What's frustrating on here is there's not one post giving Plymouth any credit for giving that KO Cup tie a proper go. Everyone wrote us off heading into Saturday, we got a deserved 8pt lead, could've been a couple more. Heading into last night, everyone (Including some of us) expected Poole to just power away and win it by 8+ on aggregate. A comfortable night everyone was saying... Plymouth had 7 heat winners - I can't remember the last time we went to Wimborne Road and achieved that? Whilst yes, on the night a 14pt win is a comfortable evening, the Gladiators have made that a proper test for the Pirates. We're starting to see signs in my opinion that the Gladiators are going to ruffle a few a feathers in the league campaign this year and aren't quite the pushovers everyone assumed they would be. When you think Alfie Bowtell and Lasse Fredrikesen, both have started this season well had just 5 points between them, it could've been a lot closer than it was. Congratulations to Poole, good meeting last night, best of luck for the rest of the KO Cup, bring on the league fixtures now!7 points

The sport is serious decline in UK.Dont know the answer though.Strange decisions seem to being made in the eyes of many supporters, but at the end of the day the Promotions are the ones with the money invested.Sporadic fixture list will kill off the sport.4 points

More like the big boys days are going to be over soon. You will be having a3Team Tournaments with Sheffield and Ipswich every week4 points

Thank Lisa, for the Ritchings Reflects link. Here's hoping he continues to improve, he's certainly putting the effort into the pre-meeting preparation and reaping the benefits. I also like that he has shown he's a bit of a racer. He's doing everything he can to make sure he can't be ignored come the end of June.3 points

Agree, we need weekly speedway or at least fortnightly, having 3 -4 week gaps, folk will find something else to do with their time and money3 points
-
I agree with you, it was a proper test, scoreline doesnt do the meeting justice. I am sure Barker could do a job for a premiership club at reserve, his pass in heat 6 was outstanding.Good meeting overall and it was close on aggregate until the end, Plymouth can hold their heads up high.3 points

Such an aura that Belle Vue’s crowds have flopped to the few hundreds.3 points

Promoting stopped back in the late 70’s. I can remember seeing posters etc around Rayleigh and on the A127 etc on most race nights and plenty of articles in the local press. Saturday night and bank holidays at the Weir were packed with families in the stadium and a good smattering of away fans on the back straight. Best were Eastbourne, Ipswich, Canterbury and Crayford but you also had Bradford, Sunderland, Crewe, Ellesmere Port and others who made the journey. Alas this has all gone now and we are left with a shadow of what it used to to be.2 points
-
That’s so true though to be fair, as a PROMOTER surely you have to be good at promoting the sport as well as just your team. How much can it cost to even put signs around each city about the local meetings taking place. In Gorzów, before every meeting they have the Stał flags waving on all the buses and signs on every main entry route into the city. That doesn’t really take that much planning does it?2 points

Ritchie must be scared of Boughen, as he rightfully should be!!!2 points

I think Lambert is a poor choice of guest for Ipswich, I know he is a good at Lynn usually but he has been poor recently and Jenkins had a crash the other day so Boughen should score some points.2 points

I would have said more Touchy than Touche!2 points

Clever by Lynn, Kildermand only OX rider to be able to replace D Thompson. They could've had cook or Riss but instead try to mess Ipswich up Hopefully Janowski for Doyle as he's good round Lynn and at 2,3 or 4 should do a great job Now Witches management we going cheap and predictable with Hume or get a champ rider who's doing well to guest?2 points

Lynn will never have a better chance than this All the pressure on them - proper bottle job if they fail.....2 points

It’s a very disjointed season these days for the lesser riders,I think that’s the reason for their inconsistency riding weeks apart.Sady not going to get any better2 points

Well done to Plymouth, taking us to last heat decider! fantastic meeting with some great racing, what a move by Barker in the heat with Lawson and Tobias. Rowe the star again and needs to move to 5, Lawson again solid and Darryl what a performance, getting better each meeting and the main thing showing some fight! Zach poor again, yes he had a fall but running the same inside line for 4 laps against Thompson who only does that hoping things may happen, try the wide line and try and make the rider in front try and second guess you! Kerr looked down on power again and not at the races, the less said about Starke the best. Great servant to British Speedway but his days are done sadly. Yes I keep saying but we are going to be found out quickly against Redcar, Glasgow and Oxford as they are far too strong for our miss-firing squad. Onto the next round of the KO cup.2 points

