  1. As I drove out of the gates last night, it really hit home, I was born within a mile of Monmore Green, my family brought me up on the terraces at Monmore Green, I raced my first laps of my career at Monmore Green, I met my Mrs on the terraces of Monmore Green, I saw my all time hero Sam Ermolenko at Monmore Green and I’ve met 1000s of people who I call friends at Monmore Green, I hope a new piece of land can be found for a new track but it will never be Monmore Green, a million memories have just been crushed by corporate greed (again) for me last night the heart of Wolverhampton as a city stopped beating and it hurts

  2. A tough night to get through and one I'd dreaded since the shattering news in April. Some decent racing on view, but that was of secondary importance on a night where corporate greed finally and selfishly ousted friendships that have been built, memories made and dreams came true (with the odd nightmare along the way!) 33 years on from first walking into Monmore Green as a 7 year old kid, I'm finding it hard to come to terms that just over an hour ago, I walked out through the gates for the very last time. Seeing my first speedway hero Ronnie Correy back on a bike again (and still looking handy btw) took me back to those halcyon 90s days, where life seemed so much better. The end of an era. Let's hope can do it all again some place. Monmore Green. 1928 to 2023

  3. Struggle to understand why Wolverhampton council never stepped in to say speedway must remain and refuse planning permission for dogs on a monday night. As for tomorrow, its not a challenge. Every team in the league participated and so its no different to the k o cup. Just a shame leicester couldnt get their act together last season.

  4. As with everything it is all shades of grey. In a winter where we are losing at least two clubs already, rule changes scrapping the third tier will probably also see Speedway become unsustainable at another two. However you frame it, that’s bad business for the sport. The way to go would have been one professional league and a grassroots league. With no entry point to league racing the supply of riders will dwindle and potentially dry up completely in the next few years. Losing the National League will be worse for the sport than many realise I fear.

  5. I'll agree with The Dean Machine on that! Entain have boasted that from 2024 onwards, their "customers" can walk into a betting shop and watch a greyhound race from one of their stadia, "every few minutes throughout the day." No wonder the country has such a huge problem with gambling. Is there no end to the avaricious greed of these people? Good luck to the Wolves in their quest to find an alternative venue. It's no easy task as we all know, but if anyone can work the oracle, CVS can!

  7. Dougy was always a pleasure to watch around BP when he rode for the Lions. He was cheerful and had a positive attitude to his racing. In my book, he'd be welcome back in a heartbeat.

  9. Great Post, I'm from Ettingshall originally and the sound of the bikes on a Friday night got me intruiged, my Dad agreed to take me as "they've got a bloke called Ole Olsen who is pretty good apparently..." I was hooked, great times, good friends made

  13. You echo my thoughts on Jim and Jack, Steve. I am desparately sorry to learn of Jim's passing. I remember watching him as a new rider at reserve when he joined us and eventually became our Number One. It was great watching his progress over the years. He came over to the UK around 2006 and we had a 'do' for him, we also met up with him at Redcar to watch a Speedway match.. He was a lovely fellow and a smashing rider... He will be sadly missed by all Sunderland 'Stars' Supporters. My sincere condolences go out to Jim's family and friends. May he Rest In Peace. +

  14. It seems that Drew Kemp is happy at Scunthorpe, I for one would definitely like to see him back next year.

  15. He said: “You can see at the top of the pictures the new grandstand being put up opposite the old one. And the arches will be the pits for the speedway teams. The tory bloke has idea has he ? “I’m very pleased to see the progress that’s being made – and I think it was a very good decision by the council to give planning permission that insisted the stadium was rebuilt before more houses can be built nearby.” why ? what good has it done anyone If Speedway is not going to take place anymore and Greyhounds meeting don't have anyone watch it anymore what was the point of forcing anyone to build it .

  16. Not sure what he's on about . Speedway only runs one a week on a Thursday as a rule between March and Oct .. So easy to fit in and any rent money from the speedway on top of the Greyhound money is a bonus and better than nothing , From the speedway point of view a club a of Swindon support have a better chance than most of breaking even . The bottom line is Clark has stopped Speedway so he can build houses just like he always wanted to

  21. I see most people have gone with six heat leaders and a R/S......I've deliberately named two second strings and two reserves as I think that's more in the spirit of a 'team'.

