yet, when means tested, I was told I had to much money in the bank. I explained why it was there, but to them it's my money, which of course it is, until I have to hand it over to various people like British Gas, Anglian Water, Council Tax etc; etc: I can see now why years ago, when a Post Office Savings Account was the main way of keeping your money safe, many people used to stuff their money under the mattress, to coin a phrase, my father-in-law being one of them. But then of course, the country wasn't in the mess it is today, and we weren't ripped off by all and sundry.3 points

EUREKA! I got my copy of THE BOOK today. I contacted the office of TonyMac on Wednesday, posted on Thursday, dropped (heavily) through the letterbox at lunchtime today, Friday. Looked at chapter headings for a chapter to read first….. I started off with chapter 26 “To the mechanics”. Why?. Although I only did grass track racing at club level I always appreciated the help of my “mechanic”…. the next door neighbour. Peter appreciated his mechanics, hence a chapter to them. Also, one of Peters mechanics was George Clarke, another one from Partington. He gave up racing grass track to be Peters mechanic. You will see him in the photo after Peter won the world championship in Katowice, the one with the black bushy sideburns. Heck of a nice guy, got cancer and died too young. When George gave up the grass racing I bought his 250 race bike. The frame was a Drury, that is made by Graham Drury’s dad. Good frame, and helped me to a different level. I like how the top of each page has a red/black/white banner…..Belle Vue colours. The rest of the book i am going to read in chapter number order, starting this evening.3 points

That's exactly what I thought when Bachelor was mentioned...can't stand the way he just gives up when he's at the back...gutted to see Bomber go.3 points

Thats been the age-old problem where people get something else to do on a race night, or their children do more likely, obviously there are others who become tired with speedway and the ever-changing rules, and who can blame them. I don't believe that the powers that be have it in them to re-invent a sport that can attract new supporters, let's face they have a fight on just to keep the fans they have at the minute.3 points

Last year when Sunak was chancellor the rate of inflation was 8.1% but he cut the amount paid to less than half that. By the time April 2022 came, when pension increase applies, the increase in my gas and council tax increase had wiped the rise out. My gas has gone up 40% on the last 12 months. Because I paid into a private pension I don’t qualify for any other benefits that may be offered to others. My dad was in the same situation. He too had a small private pension, every annual increase in that just kept him above the point where he and mum could have got benefits to make their life conmfier.3 points

Les Collins winning a heat from the back in the 1994 KO Cup Final against Glasgow at Powderhall is one of the finest rides I’ve ever seen. Terrific rider who was robbed of a world championship.2 points

If he knows he has personal health issues then his post is in poor taste at best. If on the other hand he had no idea then I am sure he will apologise.2 points

That is praise indeed, I've never seen any of the riders you mention at Ashfield but to be thought of as better from the back than Les Collins is some feat. When Les Collins was riding anywhere I saw him all I wanted was him to do was bring his Chris Morton gating gloves and then go out and chase the other 3 riders down. One of the finest riders I've been lucky enough to see in my 50ish years of watching the sport2 points

I agree. My total income is £7872 per annum as I'm on a reduce state pension. Just taking food alone, and I'm not exagerating (sorry not correct spelling), I have no other choice that to allow £115 per calendar month, so if it's a five week month, that works out at £23 a week, and that doesn't buy much. Sadly, there will be a great many people that are a lot worse off than me. Seriously worrying times. I'm lucky in as much as I work at my local track, but I certainly won't be able to visit any other tracks in 2023, whatever the price, and that's very upsetting, particularly as I'm widowed with precious little else to fill my time with.2 points
-
Nonsense. It's a percentage increase - so the actual amount is much less if what the percentage is based on is less.2 points

Don't forget as well that pensioners don't stop paying taxes when they get their pensions! I'm reminded of that every time I fill the car with fuel! Some are even fortunate enough to be paying income tax if they have an occupational pension as well!2 points

I would think that the "twitter vote" of over 70% bringing back the "bonus point" were voters from technical tracks that see great racing, cough cough, every week/fortnight. POINTS MEAN PRIZES!!!!!! To add to this, posters on here go on about Promoters self interest, well, they should now look in a mirror & hang your heads in shame. Read more on the Championship 2023 thread to see a lot(majority) are not happy.2 points

There were so many Teams in the League in these days you are talking about they had to run Weekly Fixtures, that’s the difference.2 points
-
Still the message but after a second or two straight on to it- obviously they think you are dodgy2 points
-
You've both mentioned teams won't win leagues using riders who won't show any improvement. But look at Poole all 3 of their heat leaders dropped their average in 2022, plus Ablitt never moved above the minimum 2.00. So clearly having ONE rider not up his ave isn't going to hurt a team (especially as you can finish 6th & be Champions.2 points
-
Although there is also a danger of fans getting out of the habit of going to speedway. Time will tell.2 points

Lambert's away ave (4.00) was higher than Kennedy's (3.76) despite Zaine racing in the easier number 7 spot for most of his matches. So I'd argue Lambert dropping to reserve would strengthen Scunny away!2 points

Kasprzak perfectly capable round the little tracks, has had Lakeside, Kirky Lane and Rye House as home tracks here and scored well at them all.2 points

Any pensioner receiving JUST the state pension isn't going to be attending speedway even it was £5 let alone £16 instead of £202 points

scrap the discount and speedway will lose at least 1/2 of its fans at all tracks . why dont promoters just get riders that they can afford and not be held to ransom by big knob riders or are you crying because YOU dont get a discount ? is that another user name you are using ?2 points

This is actually the biggest mistake of the AGM - the rider absences and guests last year turned into an absolute joke due to rider shortage. This was a problem at both levels but especially at Championship. With Leicester now moving up that seems to make the problem even worse at Premiership level though regardless of a few extra riders coming from the Polish league which were blocked before. That will not offer more options in the middle and lower ends of teams where teams needed it last season. Going to 6 man teams would of freed up 16 team places in total and eased that problem. Guests should be blocked unless they are replacing a reserve (or in the Premiership scenario the squad member rising star is used - this should of been introduced at Championship level too) or if there are two riders missing from one side. They could then use RR and a guest. There would be less travel costs for promotors to pay out, less signing on fees, riders would be getting more rides every night so earning more money and there would be a greater source of rider availability. Lower costs for teams, riders earning more, less guests/riders missing, what is not to like?? Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised but I am dumbfounded that they have done absolutely nothing to ease or stop this problem.2 points

Brian was a lovely, gentle and amusing fella. He travelled regularly with us, recently as last month when h visited the Czech G Helmet and Torun. He was always a happy smiling face, polite and good company. The Speedway World will miss him, we at TRAVEL PLUS TOURS will miss him hugely, but its his loss to his family which will be felt the most. Rest well "Woody" its been a huge pleasure and honour.
