Buster must be dreading this meeting. He'll have to fork out for 90 points worth of rider wages in one evening instead of the usual 34-36 points.6 points

Where to start....well what a fantastic return to Speedway at Workington on Saturday afternoon. The crowd estimated to be around 2500 was the best tribute of all that could be given to the management team, staff and riders of Workington Speedway, thank you to everyone that attended including many that had traveled some distance from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Berwick etc. A win for the Comets on track was the icing on the cake with all the lads chipping in with points for a great team performance. The organisation of the entrance to the stadium, car park marshaling and other stadium officials was exemplary . The track stood up fairy well to the afternoon sun but was breaking a little up later in the meeting , hopefully the track will bed in better after a few weeks. Facilities for food and drink were very good, better than some clubs have put on for major meetings in the Championship. Hopefully the Cumbrian people will support the new venture in good numbers to help the club move forward in the coming years. Oh, can fans use the bins provided please for their rubbish, thank you. Once again thank you to Andrew and his hard working team for bring Speedway back to the town.4 points

Why do Refs’s not disqualify riders out of control who seriously impede other riders.Recently at Berwick the Ref stopped the race on 2nd or 3rd lap when Vissing impeded Knudsen even though Knudsen stayed on the bike and excluded Vissing .Is it different rules in Gp’s.Lindgren and Woffy both caused riders to take evasive action IMO.When it’s so obvious the culprit should be exclude IMO.3 points

2.41 available to (temporarily) replace Killeen, Kinsley is was 2.13 / 2.08 with reduction. Personally I'd go for Kinsley for 28 days for a few reasons, 1) it would give him more track time to help the NL side 2) if Killeen is fit before the 28 days are up, he can ease himself back in with NL racing 3) Kinsley can't guest for a 2.00 rider, so Oxford would have to look elsewhere for guests 4) allows Kinsley to put himself in the shop window for another club (Scunthorpe) if he rides well, but isn't kept on3 points

Unless it's a big round track,,, you might as well leave Bellego at home2 points

Yeah don't think bsn or KO cup count to averages. He'll be hoping to finish behind Marcin first few league matches get that average down. Wages must be halved this season losing all these guest bookings2 points

Fair play to him and them for the statement but let's see if it really is a 'one off'. I suspect not.2 points

Under the new rules a No.8 can replace ANY rider in any heat but cannot be used in heat 15, the reason for which is only known to the person who made up the rule.2 points

Yes. If he had ridden then as long as he presented a valid sick note you could use a facility all season as Plymouth did with Kennett.2 points

That's interesting as my 11yo says they take too long between races and she likes gaming too. Where is Frank Ebdon when you need him? Or we could all try 'no gaming til you watch some Speedway' !!2 points

It often contains some interesting stuff, but also too much along the lines of "actor Kieron who once played third drinker in Hollyoaks bar scene said 'I might go to a speedway meeting 'cos my grandpa used to go and talked about it all the time' " type stories2 points

In this instance Poland probably do have priority and this is why. Lublin v Krosno (Jack's club) was scheduled originally for 21st April but postponed and re-set for tonight. However, at that time Wolves were to be hosting round 1 of the Pairs so, had this gone again ahead, we would have retained priority. But as Wolves v Sheffield is a fixture change arranged after the Polish match had been re-scheduled, they get first call on his services.2 points

Call it off after heat 10, simples. Sun caused a delay which meant the tide came in and the tractor sank in the resulting marsh. You read it here first..2 points

Colin Horton would be a breath of fresh air. An astute businessman with a proven pedigree in the speedway world.2 points

Some excellent points here, IMHO. The quality of the landscaping, viewing, access points layout, high stewarding level etc are all small but significant details that shout "long-term project". The track itself is a masterpiece. I don't think you need a lot of passing in a speedway meeting -- but you do need the threat of it, inside and out, and this circuit has it in spades. Steve Lawson's mantra has been the avoidance of pinch points, to let the action flow, and frequently you'd see four riders all confidently choosing different approaches to the corners rather than queue up behind each other on the one line. And if you go right out beyond map and compass territory, to the steeply banked land of the brave where the white line is in the next postcode and you have to steel yourself to keep it wound on, you reap a fabulous dividend of momentum. Bailey in heat 10 (to my strangled comment of "where's he going?") and Sam McGurk later both did it and promptly rocketed past opponents on the back straight. So, a day of triumph and great promise. But it's a promise that can only be fulfilled with public support at the entrance gate. The likes of the hobbit, 520-mile round trip, and I (420) are not going to be regulars at every fixture. Next week's crowd obviously won't match that of the opening day. But I do hope that speedway fans locally, amidst the cost of living crisis that's affected so many people around the country, feel able to turn over their hard-earned cash and help make the venture thrive.2 points

We had a fantastic day . Thank you words Can’t quantify just how impressed we were by what had been achieved. So much space, so much potential snd most importantly, the work done has been done to a very high standard snd using quality materials. Attention to detail including the landscaping snd tree planting, shows a promotional to team not afraid to spend money. the pits are the biggest I’ve ever seen!!! the track shows just what can be achieved on a blank canvas. Eat your hearts out Leicester, this is what you could snd should have done !!! To be honest, the track is too good for national league riders to fully exploit. Just wait until you see the top guys racing on this track which has the potential to be the best race track on the country. i think you missed a trick by not charging for car parking. no one would object to paying £1 / £2 to park the car snd all revenue helps i wish you every success for the future. Everyone connected with getting this far should be proud of themselves I’d strongly urge all fans to get there snd watch a meeting . You won’t be disappointed Csnt wait until you are in our league do thst I csn watch the Brummies up there. a fantastic day, well worth the 500+ mile round trip2 points