  22. Stadia UK don't own Poole Stadium, the local council do. They only hold the lease to stage whatever sports they are licensed to.

  23. There's also the possibility that Charles Wright may not be fit for the start of the season. He got well smacked up in Poland the injuries could take a while to recover from both physically and mentally.

  26. I'm not sure Wolbert would come back to Armadale but Riss would be a good number 3 in that line-up if he is 100% fit next year. *I'd give Clegg a wide berth though after last season, especially if his average is over 4 points

  27. Certain councils in Britain are not interested in saving what they see as British 'legacy culture' which is why every sport except football is being allowed to die (rugby League, speedway etc). The cultural landscape is being reshapeed purposefully to better suit the newer cultures who have no real interest in the old ones. I know what i am saying may be controversial but go take a glance around your local speedway stadium next time you're there and look at the demographics of the spectators and you will see what i am alluding to, especially if you also understand the demographics of Poland and then factor in their country's relationship to speedway and how well it is doing there. In many cities there are no new generations who are being brought up like we were or even being raised in the same cultural environment. I've been saying this for the past few years and everybody looks at me like i've fallen from Mars but speedway won't exist in Britain within the next 30 years when the indigenous cultures are all but gone no matter how much it bids to appeal to the newer ones. Enjoy British speedway whilst it lasts as it certainly won't be around forever.

  28. MTV has just contradicted himself with his 1st & last paragraphs. If say Killeen, Boughen or Harrison come in at no 7 & beat fellow reserves & the occasional 2nd strings they could, potentially, be running with a 5 point average but you say in your 1st part that they have to stay at no7. Yet in your last part(not beating heat leaders), you are saying that they should not stay in their protected no7!

  34. The article says Harris has already been named. That's incorrect. The won't be any announcements until sometime in November. However, no one around Glasgow believes anything other than that Bomber is coming back. If the team and/or Bomber didn't intend for him to come back, I'm certain it would've been announced. I'm interested to see who we end up with. My current guess from what people say would be: Bomber, Worrall, Bailey, Hume, Borke, Complin, Pijper. Not my favourite 7, but they're all riders that others like and people seem to be interested in.

  37. The problem with this format is most riders would expect to be paid unlike times gone by when a rider would go almost anywhere for second halves etc just to get some laps in . Obviously if there isn't payment offered, then it's the rides choice to take part at their own costs. Speedway over the years has become it's own enemy as far as money being paid out to riders, who, like I've said expect it now. Not all juniors expect it of course.

  38. Purely for discussion… 1. Josh Pickering 2. Paco Castagna 3. Kevin Wolbert 4. Lasse Fredriksen 5. Richie Worrall 6. 2 pointer 7. Max Clegg Thereabouts with a 38 point limit? Assumed 7.50(?) for Wolbert and 2.32 for Clegg, but someone can confirm what they’d likely be? Wouldn’t have a strong reserve, particularly away from home, but as good a three heat leaders you could get with the 38 limit maybe? Does bring back four from last season, which I said I was against, but can anyone realistically think of a better option than Lasse around that average?

  39. Please let's not try and build this into something it definitely isn't,it's an end of season challenge nothing more.probably 80% of fans I spoke with on sat thought it was meaningless, unfortunately there are a few regular posters on here whose posts are totally unrepresentative of the majority of poole fans.Weve had a good season and am very confident that a super competitive team will be assembled for next season (cooks would be top of shopping list of every other team in the league)

  40. I estimate that I have been to around 80 different tracks. Some I have enjoyed and some I haven't. But not for 1 second have I wanted any of those tracks to be lost to the sport.

  48. On the little difference in their average I would say Brennan would be a better signing than Flint.Flints average is inflated because of his home form, whereas Brennan’s away average is higher than his home average and IMO a better all round rider at this stage of their career’s.

  49. I've seen this comment many times & I'm not sure why? Cook was having a fantastic season, had upped his average and was out performing Pickering, until the incident against Poole, which I can only assume affected him badly. It's not like he never finishes a season, I'm sure it's the first time he's not finished a season (unless injured). Even so, teams use guests all the time, don't understand how that could be considered as negative
