  1. Buster must be dreading this meeting. He'll have to fork out for 90 points worth of rider wages in one evening instead of the usual 34-36 points.

  2. Where to start....well what a fantastic return to Speedway at Workington on Saturday afternoon. The crowd estimated to be around 2500 was the best tribute of all that could be given to the management team, staff and riders of Workington Speedway, thank you to everyone that attended including many that had traveled some distance from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Berwick etc. A win for the Comets on track was the icing on the cake with all the lads chipping in with points for a great team performance. The organisation of the entrance to the stadium, car park marshaling and other stadium officials was exemplary . The track stood up fairy well to the afternoon sun but was breaking a little up later in the meeting , hopefully the track will bed in better after a few weeks. Facilities for food and drink were very good, better than some clubs have put on for major meetings in the Championship. Hopefully the Cumbrian people will support the new venture in good numbers to help the club move forward in the coming years. Oh, can fans use the bins provided please for their rubbish, thank you. Once again thank you to Andrew and his hard working team for bring Speedway back to the town.

  6. Why do Refs’s not disqualify riders out of control who seriously impede other riders.Recently at Berwick the Ref stopped the race on 2nd or 3rd lap when Vissing impeded Knudsen even though Knudsen stayed on the bike and excluded Vissing .Is it different rules in Gp’s.Lindgren and Woffy both caused riders to take evasive action IMO.When it’s so obvious the culprit should be exclude IMO.

  9. 2.41 available to (temporarily) replace Killeen, Kinsley is was 2.13 / 2.08 with reduction. Personally I'd go for Kinsley for 28 days for a few reasons, 1) it would give him more track time to help the NL side 2) if Killeen is fit before the 28 days are up, he can ease himself back in with NL racing 3) Kinsley can't guest for a 2.00 rider, so Oxford would have to look elsewhere for guests 4) allows Kinsley to put himself in the shop window for another club (Scunthorpe) if he rides well, but isn't kept on

  19. Yes. If he had ridden then as long as he presented a valid sick note you could use a facility all season as Plymouth did with Kennett.

  20. That's interesting as my 11yo says they take too long between races and she likes gaming too. Where is Frank Ebdon when you need him? Or we could all try 'no gaming til you watch some Speedway' !!

  21. It often contains some interesting stuff, but also too much along the lines of "actor Kieron who once played third drinker in Hollyoaks bar scene said 'I might go to a speedway meeting 'cos my grandpa used to go and talked about it all the time' " type stories

  22. In this instance Poland probably do have priority and this is why. Lublin v Krosno (Jack's club) was scheduled originally for 21st April but postponed and re-set for tonight. However, at that time Wolves were to be hosting round 1 of the Pairs so, had this gone again ahead, we would have retained priority. But as Wolves v Sheffield is a fixture change arranged after the Polish match had been re-scheduled, they get first call on his services.

  25. Some excellent points here, IMHO. The quality of the landscaping, viewing, access points layout, high stewarding level etc are all small but significant details that shout "long-term project". The track itself is a masterpiece. I don't think you need a lot of passing in a speedway meeting -- but you do need the threat of it, inside and out, and this circuit has it in spades. Steve Lawson's mantra has been the avoidance of pinch points, to let the action flow, and frequently you'd see four riders all confidently choosing different approaches to the corners rather than queue up behind each other on the one line. And if you go right out beyond map and compass territory, to the steeply banked land of the brave where the white line is in the next postcode and you have to steel yourself to keep it wound on, you reap a fabulous dividend of momentum. Bailey in heat 10 (to my strangled comment of "where's he going?") and Sam McGurk later both did it and promptly rocketed past opponents on the back straight. So, a day of triumph and great promise. But it's a promise that can only be fulfilled with public support at the entrance gate. The likes of the hobbit, 520-mile round trip, and I (420) are not going to be regulars at every fixture. Next week's crowd obviously won't match that of the opening day. But I do hope that speedway fans locally, amidst the cost of living crisis that's affected so many people around the country, feel able to turn over their hard-earned cash and help make the venture thrive.

  26. We had a fantastic day . Thank you words Can’t quantify just how impressed we were by what had been achieved. So much space, so much potential snd most importantly, the work done has been done to a very high standard snd using quality materials. Attention to detail including the landscaping snd tree planting, shows a promotional to team not afraid to spend money. the pits are the biggest I’ve ever seen!!! the track shows just what can be achieved on a blank canvas. Eat your hearts out Leicester, this is what you could snd should have done !!! To be honest, the track is too good for national league riders to fully exploit. Just wait until you see the top guys racing on this track which has the potential to be the best race track on the country. i think you missed a trick by not charging for car parking. no one would object to paying £1 / £2 to park the car snd all revenue helps i wish you every success for the future. Everyone connected with getting this far should be proud of themselves I’d strongly urge all fans to get there snd watch a meeting . You won’t be disappointed Csnt wait until you are in our league do thst I csn watch the Brummies up there. a fantastic day, well worth the 500+ mile round trip

  28. Has the makings of erm a 3 legged donkey race Both teams need a win, odds on both winning their home meeting as an act of appeasement?

