Breaking News: EU Regulations Force Speedway Bikes to Have Brakes! In a shocking turn of events, the European Union has announced new safety regulations requiring all speedway bikes to be fitted with brakes. The decision, aimed at improving rider safety, has sent shockwaves through the speedway world, where brakeless racing has been a fundamental part of the sport since its inception. The EU Commissioner for Motorsport Safety defended the move, stating: "It's 2025. We can't allow motorcycles to be ridden at high speeds without any means of stopping. It's a matter of public safety, common sense, and European unity." The regulation mandates that all bikes must be fitted with front and rear disc brakes, ABS, and—most controversially—an emergency handbrake system modelled after those found in cars. Riders caught competing without these features will face heavy fines, suspension of their racing licenses, and, in extreme cases, mandatory enrolment in a defensive riding course. The speedway community has reacted with outrage. A former world champion called the move "a disaster for the sport," adding, "Next they'll be making us race in reverse to lower speeds!" Meanwhile, a British Speedway spokesperson was equally unimpressed: "Speedway with brakes? What's next, traffic lights at the start line?", adding, “Even though the UK is no longer in the EU it will have to comply with the new rules to save riders competing with different equipment.” Manufacturers have scrambled to comply, with one company already trialling an experimental system where the brakes are automatically engaged if a rider leans too aggressively into a corner. Reports suggest that initial testing resulted in one rider performing an unexpected front flip over his handlebars. Despite the uproar, the EU remains firm, with the EU Commissioner insisting: "If Formula 1 and MotoGP can have brakes, so can speedway. Riders will just have to adapt!" The first "brake-friendly" speedway event is set to take place soon in Poland once testing is complete, with new bike designs rumoured to feature brake lights, indicators, and even a horn. Critics argue that these changes will ruin the spectacle, but EU officials have assured fans that "it will only make the racing more strategic and pedestrian-friendly." For now, the sport holds its breath (and brakes) as it hurtles toward a slower, safer future.7 points

That is absolute nonsense. That's just Polish Speedway 🐂💩 defending itself from potential prosecution.4 points

I make comments on tracks based on racing, entertainment and the ability or chance to overtake and being honest most of the Premiership tracks don’t provide much in respect of decent racing or more than the odd chance of passing. The NSS is thankfully one that is generally allows for numerous different racing lines, sadly not many in the Premiership do and after watching speedway in excess of 50 years I feel well able to know the difference between gate and go tracks and proper racing tracks. This sport is in a real mess because of the lack of decent racing and entertainment and I make no apologies for highlighting it. Perhaps I was spoilt in my time at Peterborough because it was one of the best racing tracks in the UK.4 points

Belle Vue threads always end up like this because there are an element of BV fans on here who post like 12 year old children.4 points

Must admit, it did seem to be a "gift horse" didn't it? If not 100% to ride then he, or the manager ,should have made the call for him to withdraw from the meeting.. And also, I am quite surprised the KL fans have been seemingly "ok" about the mechanical failures.. The Aces seemed to have working bikes.. Which is pretty much the most important thing..4 points

He'd started looking down at his bike before he was passed. Spawny result. But I hope it gives you guys some false hope so you leave it longer to strengthen.4 points

In fairness Phil is a pretty balanced and fair poster and a decent chap when you meet him.4 points

Not making anything up, Bewley passed Cook then was half a lap later Cook slowed. I was there saw it with my own eyes, made a 7 hour round trip supporting my team, will you be making a 7 hour round trip on Monday? You could also say no such thing as bad luck and could say it’s bad bike maintenance. If that hadn’t happened Harris wouldn’t have replaced Boughen, Belle Vue could have had tac sub. Probably still would have been small Kings Lynn win but who knows .3 points

If Poole had stayed in the top league Kurtz would most likely still be at Poole, so you should thank us for dropping down to allow you to use him.2 points

think you will find it's the one with more top flight league titles 😉 Poole can't match Aces History in a million years 😉 where are you now oh yeah 2nd division somewhere where Aces have never been or likely to end of conversation 🏆♣️2 points

Jen has asked me to see if you want to pop along to the stadium so she can explain how the club is supporting Dave through his illness. Can you suggest a time and date that works best for you?2 points

Please stop quoting these trolls. Where the hell has Zagar being against the rules come from? Trolling at its finest from a seasoned expert along with its ability to throw insults about for no reason. Grim. Bit rich when thinking about the cheating from Ipswich in the last few seasons (Crump, Klindt, Pearson) and the Tom scenario during last season. Their win at all costs (and it costs them a lot) is the kind of behaviour UK speedway can ill afford these days.2 points

Another belle Vue thread in less than 2 weeks that’s gone way over the top. like a never ending school playground fight. end of the day Belle Vue get the win kings lynn very unlucky to lose but that’s sport im afraid. Both sets of supporters can certainly be happy with last night. im not going to get ahead of myself as that result certainly painted over the cracks of our side but a wins a win. well done Zach on gaining your first race win in our colours and that ride arguably won us the meeting.2 points

