But he is going to look, he made an error off the bend so checked everyone else's position, it's normal with every rider who makes an error. Absolutely normal to do. At the point of Rushen looking back, Harrison was far enough behind to see Rushen's corrective manoeuvres. For me, the incident only arises because Harrison isn’t aware of his surroundings. Rushen doesn't & never did turn left down the straight. The only decision the referee had on offer was excluding Harrison.5 points

Watching the incident over & over & for me (unpopular opinion clearly) the referee made the right call. Rushen overshooting the corner a little & just tries to get his wheels in line quicker to regain speed to hold position. At no point through the whole move is he moving left down the straight. The view from behind is very very clear on that. For me, Harrison had enough time & room to see what was happening in front of him but failed to adjust to the situation.5 points

That’s cause the ref is clearly and idiot and doesn’t know what he’s doing. 16 or not he would know you shouldn’t be pulling lefts like that down a straight, he even looks twice before doing it.5 points

Speedway fans know if they turn up late the meeting will be delayed. It makes it harder for me as I rely on trains to get to meetings. One late start has already cost me £185 for a unexpected hotel room. But the issue is a professional sport should start at the time stated. 19:30 start for me means ready to start heat 1, which also means 2 minutes goes on at 19:28 and a parade should start at 19:23. Not start time at 19:30 and first race gets underway at 19:45 or later.5 points

Best wishes to the two fallers. I was surprised they let Harrison up to walk away after that. I just wanted to say how disappointed I was with the Northampton presentation, nothing new or different just same old. This is an opportunity to take all the good stuff from all other clubs and make it something special, oh well.4 points

Was also at Elfield until it closed. So you will know, the biggest problems were - The Speedway board seemingly doing their damndest to make sure it was unsuccessful (begining to sound familiar), with fines etc. Coventry, who seemed to think MK were a threat to their gates!!!! 🤷♂️ The local council always upholding the local residents complaints (noise etc). Local scumbags who kept vandalising the stadium. Causing Terry Cheney to spend money on security & repairs. Rather than improving the facilities. The facilities at Brafield, Terry would have given both arms for. It has great potential. The trouble is Speedways Rulers are no better than all our politicians. They're the reason British speedway is in such a mess.3 points

You are joking! As Jan Staechmann pointed out, there aren't any brakes. You can see Harrison trying to pull back/away, but he was accelerating out of the bend taking a natural line, while Rushen (who took one long look, and then a second glance), had moved across from the natural line. I doubt any rider would have expected him to be there. Harrison had no chance - neither did Scott - or do you think he should have navigated his way past?!3 points

Take your kings Lynn hat off mate I for one am not castigating Cooper … I believe he meant to go a bit left and when he did coupled with the looking behind him he went further over than he thought My youngest daughter now 17 did roller speed skating and was a multi british champion …. One of her very first outdoor races at the age of 6 she was coming down the final straight and looked behind to see her fast finishing rival … the looking made her veer to the left … her skill set at that stage meant she drifted …. She was pulled in front of the officials and given a warning and rightly so although her mum thought the officials harsh I believed they were correct … age is not a factor and should not be taken into account Cooper got this wrong and I don’t believe maliciously …. The fact he is the best youngster we have and is showing outstanding form doesn’t come into it … I’m sure those around him will have had a word and I expect cooper himself will see the reaction (some of which is way over the top) and learn from it Many many ex riders have all said Cooper was at fault ranging from Steachmann, Silver , Stonehewer .. down to the likes of James Brundle…… I’m inclined to go with ex riders opinion rather than a fan who can be biased to his or her club Cooper clearly at fault … not malicious or dirty and hopefully he has took it all on board3 points

That's a ridiculous comparison. My choice to form a relationship with one girl when I was 16 was proven not be the best but I fail to see how that's related to racing a bike. Equally a 17 year old driver who's just passed their test may choose to drive around a bend on the opposite side of the road - when they kill others would you shrug it off, oh well they made a bad choice....? Every rider knows turning left on the straight, especially when another rider is so close, is a definite no no.3 points

I think you will find he is, see him at every home meeting, and he does a lot of away ones3 points

