  1. That's a bit harsh. I'm not exactly a Roynan fan, or think he was a good replacement, but he's only trying to ride a speedway bike to make a living. And I'm sure he'll do a better job than me or any other poster on this forum.

  2. Am I the only one who thinks this is a real shame if true? I was one of those who thought no thanks to riding at my club and he shouldn’t be allowed back near the sport but I watched his interview and thought he showed genuine remorse and wanted to put it behind him and be a better person, from that point I thought everyone deserves a second chance but maybe I’m just gullible.

  5. Excellent meeting tonight on a very good track with no dust until the final couple of heats. Extremely well watered with plenty of dirt made for a trick first few heats but after about heat 4 the track produced some very good races. A special mention for a couple of riders who were quite excellent. Vinnie Foord who really should have captured third place but dropped points in a nasty fall with a do or die swoop in his last down the back straight. He flipped and went cartwheeling into the fence and was lucky to walk away. Some of his passing was excellent and if he could gate we would have a very good up and coming young rider. Also worthy of a mention is Sonny Springer, the youngest rider on show tonight. He had never ridden the track before but he won his last two races and looked fast and stylish. A rider to look out for. The meeting went down to a runoff between Jake Mulford who had been excellent tonight, and only beaten by Foord, as was Sam Hagon who also only dropped a point to Foord. But the runoff was decided down the back straight of lap one when Hagon got his head in front and after that it was never in doubt. The U21 British Champ can now add the NLRC title to his honors. Well done to Mulford for a battling performance. A good nights entertainment.

  6. Not really a shock , it's up there as one of the worst tracks in the UK imo considering it's history of attracting some of the worlds best riders. Its obviously the over the top wages they must pay out.

  10. Right now it would seem that the junior league is the only stepping stone between the training track and our Championship side. Whether thats too big a step is certainly a fair question and an NDL side would certainly be one way to bridge it. However it may be costly and may also be an obstacle to rearranging Championship fixtures.

  12. 100% agree that the live experience can't be bettered... I remember vividly taking my kids to their first meeting a few years ago and their faces were a picture as 4 riders hurtled towards the 1st bend showing no signs of giving an inch - That first experience has obviously stayed with them, because even as teenagers, I say I'm going to speedway and who wants to come and generally they are keen. If I ask if anyone is joining me to watch speedway on BSN or eurosport, then I know the answer already... they are not at all interested. So live will always reign supreme, but promoters have got to find new ways of applying the 'hook' in the first place.

  15. My memory goes back to 1985. We had lost Billy in April which ripped the heart out of the club. Kai niemi returned and we were due to face the mighty cradley heath but we were going to be missing John cook I believe for a compulsory trip home. John berry hated using guests so we actually used double rider replacement!!! Not only that but we beat cradley too. it’s the only time I witnessed double rider replacement but it was a incredible performance from the witches after so much adversity.

  16. More fool those who don't turn up to see NDL NJL, U21s etc. There's plenty of young talented lads out there who just need tracktime. I'll put my head above the parapet and say if the British U21 final was at Oxford the crowd would be 1K plus. Admittedly Oxford have a lot of speedway starved fans within a 50 mile radius. But I reckon there's a fair few CL clubs who'd like our crowds at NDL level.

  17. For the money Lindgren is being paid, he should be winning heats 1,13 and 15. Artem Laguta wouldn't let 2nd rate riders like Tungate beat him.

  18. It is totally relevant He was looking to return to the sport, putting out PR that he had learnt his lesson and deserved a second chance Whether he is at liberty to take up a team spot is a key factor in the story

  19. Eh? He was a SPEEDWAY rider. Committed s crime and was released on license. Was back riding SPEEDWAY at Scunthorpe in amateur meetings. How is that not relevant to a SPEEDWAY discussion?

  22. Given the injuries to Doyle it really isn't in his interests to not be fit given the SON is at his home track that he flies around. Surely he would have been a must over LIdsey for spot 3 until he was injured.