Its so popular in manchester nobody turns up for a league meeting.2 points

Ah Phil and his wind ups, BV must be boring him and the Prem. Nothing interesting will happen in that league til September now. No wonder nobody wants to move up. 💤💤2 points

The way things are going, the premium league will soon be over2 points

If Starke (3.7) and Kerr (7.07) were to make way, totaling to 10.77, and Carins comes in on a 2 does that not leave 8.77 for the pirates to play with? That would leave the pirates a few options like Ben Cook(should be back on the bike in a month and maybe looking for more meetings to get himself fit and make up for lost time/ earnings) and even Scott Nicholls if he’s recovered and not retired2 points

He was signed to ride at reserve, if he was signed as a second string that’s where he’d be. You were the one that claimed the Poole reserves are better than a guy averaging almost 10. Obviously been a long day for you.2 points

Still confused what Poole saw in Starke for this year. He must've talked a very good game, because it's a long time since he showed one.2 points

While I take the point that Lambert hasn't been good this year, Kerr hadn't been either yet rocked up at Lynn and hit paid seventeen. Never underestimate a rider who knows the Lynn track well and how to set a bike up for it. Add to that Lynn being as consistent as school custard this season and it really could be any score either way. But I agree with taps, we will never have a better chance to sole our local rivals.1 point

Simon Lambert guesting for Witches against us, not that long after he stepped in to manage us the other week is actually crazy 🤣🤣 but it is British Speedway, it’s no surprise… I can’t see him doing much anyway tbh1 point

Well we made hard work of that tonight we look nowhere near a title winning team at the moment,Zachs idea moving to 5 well that’s gone about as bad as it could have another shocking meeting in general,Kerr lacked speed all night and to get 5-1d by Thompson and Trigger at home is pretty embarrassing and a real worry. I think it can’t get more obvious than tonight that Rowe needs to be put to 5 asap it just feels like positions 3,4,5 are a mess at the moment Kerr 3,Zach 4,Rowe 5. As for Rowe another masterclass showing why he will be one of the top average riders in this league and Lawson again solid as ever, special mention to Darryl Ritchings who was the match winner for me and should of been rider of the night, and I think the management are going to have a decision to make soon wether cairns comes in for Starke or Ritchings.1 point

BREAKING NEWS.... News breaking in parts of Dorset and Hampshire Shock news that Poole Pirates are NOT the only Team who use Whatsapp / Facetime / Zoom or the good old fashioned Team Meeting to discuss tactis on a regular basis! Middlo has defintely lost the Dressing Room - simply - any one can manage a Team that wins every week, far harder to manage a team delivering below expectations....time for him to earn his money!1 point

And their lies the problem. When riders did work and ride, the crowds were far bigger than today. Riders in this day and age have got to have 2/3 bikes. The big van and full time mechanics. In the 70s/80s. Riders in the second division would mainly have one bike, The top riders would maybe have two. A mate would dope and oil and get paid a fish supper. How can you expect to be a full time rider. Riding in a front of less than a thousand people? If the second division does not go part time then its curtains in my opinion.1 point

... if I want to go and watch a T20 Cricket match at my local ground on FRIDAY the 30th of May at 18:30, look at the ticket options available to me: https://www.tixr.com/groups/leicestershire-ccc/events/leicestershire-foxes-v-derbyshire-falcons-123326 A group ticket of 5 for £18 each... the way Cricket sees it, a group of (working class) mates coming for a night out and a few beers, they've seen it on Tv, it's colourful, musical, the crowd are involved with prizes and stuff being given away there's dancing girls. They've also seen speedway and see a load of pensioners sat in camping chairs filling their home made programmes in watching a tractor go endlessly round a track and its on a school night. The way a Speedway promoter sees it, 5 strangers grouping up outside the turnstile to get some money off... and while this attitude remains crowds will continue to dwindle. ... I remember a few years back at Leicester they wouldn't even let a couple of mentally handicapped people in at a concessionary rate!1 point
