Didn't think we had much bad luck last night. We just weren't that good and got beaten by the better team.7 points

Happy with the 4 Qualifiers, You normally get one surprise that ends up having a shocking GP series after qualifying but not this year. Hopefully the Wildcards go to the correct riders and then we'll have the best GP field in years.4 points

I think my 2024 season is over and here is my final tally: Where Visits Cost Belle Vue 7 £270.00 Birmingham 1 £23.00 Cardiff 1 £22.95 Ipswich 2 £46.00 Leicester 14 £300.00 Oxford 3 £66.00 Sheffield 4 £92.00 32 £819.95 Even with all SoN's and Leicester reaching the pay offs this is actually 1 meeting (and £122) down on last season due to the closure of Peterborough (and Wolves) . It doesn't include at least a couple of wasted trips to King's Lynn to sit in the car park in dry conditions to find out the meetings had been cancelled and you can add in £249.98 for the total BSN pass. Meeting count wise I'm well down on the good old days where the number of meetings would probably be in the 50's or 60's, maybe more.4 points

From my opinion, poor track prep, Poor viewing areas, poor lighting, over zealous security checks on the entrance, car park charges & a losing team contribute to the drop off in attendances. Wearing a top hat like some kind of ring master was weird as well. Do like the pit walk before the start though.3 points

WOW, super proud of the boys. From start of play offs to end they gave there all, unbelievable performances. It’s the top hitters that win you titles and these stats for our top 3 are insane. This is where it was won Kurtz averaged 9.3 in the final (9.41 in play offs) Lidsey averaged 8.4 in the final (8 in play offs) Bewley averaged 12 in the final (10.2 in play offs)3 points

Fricke always goes missing in the big meetings. 11 points over 2 legs is pathetic for a rider on a 9 point plus average. Leicester were never going to win either leg with a dreadful number one performance. Becker equally very poor.3 points

That would be rather perverse to have three Aussies but leave out the best Aussie of them all.2 points

Qualifiers where the 2 best non-GP riders were barred from. If you consider that the "best", good luck to you.2 points

It was at the 1979 InterContinental Final at London's White City. Ivan and Finn Thomsen had both finished on 10 points, so a run-off for third place was needed. Ivan gated and led all the way until the very last bend when his bike had an engine failure. Or so we all thought. He deliberately shut his throttle off because he didn't want to finish third. He knew the rider who finished third would have two rides on the trot in the World Final and Ivan didn't want that. I would wager the other 15 riders that day would not have known that. Such was his attention to detail that he missed out on a podium finish and prize money because he saw the bigger picture. It certainly paid off because the great man won his record-breaking sixth World Final that year. Legend!2 points

What's the point in the podium race tonight? After 20 Hts. Kurtz 13 Pts Thomsen 12 Pts Kubera 11 Pts (3 Heat Wins) Fricke 11 Pts (2 Heat Wins)2 points

Nope only an amateur like you. Any professional would make plans for a foreseeable contingency. And as late as ht 14 it was still possible we wouldn't get a result today.2 points

Les was riding a Jawa DT500 double overhead cam known as a double knocker, micheal Lee rode one when he won in 80, mauger and Olsen dabbled with them too, the introduction of the 34 mil carb literally killed off the DT500 overnight, it was a very thirsty engine that worked well 36 or 38 mm carbs,,ice racers used a 2 valve version, it was another couple of year before Jawa were back on the scene with the 897 single over head cam2 points

They say you’re only as good as your last performance and that’s certainly true of Max. To say he goes missing at the big meetings is a little bit unfair. You’ve only had the semi-final and the final that you could term as big meetings and in the semi-final, he did excellent and pretty much got you into the final. It’s always going to be difficult when you’re up against a top two like The Aces have, same with Ipswich had their top two been in play, Max is number three in the averages for a reason and that reason is he’s an excellent rider. He had two rough nights at the wrong time but that’s no reason to condemn him as a poor rider.2 points

If you're going to keep Max Fricke, you'll need the new big hitter to be at No 1 and he'll need to still be at No 1 when the season goes into September2 points

Just been on the phone to dad who was at the meeting last night. Said the atmosphere and crowd was terrific. Everywhere was packed out and the belle vue fans were making great noise. He did arrive very early to the track and got let in. He spoke to one of the track men and was adamant the track shouldn't be watered at all, guess what Stewart decides it needs watering does the exact opposite of what should have been done. Oh well Belle Vue probably would have still won anyways. It's a shame that few hundred lions supporters left at the interval. Think they had seen enough. I gave up after heat 2. Becker was terrible, Kemp tries but isn't getting any better. Hagon got stuck in but that's about it. What I did find out is how the programme was bumped to a fiver. 5quid for a programme is a rip off. What a shame. Changes are needed next season for sure. Proper number 5 and new number 6. Wouldn't even mind bringing bad boy Morris back to ride at 4. We will see anyways. Congrats to Belle Vue and already looking forward to next season!2 points

Your right a strong top 2 is always the way to go. Having Kurtz and Bewley is huge, they deliver when it matters.2 points

Grigory Laguta is another rider who should have been in the GP series. He was consistently one of the best riders in the Ekstraliga, but he kept getting overlooked for a wild card.2 points