  23. Thanks for your aggressive reply and incorrect assumptions. All I did was state facts - mine were factual, unlike yours As you know, I always did cover the junior meetings Triple H and I loved them. Unfortunately though we are in the minority which is why I dont think also running NDL would keep people going regularly every Friday. Bierao I wouldnt have a clue about the attendance at Armadale for NDL meetings, hopefully one of the Edinburgh people or NDL reps could give an answer. I dont think, in my opinion, that its the race day putting people off. Most people were all for Glasgow moving to the Friday night and night time racing. I think the problem is a set up where clubs go weeks without fixtures and fans cant say 'we race on Xday, lets go along' is the issue but as I say thats only my opinion

  32. "Technical tracks", when well prepared, are a bit of a "Freddie Special"... He enters the bends quicker than most, and can manoeuvre the bike to find the traction needed to pass those in front.. No point having someone with his skillset there if a slick dust bowl is all that gets provided..

  33. Due to the way the sport is ran, there is no tribal feeling of "I must go" that you get with other team sports.. As, for a great many, the racing is the reason to be there, rather than the importance of the result.. Hence, many can comfortably stay away and watch it on the TV, and see it as a chance to "save a few quid", but still watch the racing.. As an example, Tungate's score the other night for KL could actually assist KL prevent his own team from making the play offs... If that happens, then Oxford would then be asking a lot of their "big" crowds to return next year in the same numbers I would suggest .. TV crowds show that fans, in the main, don't take it "too seriously" hence when they get a chance to see it without forking out any more cash than their TV subscription, then they do.. Promoters cannot complain about that as they set the operating model...

  35. Last year at workington was so.e of the most entertaining speedway I've watched in years My poor old mate (rip) always said national league was much better Not as fast or not as many outstanding riders But because it was closer and more equal machinery the entertainment was better Unfortunately he died before workington started back up hopefully he's looking down every week and can see how good a job workington have done

  36. I would say that away supporters would more likely stay at home and save on petrol, food, drink, and entrance fee plus dodgy forecasts.Away support has certainly fallen off a cliff from the days of Belle Vue, Coventry, Cradley Heath, Swindon etc racing on a Saturday, but there does appear to also be a sizable reduction in home support which ive witnessed myself, at one stage tv was seen as essential to raise awareness and promote the sport and increase attendences, i just think today it will just do the opposite. For me speedway will always be better live anyway.

  37. All you are proving is that the people you are criticising know the rules, and you don't. Ocford have had 6 riders all season, having named Alex Spooner but him not be able to take his place. This means no facility for the space in the team. Leicester were missing Arran Butcher due to racing grasstrack. Had he been 18 or under, they could have had a guest. However he's over 18, so no facility. The only option for a "no facility" situation, is an unattached 3.00 rider. You still haven't named the unattached 3.00 rider who would be better than the choices made.

  41. Got my ticket for tomorrow - much as I resent having to buy it a day in advance. It's Championship speedway, not Taylor Swift, for God's sake! Weather forecast is dry and sunny, which is a bit of a concern as that normally means a rain-off at O*ford! C'mon the Batch!!! Go Celina Go!! Girl Power!! Good grief, that's far too much speedway enthusiasm for one day.

  46. I think that your post does Celina a great disservice. There are separate men and women competitions in most other sports so why not speedway? She is clearly a pioneer leading the way for women in a male dominated sport and deserves all the credit for the hard work and dedication that she is putting in to her chosen sport. As for your presumption that all other female riders are 'nowhere close to her level' then you do a disservice to the other 10 riders from six countries (including two British riders) who took part in the meeting yesterday and aspire to be successful in speedway. 47. That it clashes with Oxford v Workington If it really was the NDLRC Luke Killeen would be in it and the Cheetahs using a guest. But it isn't and Killeen is riding for Oxford, not in some jumped up open junior meeting.

  49. Same riders - not same event. Big difference. One has been staged every year since 1994 (bar 2000 and 2001) in one form or another and carries some cachet with former winners such as Tai Woffinden and Dan Bewley. The other is a completely new and unheralded series, and this is only one event of said series.
