But the season isn’t “Over” is it? 🙄 Couldn’t have said that better myself. This sport collectively attracts the most miserable buggers on earth unfortunately. Whinge after whinge after whinge. Speedway in Britain has always had a finishing date of October 31st. There’s plenty of time to fit in any remaining fixtures. We at Ipswich used to run fixtures right up until Halloween in the not too distant past, with people dressing up in Halloween costumes and prizes awarded to the best outfit!7 points

I do feel some people are going a bit overboard on the cancelations, especially in the PL. The season does not finish until the end of October, so there's still around 6 weeks to run 4 matches. The alternative is to finish up by the end of August... and people would be complaining about that. I think it's more imperative that clubs invest in track covers more than ever, with riders not wanting to ride at the slightest site of a wet track these days, track covers would certainly allow many of the fixtures to take place when there's been the 4 o'clock shower that leaves a track saturated and the sun is out at start time. The CL on the other hand, that does seem to be a bit more shambolic with all of their competitions still having a long way to run.7 points

you wouldnt believe we had the best summer in years and no week break for Speedway of Nations, this was the year that we could and should have finished earlier5 points

A simple rule !!! If riders are tied after 20 heats it goes to wins, 2nds and 3rd’s - if that cannot split them then the fastest time set by each rider is the determining factor. It shouldn’t be but it is. All because they couldn’t work out who beat who in the 4 rider tie in Cardiff in 2024.4 points

See it on facebook as well people moaning about having the play offs in September due to the weather . September can sometimes be the best month of the year and we still have 6 weeks tll the end of the season anyhow. Sometimes a speedway meeting can be rained off its just unlucky.3 points

Always best to wait for the official announcement of the dates, rather than making yourself look silly by ranting about something you have made up in your head. 😉3 points

Don't worry about it. You have finished earlier. 😉3 points

I don't understand why you think it is farcical. For those finishing in the top 10, the heats are simply a qualifying process for the LCQs and the Final. These races then define the finishing positions and the points awarded to each rider. It may not be correct in your eyes, or anyone else who thinks the pre-2020 system should still be used, but it isn't farcical. It's no different to the playoff process that decides league champions, where the season long matches are 'qualifiers' and the winners could be any of the top 4. BriSCA F1 stock cars used to award the National Points Championship (and the right to wear the coveted silver roof for a year) to the driver scoring the most points over the whole season. But now, the title is awarded to the winner of a 12 round shootout in the last couple of months of the season, contested by the top 16 drivers at the cut off point. NASCAR in America also use an end of season shootout which means any of the top 16 at the cut off can be declared champion. These changes have been made to increase entertainment levels and public interest. They may seem incorrect to some, but farcical is just an opinion.3 points

Agree - It has just been an unlucky weather window this year It could happen in any month whenever the plays off were organised for2 points

Mike, you always talk a good game but I sometimes wonder why you come on this forum because most of your posts are full of negativity. If I had a quid for everytime you've used the phrase "mickey mouse sport" I certainly wouldn't be taking my holidays in Cleethorpes or Skeggy! I'm also having difficulty understanding your recent post. If the play offs are to remain, are you suggesting that the finals should be held in July or August when the weather has a better chance of behaving itself? The league matches themselves have to lead to a climax of some sorts so if the play offs are held in July, what the hell then happens in August and September? I've known past Julys that have been a complete washout and Septembers that have been akin to an indian summer so blaming the powers that be for this current weather situation with the subsequent cancellations etc is both unfair and pretty unreasonable.2 points

You could argue that having top notch machinery is part of being an excellent Speedway rider and not unlucky at all. It's no coincidence that you often see the same riders with mechanical issues2 points

absoultely ridiculous that some clubs havent finished there regular scheduled league meetings, and now scrambling to get the play offs arranged too. some fines should be coming for those clubs in my opinion.2 points

There's actually 11 individual shareholders, but with 34 shareholdings, as the shares are issued in five different voting classes.2 points

Premiership is governed by the TNT deal but the Championship has made an absolute horlicks of their fixtures this year with none of the competitions anywhere near being concluded. No doubt due to riders being unavailable at various times due to foreign commitments, not to mention all the guests used for uninjured riders. Its been a complete mess and will probably only get worse before the end of October. A massive rethink needed for next year.2 points

Mind you, back in the day, Freddie Mockford used to employ a member of staff specially to go out after Tom Farndon's races to pick up the bits that fallen off his bike during the race!1 point

