  1. So some spotty Herbert with a wankey job title can do away with nearly a hundred years of history. Shouldn't be allowed to happen. The sport really messed up in its heyday in the 70s and 80s by not purchasing or building its own stadiums. Promoters were happy filling a trunk full of cash and putting nothing back into the sport.

  2. so as it stands 5 prem teams left still standing and likely only 8 sides from the championship 13, so would leave 2 leagues as currently with 6 sides if say Oxford went up and 7 sides in the prem I think now is the time to completely gut British speedway and focus on the development of British and Commonwealth riders. British League North Belle Vue Sheffield Berwick Glasgow Redcar Scunthorpe Workington?? British League South Ipswich Kings Lynn Oxford Plymouth Poole Birmingham Leicester Run from May - September Home & Away twice in the league declaring Northern & Southern Champions Those clubs then compete Home and Away for British champion status An Open British League cup between all sides Introduce a British Grand Prix series to replace the current one-off final and any ££££ put that into this series as prize money, gives youngsters something to aim for coming through the sport, and rewards the riders not quite good enough to earn big money in Poland The odd rider here or there who comes through with something special about them, they get waved off to the polish top flight not to be seen again

  3. The whole concessions thing I find interesting. ONS statistics show that the age groups with the highest levels of disposable income are the 55-65 and 65-75 age range. Obviously they also have the most capital too, but just based on disposable income, that's the case. I understand the concept of concessions and the fact that they've been there historically, but your asking a business to give a discount to those who can most afford to buy its product. (however shoddy you may think that product is). The best fun however is going to be now watching some of the over 65s amongst us have a meltdown and demonstrate that they are just as "entitled" as the GEN Z they moan about so much. Every group can and will take offence at anything that affects them. Speedway goes up by a couple of quid and everyone moans like f##k, yet what's happened to your weekly shop or you heating bills. Costs of operating a stadium have gone up similarly, rents, energy etc. Riders wages from what I've seen haven't increased this year over any other, except in the case where quality has increased with some foreign additions. Where speedway has to improve is that however much it charges it has to be perceived by it's customers as "good value". They have to improve the entertainment, so people feel it's worth the price they are paying. They've gone and spent a load of money on transponders that do nothing, don't work, and add nothing to the show, yet can't be bothered to spend a couple of hundred quid on a centre green clock for the 2 and 1 minute countdowns.

  4. The 'one league' concept would have to be based on the current Championship level+ which would NOT mean a weaker product imo. Further more clubs would be allowed to race on the night that best suits their connurbation and if that means clashing with some foreign leagues/competitions so be it.

  12. Aces clear underdogs again like at Ipswich... Dan will be goosed given what he has done/still doing today and will be lucky to get five.. Lidsey hasn't ridden the track for donkeys, and Charlie and Tom are on each others backs... Brady may get 10 off six... An easy Panthers win in front of a 3000 plus crowd... Getting good at this Shovlar meeting review stuff...

  13. Witches fans are the worst (after Poole fans) one week Joe Thompson does a great job and is on the pace, the next week he's out of his depth etc. Last season Doyle is a one man team, this season with Emil its now too weak at the bottom end Can't have the whole cake and eat it Good on Doyle for mentioning it, people need to be able to take it when they give it

  14. Any other season I really would have took serious enjoyment over a result like this but there's a much bigger picture. The WHOLE of British Speedway is in ICU, there should be no genuine fan of the sport taking any enjoyment right now. The 2023 season is effectively over for all.

  15. It certainly is and made us all laugh when he asked for a proper bed . In fairness though it's a specialist hospital and the care he's getting is wonderful. Big up to the NHS

  16. Rew rode far better than his score suggests and was pretty much on the pace most of the night. Emil was different gravy and a pleasure to watch, absolute bargain on an 8 point average when Max is 8.55.

  20. At this moment in time there is no time set on how long before he returns. After a conversation with him today he is eager to know timescales but he is under no illusions that regardless of his desire to ride he won't be rushed back as at 15 his career should he have one is all in front of him

  26. How about a new topic... British clubs in FL? Because at the rate we're going that's a more realistic subject heading

  27. There is no dount that if every track had just 5,000 (out of sometimes millions of people on their doorstep), and took circa £100,000 a match, 20 times a season, then they could pay a couple of hundred grand to the landlords per season which I am sure would be seen as something worthwhile to continue by said landlords.. The reality is that collectively the custodians have simply not been fit for purpose in putting the sport first before any self interest, and have never marketed the sport in any way shape or form professionally enough. Instead they have seen standing in a foyer of a supermarket with a table, or leaflet dropping car windscreens in car parks, as "promotion".. Yet they have spent literally tens of millions on riders over the past couple of decades in particular... And all to have what we have today... Mind boggling.. Best wishes to Wolves fans.. Who is next?

  28. The football club have big ambitions for eventually the Football League????? If they ever get close to it, Poole Stadium would not be acceptable and would need a total revamp as a number of things do not meet FL minimum requirements.

  29. But surely in the case of Peterborough and Wolverhampton, that can't be put down to self interest.

  30. I think Poole will win but make the most of it Poole fans as you might keep putting us down but next season you might not have a track of your own to race us on .

  33. With the reduction in the number of teams, I believe a merger between the top two leagues is inevitable. Would have to be a championship level standard, due to affordability issues with some clubs. Probably means this year could be the last time we will see the likes of Bewley, Doyle,Sayfitdinov, Holder etc.

  37. I actually think this could be a very competitive meeting. Plymouth's top 3 all go well at Poole and if Gilkes and Starke dig in, it could be quite close. 49-41.

  38. It's a magnificent book Tony, well done to all who helped with it's creation. Whatever people's views on PC and recent fall outs, it's still a great read and insight into 70s / 80s speedway. Thank you!

  39. That's not true. Wright was riding all sorts of lines in heat 10 with Brennan behind him and was doing it deliberately. It almost caused Brennan to lose 3rd to Hume as he had to go wide at one point to avoid Wright on bends 1/2. It was pretty poor and unnecessary behaviour as there was nothing that Brennan did wrong in heat 3. Wright wouldn't have reacted that way towards a seasoned or harder character either as he would have received something back.

  41. You've got to feel for Wolves fans, management and UK speedway. My club Eastbourne is currently gone with the only hope to find an area to build a new stadium/track to race in.. The sport and many clubs are finding really hard times for various reasons, the only hope I have is the sport is so on its knees that we may see a massive reset.. We all live in hope because fundamentally it could be a good product.

  42. British Speedway has been dying a slow and painful death for years but maybe this year is the final nail in the coffin. in the past decade we have lost massive clubs such as Coventry, Swindon, Arena Essex and now Peterborough and Wolves this year. I predict one big league next year and then fading out with a whimper.

  43. Not really, same with Sayfutdinov, but he's not really gonna drop his average. It's one of the best rules they thought of not letting foreigners drop to 3.00, maybe more effective in the Championship but riders like Anders Andersen, Rafal Konopka, Arlo Bugeja - would often get team places ahead of Brits despite their low averages.