This has never worked. Cradley and Stoke for example. Eastbourne Dons, Scottish whatever, London lions, I’m sure there’s more.1 point

What I like about that is that it’s a great cut back pass, but he knew Worrall was still on the faster outside line so moved out on the last bend to stop his run stone dead. Intelligent riding.1 point

Yes, I think it was Les Owen who was the other rider involved in that crash. Ironically Owen later had a crash which left him paralysed down one side and with brain injuries and short term memory loss.1 point

Comfortable home win - if the Bears can keep it within 10 it would be respectable. Expect Danny and Charles to score the majority of the points and Poole second strings and reserves to out score their opposite numbers. Would have purchased the stream but there is a reasonably important football game going on and I suspect a few Bears fans will be more focused on that.1 point

I’m told Poole will be without Anders Rowe due to an international commitment in Germany. R/R instead with Sam Hagon at No.8. Redcar hope to be at full strength.1 point

Expect the Buster war cry with the "use it or lose it" bullcrap with both clubs in attendance. The fans are NEVER the reason a club closes, this must be remembered by all.1 point

Yes. Same situation as Wolves. Wright hasn't ridden this season, so Birmingham only get a facility for a maximum of 28 days, and that has now expired. They're not entitled to a facility anymore. AFAIK Wright is riding on Wednesday.1 point

I wish you more luck in presenting the case to the management than I had. Going back to the early days, all I got was a "meh" reaction when I pointed out the existence of the Motorsports Engineering Faculty at Birmingham City University that's only 2 miles away. But hey, who needs them? What do these professors and students know? They could have had some work experience at the Brummies and then buggered off to McLaren F1 and all the effort would have been in vain. OR they could have looked at how speedway engines were designed and tuned, and maybe found cost savings in how things were done...but that would have been a threat to the established way of doing things, and you can't have that, can you?1 point

Glad Holder slammed the door shut though and hopefully a few of the others will not just wave him past like they have done for a while. Bartosz reminds me a lot of Marc Marquez, won a few world championships but will do everything to keep that going1 point

Not even a racing line that Zmarzlik was taking... Far too narrow up the back straight meaning as soon as he threw the back wheel out he was going to make contact with Doyle.. Amazed Doyle didnt lamp him when he walked back... Bewley and Woffy both had chances to clamp their opponent on the line by coming across him, and didnt do it so got passed up the inside (again)... You dont win all GP's by just gating and going fast when in front... Interesting that when "chaos" was occurring the "veterans" that are always "full gas" ie Doyle and Lindgren come out of it in the best positions because they still go into potential dicey situations full pelt... Zmarzlik is certainly pushing his luck with his own health as for the past couple of years he has trodden a fine line between "genius" and "reckless".. One "unlucky" moment could have serious consequences for him...1 point

Don't care what anyone else says on here - for me this afternoon that was indeed13 quid well spent...........Yes some will quibble about food/beer prices but all in all the whole arena, packed as it was, gave me exactly what speedway at its best can do for total enjoyment. Comets are back and it was great !!!!!......... Crowd estimates for me were above 2000..well packed in all available areas....the weather obviously added to the overall experience but roll on the next fixture..UTC.1 point

I'll never be a fan of the teamsuits cause I feel racejackets serve the purpose of the team aspect and it'd be nice to see riders have their own individual racesuits. My only criticism of Ipswichs colours are the fact they should be blue and white which are the traditional Ipswich colours! Yes if every track in the UK was run like Ipswich then the sport over here would be in a better position!1 point

I remember a lot of the early Danes, like Godtfred Andreasen at Oxford, Erik Tilgaard (Newcastle), the Boghs, Kurt and Ernst, King's Lynn's Jan Henningsen, and Finn Thomsen's buddy at Wolves, Leif Berlin. Amazing to think that in those days, we needed a combined Norway/Denmark team as the Norwegians greatly outnumbered the Danes! Later on, we had world-beaters like Sheffield's Flemming Rasmussen, Rene Christiansen (Eastbourne), and the worst speedway rider most of us have seen, Claes Jensen. Surprised there is no mention of Klaus Lohmann above...1 point

Predictable afraid, but as a Cradley fan i have to go with Erik and Janno. Erik was a Dudley Wood legend with 3 World titles under his belt, but also blessed with a lovely character which meant he was (afaik) popular with most in the sport. His accident at Odsal finished his career but in typical Erik fashion he has maintained a great outlook on life and it is good to see him still involved in the sport. Janno took a bit longer to get to World class status but by the time of clinching his World title was clearly well deserving of the Championship. Sadly we will never know how many other titles he could have accrued as he was another who retired prematurely through injury. Finally, special mention to Kristian Praestbro, who was, (for Dan McCormick) a fairly unsung signing from Belle Vue in 1978. Not only did he have 2 excellent point scoring seasons as a Heathen, he also played a massive role in helping Erik in his formative time at Cradley.1 point