I don't know why Aces fans are going over the top for, Yes you finished the meeting well as I said last night and you won the meeting by 2 points but the warnings signs are still lingering in regards to the Belle Vue 1-7. Got to take into account that If it wasn't for King's Lynn's issues earlier in the meeting it would have resulted in a third straight double digit defeat for Belle Vue this season (50 - 40). I'd be happy with the win but I'd also be very wary at the same time because it was far from convincing and you needed alot of luck against a team that doesn't have an out and out No.1/No.5.2 points

This just isn’t right is it. I’ve no doubt Boughen was genuinely unfit to take his third ride but if this can happen then that just opens up the door to manipulation in the future. It’s accepted that Premiership teams have six Premiership standard riders, and one up and coming rising star each for the sole reason of mixing it with better riders to help their progression in the sport. Every rising star has to take three programmed rides, no advantage to either side. The fact a club can replace their rising star with let’s face it, a seasoned heat leader despite him riding at reserve, doesn’t sit well with me. You’ve basically just been handed a bonus tactical substitution that the other club won’t have. Okay Harris only got one point in that heat but that’s not the point. If a rising star can’t fulfil their programmed rides, then that club should run heats with only one rider. Unlucky for that club yes, but that’s the way it should be. The only other way around it, is by giving the opposing club the option of replacing their rising star with their senior reserve also. Unless the injured rising star was due in heat 14 which wouldn’t allow the opposition an opportunity to replace theirs, in which case you go with one rider.2 points

im not, unprofessionalism cost us in the end.2 points

All of this talk of bad luck, to me it was mechanical issues and not bad luck. How many times did Belle Vue have an engine failure? You make your own luck sometimes2 points

dont make things up bewley passed cook only because he had already started to slow broken fuel pipe bewley not gating isnt bad luck2 points

At least Mark Lemon admitted Belle Vue rode their luck a bit last night, shame some of their blinkered fans couldn't see it.2 points

2 5-1s and a 4-2 actually (Bewley had already passed Cook). If Bewley hadn’t been so slow out of the start every race giving everyone a head start then could have been more comfortable Belle Vue win.2 points

You’d have lost by 10 without the Stars’ bad luck, don’t get too excited2 points

Absolutely no need for it to be, Lynn would have won that at a canter without three enormous slices of bad fortune. Nothing to be concerned about as disappointing as the final score was. But that's speedway. Belle Vue did the necessary in heats 12 & 14 to set up the win when those heats really ought to have been Lynn heat advantages so credit to them, and it was a great race to finish which shows the value of transponders. Let's see what we can do up there on Monday and fingers crossed Ashton will be fit.2 points

Oh hello look who’s woken up!! Not a word spoken on the two threads against Ipswich strangely, but after Belle Vue get away with one by scraping past a team who suffered three EF’s whilst on comfortably 5-1’s, you’re on here within seconds giving it the biggun!2 points

Naturally my first thoughts are for Tai Woffinden to make a full recovery. While it seems the wrong time to think about replacements the truth is Sheffield will have to do that, they are probably privately thinking about their options. They cannot ride with only 6 riders (unless they use r/r) and cannot delay the start of the season until Tai is in better shape. I'm 99% sure Sheffield will get a 28 day facility. They'll really need to make a change before 1st May as Rowe's rolling ave will then lose it's 25% reduction & the team will be over the limit. Like others I assume a double change, two second strings replacing Tai & Hume may be most likely. Very unfortunate for Danyon, but if he can score well, can put himself in the shop window in case other teams make changes later in the season. Sometimes as fans we are so used to riders making miraculous comebacks from injuries it takes it out of you when they appear more serious. Get well soon Tai.2 points

It's better late than never. Perhaps you should have re-read you post as well...which is considerably shorter. Stop having a go @TTT, he posted an update (which perhaps he should have read, although it's pretty obvious it's a translation issue), he's now edited it and has been very courteous about it, which is more than can be said of you!2 points

Well I said KY would beat BV last night so what do we know 😄 but yes a Ipswich win is my bet for this one1 point

Didn’t Jones also take a fairly hefty knock and as the 5th average member of the team it meant an r/r facility that weakened the team significantly for a bit then the ill feted Eric Carillo deal1 point

We are champions, not other opinion matters. Get over it, move on, go out and get some fresh air, it really will help you. Belle Vue are 14 times champions, if you want to go on who was the best team in the league Belle Vue would be 15 times champions:).1 point

Terrific performance from The Aces with all the top 5 being at least paid a win and the reserves posting a credible paid ten, the result was only in doubt due to a below par performance from Dan - before the last heat. I’d pencilled Brady in as a super tac but the ef’s to the stars prevented that, curtailing our scoring somewhat. When I realise that the Harris scoring machine and stars best rider could take half of RS Ashton’s rides, I thought here we go again but The Aces prevailed with a gutsy finish. Fingers crossed for Ashton, I hope he’s at the NSS on Monday where the stars will be optimistic of snatching a result given our vulnerability at home. Hopefully our away form with continue to carry over from last year.1 point

Too much of Danny’s ippo career the expectations on him have been higher than his level, he’s never been a proper 1 or 5 in the top league but he’s had to be that and then overly criticised when come up short - now he’s not got the burden of those unrealistic expectations should go along quite nicely this season. Hawkins made a good point with king riding at 2 the majority of his rides come earlier in the meeting on a grippier track which will suit him also Great start last night for him and the team 😃1 point