TNT production costs significantly higher than BSN maybe as much 10 times as much for play offs with additional cameras being used Not been in Leicestershire today but know when I left at 8pm last night it was very heavy rain with roads flooded1 point

Who told you it was a summer sport? Ive been going since 1969 and it has always been March to October.1 point

That's like backing a horse and it trailing in last, but sticking a hundred quid on it didn't make it a bad decision 😁1 point

A "summer sport" running (hopefully, fingers crossed), in October....!!☺️ Hopefully Scott has developed some innovative way of settling who wins the final if it doesn't get completed...😄 Sadly, it is very much rinse and repeat with UK Speedway., As has been suggested on here, maybe it's time for one point each if a meeting gets called off? I am sure that alone would get more meetings ran on time during the season, given no income would be forthcoming for either promoters or riders... Track covers have been shown to work so there really isn't any excuse to not invest in them.. And any bona fide professional sport, so impacted by weather, would make such defence against the vagaries of the UK weather top of its list of priorities.. Priority race nights should make the completion of the season something easy to deliver... Given seven teams, six matches per week were possible with only 84 needing to be ran.. Three and a half months of Speedway to be completed in six months.. There is a phrase that goes "Winners always find a way"... UK Speedway definitely needs some "Winners" in the leadership of it going forward....1 point

It does become more of a lottery weather wise the further you go through September and October but some of the best Speedway matches I've seen have been under lights on a crisp autumn night. With PL clubs limiting themselves to 2 race nights per week, without track covers, they are just increasing their chances of not being able to run.1 point

Revised details can now be confirmed for the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership play-offs following the postponement of Monday’s semi-final at Leicester. With the Lions’ opponents Sheffield electing to retain their regular home race night this week, the Tigers will stage what has become the first leg on Thursday September 18. The second leg of the semi-final will be at Leicester on Monday September 22, whilst Thursday September 25 will be held as a reserved date. The Grand Final will not start on this date. There is then a break for the FIM Speedway of Nations, with the Grand Final to take place on Monday October 6 (at Sheffield or Leicester) and Thursday October 9 (at Ipswich).1 point

Ipswich won’t run a Thursday night, they only run on Monday bank holidays so naturally Leicester will get the Monday at home and Ipswich will end up with Thursday before hand for the first leg. Absolute shambles once again from Speedway, they will put it down to the weather and take no responsibility about sorting out more fixtures in summer months. We’ve had hardly any rain offs this summer so it would have been perfect to get more done, but we wait until crap weather comes in September and also try to cram it between the Toruń SON which starts in September as well. Add on top of that the fact the league didn’t even finish on time shows how much of a joke it really is.1 point

The big difference between speedway and stock car attendances is that Speedway relies on local support, whereas stock car racing has travelling fans from all over the country. I generally do about 30-40 stock car meetings a year, but my nearest track to home is about an hour away and some others are much further. A few years back I was in Cornwall one weekend and Scotland the next. Last night at Kings Lynn was the F1 World Final - the biggest stock car event of the season. As well as competitors from all over the UK, there were also drivers from New Zealand and Holland on both the big race grid and in the support events. Over 60 drivers had come over from Holland for the weekend, along with all their support teams and families. Travelling is far less of a risk as it is very rare that a meeting will be cancelled due to the weather, except if there is an extreme forecast and then it would be called of in advance, not 10 minutes before 'tapes up'. Just for the record, the £42 being quoted was the advance ticket price and they went off sale a week ago. The gate price was £48, and when I arrived at 12.30 (racing started at 5pm) there were big queues at the ticket office of people without advance tickets.1 point

Same every season……all the prime fixtures are run on muddy tracks in dodgy weather with p. Poor racing. record breaking low rainfall throughout the summer and we have spasmodic fixtures due to British gp, swc, bournemouth playing football, England playing tiddlywinks, and any number of random excuses. last Thursdays FTG at Ippo due to wet track conditions was an example. …1 point

Have they? They take British riders away from league fixtures on a regular basis to go and finish well down the finishing order on the continent and have only staged 2 Test Matches (both at Glasgow) in the last 5 years. They've failed to get any kind of exposure since twice winning the SoN and the only chance the fans get to hear of what's going on is by following them on social media that seems more interested in pushing the wares of their sponsors and running some kind of lottery. Yes, they're doing a better job of running the GB Speedway Team than their predecessors but you have to ask to what end?1 point

I have posted similar on this forum before, only to be shot down by those 'in the know' that. Throttles never stick, cut outs always work, it's no risk. Despite the rule book stating the lanyard must be attached whilst the motor is running. It is, after all only a rule1 point
