  1. Good on the management team he's young and could be an unpolished gem. I always prefer when management take a chance on a youngster who might be a future quality rider rather than someone whos best days were a decade ago and have no improvement left in them.

  2. Summary of Premiership news items in Speedway Star, dated 28 May 2026; BSPL say Ipswich now 99.9% likely to be coming to the tapes this season, as the takeover still has one niggling matter to resolve. No riders announced yet, apart from Edwards BSPL say Northampton now 97.6% likely to be coming to the tapes this season. Still hoping to complete a deal with an as yet un-named investor with £200k sitting in his bank. No riders announced yet. Rumours they could begin the season by staging home matches at Wembley as someone at BSPL remembered there used to be a track there a few years ago. Belle Vue, Kings Lynn, Leicester and Sheffield have already gone ahead and raced many of their scheduled matches against each other, the last fixtures being listed for the last week of June. No season tickets have been available yet, but hopefully they will be for their remaining matches, which will all be against Ipswich and Northampton alternately. Ipswich v Northampton matches will all be staged during the final week of the season, whenever that is. The big meeting of all current promoters and owners, to plan for the 2027 season and scheduled for June 6th, has been cancelled. Premiership owners and promoters are currently too busy flogging dead horses, and there have been no responses from any in the Championship, apart from the Scunthorpe representative who queried the need to look so far ahead. A BSPL spokesperson said that the meeting will now "probably be held sometime in October, or whenever the current season is over and done with". Bartoz Zmarzlik has been confirmed as World Champion for 2026, after already accumulating sufficient points from the 18 "sprint races" during the GP events staged so far. Interviewed, he said he was "very happy"

  4. Couple of interesting points said by Godfrey, sport England are there to help - not true don’t want anything to do with speedway and the bspl and speedway futures are here to help any track get up and running - not true don’t reply and when they finally do no help at all (individuals with the sport are helpful)and speedway futures were asked by cradley for a supporting letter signed by Redknapp to help with their dealings with the council- didnt even get a reply and as I stated on an earlier podcast that the consultants that are working with cradley to find a track said they couldn’t believe that cradley had got so far without the help of the governing body whatsoever, that statement alone speaks volumes

  5. Jakobsen sounds like an exciting prospect, good to have some new blood in the Championship. The But for me has to be the fact he has four 2026 contracts, you would like to know where Workington come on the priority list. Not so great if he were to only ride half the time like say Nagel in 25. Hope I get to see him race down here at Wimborne Road though.

  6. Just listened to Rob Godfrey in full... Fair play to the host who asked all the right questions (eventually 😉) and also to Godfrey for responding to them. That's all I'm going to say about it really as there was a lot of "there's a lot going on behind the scenes" which I've heard too many times before in this sport only for nothing to materialise. Not filled with confidence when Godfrey couldn't even remember the name of the former MP that has joined SFL and he kept referring to SFL as "them" when he's on the board! Like I've said before Godfrey does a fine job at Scunny but should be nowhere near the top table of Speedway in the UK.

  7. But as Godfrey says speedway futures are the completely independent organisation who will be running the sport going forward and they are completely independent with only Godfrey and lemon in it who are not independent

  8. It's an "umbrella" organisation that isn't... Far too many vested interests, far too much self policing, far too much "what about me?", far too many disparate businesses, wanting far too many disparate things from their sport.. Any leadership of any sport should be independent, and given powers by the stakeholders to run the thing, after consultation which sets, and agrees, the business and operating plan. The independent body/person then just implements the policies agreed.. UK Speedway cannot move on when so much is diluted, fudged, and changed to suit disaffected individuals who want adhoc changes made due to circumstances, just to suit their own agenda..

  9. A great number of fans who closely follow the sport, and live just a few miles from their local track, don't bother attending regularly... There will be for sure, the "novelty value" initially, but, ultimately, when that wears off after a couple of meetings, it still will be UK Speedway you will be watching... And we all know how successfully delivered that is...