  29. Yeah, that was quality. The 250s provided a few good races. There were a few unrefined but decent riders there, which is exactly what you want to see.

  32. It has got nothing to do with Godfrey. This is why Phil Morris got the job to over see Premiership meetings. Yes. Supposed to have Thursday as alternative race night for cancelled meetings. Two wrongs( postponed/fixture change meetings) do not make it right especially after a free weekend of Polish Ekstraliga fixtures on a GP weekend where they have, in the past, raced league meetings on the Sunday.(End of April for example.)

  33. There's a bigger picture than that though. Looks awful that we don't have priority over riders on our designated race night. And it means more bloody guests

  34. Yeah, I've got a strong feeling that JJ won have done the business in either Heat 13 or 15, but we'll never know. Terrific meeting between two committed sides, with plenty of incident, while the questionable refereeing calls just about balanced out, although the harshest one was to excluded Sam Woods as he was pushing around for a point in Heat 8 - slightly perplexed by that one, since a winning time was given, suggesting the race was never stopped! Oxford Chargers want to win, but it's not the be-all and end-all. It's good enough to have a talented and strong side that provide entertainment and are progressing to become the Cheetahs of the future, which has already started this season, with three Chargers in the Cheetahs. I thought Jody Scott was brilliant yesterday - he didn't allow Alfie Bowtell a way through in Heat 10 to join Henry for a 5-1 that created yet another flip in the fortunes of the meeting. That was a stunning ride from Jody, and then he made no mistakes to win Heat 14 as well. Jody is another Cheetah of the future. Sorry I didn't manage to say hello during the meeting yesterday, Mimmo, hope you're doing well.

  35. Reading the regulations: 1) rider replacement is "a facility" 2) where "no facility" is allowed a guest up to 75% is available. In this situation it can not simultaneously be both a facility and no facility.

  36. Didn't see what the outrage was all about. 50/50 call for me. Zmarzlik had got ahead of Doyle Regarding out-of-control riders-Bewley knew he messed up. If he would have kept the throttle wound on he would have passed Lindgren. He got a bit spooked and knocked the throttle off killing his race. If you want to be world champion you don't knock the throttle off there. Zmarzlik, Lindgren or Doyle wouldn't. Keep it wound on or react quicker. Should come with experience.

  37. I think so far as a newbie attending ? what a speedway meeting seriously lacks...is presentation! With so few in attendance, the atmosphere is already dull compared to most sports! I always look at how the darts has changed with time and how successful that is now! (mind you, take away 'the alcohol' and I think darts would fall on its head!)

  38. The only criticism I have of the Star is the "continued on page x"... When there is plenty of room on the first page to have included it, as invariably there is another piece, or two, alongside it... Still a quality publication though which does the sport great service...

  39. A random thought, but I noted that one person in this thread commented on Zmarzlik's signature move of diving inside into corners. Another commented on him being given too much room around the outside. Is that not a sign of a great rider? You don't know how to race against him? If you move out, he dives under you. If you stay tight he goes round you? I know it's not really relevant to last night's final incident, but just seemed interesting that these comments were made.

  42. Birmingham has had "Kids for a Quid" offers off and on since 2007. If cheap admission for youngsters worked, there'd be terraces full of young people now. Admission for 12-16yo's is currently £3. That's less than a Big Mac at McDonalds. For Students (17-22) admission is £5. Hardly deal breaking. And yet the terraces are still not flooded out with youngsters. The problem isn't price, it's value for money. You're trying to sell a product that looks 20 years older than Windows 95, to the Windows 11 generation. The product/experience needs to be brought into the modern age. There speaks someone not from Birmingham, I suspect, someone with no attachment to the city, its nickname, and its heritage. And what good did a name change do at Reading?
    1 point
  43. Okay, again, in the literal interpretation of 'past', he hadn't cleared Doyle completely but if it makes you happy, the leading edge of his machine was in front of Doyle's before the point of contact. Doyle blocked the move up the inside on the preceding laps but left the door wide open on this occasion. What was Zmarzlik supposed to do? To say that he went for a gap that wasn't there (and I know you didn't say that) is nonsense, as it clearly was. From that point on Zmarzlik rode the only line he could and made no attempt to move Doyle out. Doyle had the option to change tack with his preferred line taken but chose not to hence the contact. So apart from nitpicking the interpretation & spelling of 'past', what is your point? What did Zmarzlik do wrong? I'm quite prepared to hear someone with an alternative opinion to mine without trying to belittle them. (Disclaimer. This post probably contains spelling or grammatical errors. Read at your own risk)

  46. He should have laid it down and played the game. Or, you know, show some balls and race Doyle must have been to the Verstappen school of driving. He has someone alongside him that actually has a wheel ahead when they get to the turn, and he expects them to disappear into thin air.