It's pretty simple and has been said by many others - can't perform when the track is wet, maximums all along when it's warm and dry. He needs a winter practicing on frozen lakes in Finland2 points

Don't particularly won't to rake up old ground but they didn't need to do anything, they should have just called it at 31st of August and left the 2 KL meetings outstanding, what they did with their interference was the worst of all the options available!2 points

just got back enjoyed the meeting and there was a good atmosphere around the place, a good crowd, bewly and Kurtz were class act to watch round that track, ist time been there and liked the place where it is with the trees all around , track was in very good condition too. just think 3rd and 4th bend more banking would give riders a better opportunity to pass, no one ever went past the middle of that bend, so half of it was never used. bewly went the furthest when he just beat dougy over the line. also good luck to Kurtz in the challenge today.2 points

They spent 30 mins on the first bend with all the fans... And Mark Lemon walked amongst them all with the trophy... Must have been a good 400 or so from BV.. I suggest the BSP seed them to the final every year as they seem to be the only club that takes a decent following away from home... Kurtz and Bewley majestic, on a track that is sadly woeful, they turned their bikes inside out to get traction and get by their opponents... The track staff must have done a sterling job to get the meeting on, just a shame that the bloody shape renders the racing so processional... All the Aces "did their job" and beat their direct numbers or packed in comfortably for second and third... Great atmosphere on the first bend, a bit like "the old days" when more attended the sport... Edit. How about a European Final v Lublin to start next season...2 points

Congratulations to Belle Vue on another title winning season. The Aces beat the team that finished the top of the league, and the team that finished 2nd in Final. For those reasons they deserve the title. We all know the rules at the start of the season make sure you finish in the top 4 and get to Play Offs, I am a fan of the Play Offs and they add extra excitement to the sport, so no complaints from me about my team top the league, Belle Vue are the champs this season.2 points

What a damp squib of a meeting. Was there finally a pass after the 2nd bend in heat 15? Fricke always goes missing in the big meetings. He ensured the Lions had no chance with one win in 8 races. Pathetic. Becker was awful. An absolutely dreadful meeting devoid of passing or action.2 points

To blame the away fixtures for cash flow is ridiculous. They have had equal amount of home and away fixtures over the course of a season. Why would anyone invest in a team who only have a year left to run ? That’s not an investment that’s a donation !2 points

Good interview with Antti Voulas in this weeks speedway star, said he enjoyed 1st season in the uk, learning the tracks in both leagues, and wants to return to the UK next season, and with the comets as well . Hope it happens UTC2 points

It's quite likely that Zmarzlik wouldn't have 5 in the locker if Artem and Emil weren't banned. As things stand, he could easily get to 10 unless someone ups their game considerably. I just can't see where the challenge is going to come from at the moment...2 points

Problem Leicester have with their current top 5 is that they have reached their peak and existing averages are only going to go down. They haven’t got someone who you can see adding 0.5-1.0 pro their average . For 2025 they need better consistency from Fricke and someone to step up from the other 4. I’d stick with Fricke, Douglas, Lawson, the Masters/Becker combo is too flaky as shown far too recently. The reserve area need a rethink, going back to Cook, Kerr, Kemp season on season just isn’t working, get in a solid 5 pointer down there like Sedgman, Howarth, Batchelor or even look at a returner like Jakobsen take pressure off the Rising Star. Know it’s easy to point it out but harder to fix it1 point

Bewley & Kurtz were absolutely immense last night, Kurtz in particular with a real captains performance and the day before his dream GP Challenge meeting. Neither had showed anything like that form before around Leicester and against weaker opposition too. For Lions you get the impression that with the celebrations and jubilations after the semi victory against Ippo that the job was done as in as much as getting to the final was enough. I can't imagine how wide your team shirt merchandise will be next season with that extra star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐1 point

Strange, isn't it. Back in the times when I started going to Speedway (1965) we would go to Coventry (and away tracks) to watch a Speedway meeting, because we loved the sport. Whether Coventry were fighting for the League Title or fighting to avoid the wooden spoon, we still went to see a Speedway meeting, because we loved the sport. We went to season opening (and closing) challenge matches to see a Speedway meeting because we loved the sport. Nowadays it seems that others only want to see 'meaningful' meetings. To me, all Speedway meetings are meaningful, the result is just secondary.1 point

Not technical at all, all you have to do is change a tyre, check tyre pressure, turn a wheel, change sprocket and chain links, adjust ignition and maybe change a jet size and fuel up, that’s pretty much everything you do at a meeting, in a workshop you just strip parts, wash bike and parts and reassemble, checking nothing has broke, bent or worn, strip carb, wash it and reassemble, adjusting arm setting with dial gauge, very rarely mechanic will touch engine settings, you might check tappet gaps but no exactly rocket science, you have to work quick these days but mostly you are at the riders instructions but If you have riding experience you can give your input, it helps to know what changes will do like jetting/gearing etc but you pick these things up as you go along it’s my opinion you could go from an average Joe to become a fully competent mechanic in one season, it’s pretty basic mechanics, one thing that has to learnt is trust, the rider must trust you 100%1 point