  10. Whilst I can't argue over time & distance you have provided. I will say that getting the fans of those clubs to travel is another task entirely. I have attended Oxford since their comeback & With Coventry, Swindon Lakeside, Rye House, Reading, Bristol, Newport & Somerset all within a sensible travel time few fans from these clubs are seen at Oxford.

  11. And we don’t need more fixtures because I’ve filled my calendar with stock car meetings which would have been staged at Bradford. Sorry I mean because the second time teams came our crowds were down. which had nothing to do with us being bottom of the league

  14. What struck me was he said if anybody came to them for help it would be forthcoming, surely the BSPL should be proactively approaching any prospective speedway operations and offering them help, they shouldn't need to be asking for it.

  16. Hats off to the Comets management, who once again introduce a new rider to British speedway, just a shame that the asset rules changed, and they now don't own or get future loan/transfer deals from them.

  17. My point would be is that we shouldn’t be make up ANY rules regarding reducing averages. You are just opening the usual can of worms that devalue the sport as professional. A rider’s average is his average .simple.

  22. And a great character to have in the sport as well as being a hard rider. No one like him today unfortunately. For protagonists and hard riders who could get a crowd going him an others were what made it tribal but fun. Yes those were the days for a different type of speedway entertainment with promoters who were also quite animated and outspoken. Today’s promoters are the woke of the sport and it is all the poorer for it.

  25. Last season between the NDL/NDT there were 50 "league" meetings. This year with only the NDL there will be 30. That drop off is alarming. Particularly when we should be trying harder than ever to establish some strong foundations for the sport here. The following quote from the press release looks to me like no more than lip service too. So we have some tracks running a full third tier campaign and others who can just get away with the ambiguous "Second Half Open Invitation". Of course there are differing restrictions at certain tracks but there has to be more than the odd second half. It should be mandatory for professional tracks to run at least two NDL level meetings during the season. The benefit of doing this over a second half would be the riders and their team (generally parents at this level) would know they're guaranteed a ride weather permitting rather than the always in the balance chances they have to take by turning up for a second half. If the tracks lose money on these meetings it's not ideal but it is an investment in their riders of the future, without whom there won't be anyone to help them make money in the long run. Furthermore I'd like to think when the riders coming through reach "professional" standard they'd choose to race for a club that actually put some effort in to the third tier rather than one that did the bare minimum but can throw more money at them. We all know that's wishful thinking though. As with everything in British Speedway there is too much ambiguity. There should be hard and fast rules in place with consequences for those who don't toe the line. The top riders don't want to be here. We need to focus on developing more riders domestically, instead we've almost halved the meetings available to them. Pretty pathetic really.

  27. Not sure I’m going to be on anymore, I’ve spit my dummy out over not being asked on this week 😂 joking aside I am slightly annoyed at not being asked on this week and how they went about it,,what’s the point of doing it if people like Godfrey are not held accountable on it ?also I’ve really had the wind knocked out of my sails over other things in speedway over the last few weeks and it’s really tested my love of the sport, I’m sure I’ll get over it at some point but at the moment sod speedway

  29. He has contracts elsewhere too so liked in places other than Argentina. I think he had a decent season at Leicester last season, I totally get his attitude annoys the fans, I used to get annoyed when he rode for Poole but he also wins races beating other teams heat leaders so you gave to take the rough with the smooth sometimes. Next season he should be the best reserve in the league so should score well home and away. On occasions he could be the match winner .

  30. Most of the junior championships have been stand alone events at Belle Vue. It’s only since Covid that they have followed our junior team meetings. Unfortunately, speedway fans talk the talk when it comes to supporting junior development and just don’t come out in any numbers. It’s someone else’s problem. With regards the last question then no recent rider has made an impact from any track that supports youth development - yet. It doesn’t happen that quickly. The current one that has made an impact is our Dan but unfortunately Peter Collins, Andy Smith, Joe Screen, Carl Stonehewer, Dan Bewley types don’t come along that often. https://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/thread/16008/round-belle-vue-13-2016 https://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/thread/17086/round-belle-vue-05-2017 https://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/thread/18095/round-belle-vue-28-2018 https://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/thread/19002/round-belle-vue-22-2019 https://www.speedwaygbarchive.co.uk/britishyouth20

  31. Yeah just carry on with the same old same old carp, and the same old faces, I had genuinely thought LR may have brought in a new face albeit one that can be outspoken and has ridden for a few teams over the years, then again maybe he is to much his own man for LR's liking.

  32. You’d think we’ll hear something this coming week at some point, one way or the other! The “within two weeks” timeline from Louis expires this coming Tuesday.. Think we’re fortunate in a way that the BSPL are desperate for us to run! If Oxford and Birmingham we still coming to the Premiership tapes, I’m convinced we’d have been given a deadline to confirm our participation, and that would have now expired! Got to feel for all the others who are sitting and waiting for Louis, so they can get their fixtures and season tickets on sale.

  36. The only way I could see it working is if they talked Harry into fronting it a bit like Clarkson's farm and then got a tv deal with Amazon or Netflix off the back of it with £200-£500k of backing from the tv company so they could get a really good side together and also give the marketing a really big push.

  37. I don't think most people would of heard of whoever the 5 point rider was, if you dig through the results he had last year in the Danish Semi-finals and U21 final, he seems a rather exciting signing for me. It's been 3/3 success in terms of the three 5 point assessed riders we've signed exceeding their 5 point average so far. He's been in much better company than the overall level in the Championship so I'm sure he will be very competitive and learn a lot

  38. Although supporting Rayleigh, once I had learned to drive a few of us use to do Crayford on Tuesday, Wimbledon on Thursday, Hackney on Friday and Saturday night at eight at the Weir. When it came to other away matches, Canterbury, Eastbourne, Ipswich and Peterborough. I never went to Rye House until the season that the rockets de-camped to Rye. Jack Millen was one of those up at the top with the likes of Brian Foote and the Kennet clan. Use to relish Dave Lanning turning up at the Weir and the accusations over methanol were legendary. Those were the days.

  41. Isn't the 8% season reduction only applicable to British riders who were in the Championship? If so, then it should apply to the likes of Ablitt, who didn't ride Championship in 2025 partly due to injury.

  43. Only just read this, RIP Bob, he spent something of an Indian summer with the Heathens he came as someone who could pick up an odd point or two having suffered from injuries which affected his points scoring, by the end of the 1977 season he was again capable of beating anyone except the very top riders and was a vital cog in a very good Cradley Heath team, he retired from British speedway at the end of the season, from everyone at Cradley Heath we send our condolences to family and friends.

  44. Can’t praise BSN enough; they’re almost single-handedly keeping the sport in the UK visible and accessible. I hadn’t attended Ashfield for many years until I heard about BSN and tuned in. Two years later, I’m a track regular again; all because of BSN. As such, I cannot get on-board with any criticism of them. I’ve been a season pass holder for two years now and I think they’re adapting to each venue and improving the product every year. I don’t think you can ask for any more. They’re good people too. They’re authentic. I think Ian and Greg (Brennan and Blair, if I recall) are great.

  47. There is still a possibility of a 6th team running. I know I get shot down in flames every time I say this and don’t mention the team name, but I respect people when I’m told something in strictest confidence. Still lots of work going on in the background to make this happen and the clubs won’t release their fixtures until this is a yes or a no.
    1 point
  48. I think you are giving the BSPL too much credit Dean. They wouldn’t think of that !!! imo the 6th team is just a pipe dream. If they had acted sooner it could have been achieved but Godfreys head was too deep in the sand.
    1 point
  49. I’m beginning to wonder if this 6th team talk is a smoke screen to deflect from they haven’t secured the 5th team yet and it stops people talking about the Ipswich situation until it is resolved,,if it was a done deal they would surely be able to release fixtures by now, so clearly all is not sorted