I was happy about my decision not to go as early as heat 2 when I saw the crash come up on Speedway Updates. Then I saw the BSN clip of the race on YouTube and was relieved, because I don't think I could have held my tongue at Rushen's deliberate act of idiocy. As for the late start, I obviously wasn't there but I'm fine with that kind of thing. Nobody sets out to arrive late, and as long as it's within a reasonable amount of time - 30 minutes is fine - it's best to have everybody who wants to see the meeting in through the gates. Those people who miss the first few races might not come back again. This Foxes team is rotten. we're now officially 25% of the way through the season and only the reserves can hold their heads up. Klindt is a disgrace and should be replaced by Kerr today, with Batchelor also shown the door in favour of someone on a similar average who might improve (or at least will provide some entertainment). They say "if you build it, they will come," but what they don't add is "if you build it on shaky foundations, it will fall down." That said, I'll be there on the 21st...3 points

Disappointing to see no victory parade for the Stars, very nice of the KL riders to come out and talk to us all after the meeting!3 points

I criticised it at the time, but just saw BSN’s highlight of it on social media and Staechmann is spot on; he makes a mistake, looks at Harrison and turns left coming off the fourth bend. A shocking move. Hate this part of modern day speedway; young riders are all over the place. Killeen is the same and cost Dan Thompson a large portion of last season because he couldn’t control his bike. The British U21 final ending with three of finalists crashing as they crossed the line sums it up for me. Best wishes and regards to Harrison and Scott because through no fault of their own, they needed medical attention and their evening was over. It’s such a dangerous sport as it is. Things like this are so unnecessary.3 points

Was an interesting match. KT has started the season very well. Rushen’s move was horrible, do that to the wrong person and he will get hurt either on or off track. Lidsey looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there. Batch and Klindt are passengers that wake up every now and again. Half decent performance from any of the aforementioned 3 and Foxes win.3 points

Hi all, I hope this is okay to post as a comment in here. I know many of you may have known my father as Jenga / j20hh. He sadly passed away recently after battling with various illnesses the last couple of months, but I know he was fairly active on here, and I thought it would be fitting to log into this account to announce it. I'm aware he was a bit of a marmite character on these forums, but he was on here exactly how he was in real life, a windup merchant with bad grammar. It's been fascinating to look back through his posts and comments, and more so the replies from other people. I can only apologise if he aggravated any of you with his comments, but know that they've brought a grieving son a great deal of joy, to have an online archive of my Dad just trying his best to wind people up over a sport he loved. Speedway and Workington Comets were a huge part of my Dad's life, and a huge part of my childhood, I'm sure I'll have to get down to Northside to honour his memory soon. If any of you happened to know him in real life, I'd be more than happy to pass on funeral details over a PM. Thanks3 points

There are age limits... he is a kid but he's be riding for a number of years now maybe not in such competitive races. Yes he does have to learn, but like I said it's Speedway 101 He should have been thrown out of the meeting... yet didn't even get excluded, bizarre!2 points

So after Ipswich fans spending the last couple of seasons complaining about how dangerous the Sheffield track is, they are all very quiet about dangerous riding by one of their team. 🤔2 points

Cooper quite clearly got that move badly wrong and was incredibly lucky to not be disqualified, as were the other two lads to not break bones. But let's not go OTT, he is young and still learning and I'm sure somebody will have had a word, and he himself will have realised his error. I actually think watching it from behind that he veered further left than he intended, looking over his shoulder doesn’t mean he was trying to nail anybody. It was an error of judgement. Let's not use this as a stick to beat one of our young prospects too hard. Out of interest what are the rules regarding guests for Rising Stars?2 points

How very 2026 a rider education programme 😂. I prefer old school, as I said earlier a punch on the nose wouldn't have been out of order! But more seriously, when was the last time a referee excluded somebody for dangerous or dirty riding? It is still a rule but just no used: 012.1.14 Foul, Unfair or Dangerous Riding The Referee shall immediately disqualify any rider who they consider indulges in foul, unfair or dangerous riding. If, in the opinion of the Referee, such conduct produces an advantage to the rider involved or affects the chances of one or more riders, the Referee may stop the heat and order a re-run. In certain circumstances the Referee may disqualify a rider for foul, unfair or dangerous riding from the remainder of the meeting. In this case no replacement facilities are allowed for the remainder of a team meeting. A Referees decision to declare a heat completed, or disqualify a rider from a meeting for foul, unfair or dangerous riding shall be deemed a statement of fact and no protest or appeal is permitted. Leicester 2 minutes on at 19:28, tapes up 19:30 👍2 points

Despite having disagreements with his father over the years, its sad to see a rider of his caliber not riding in the UK leagues this year. He seems to fall in the same category as Roynon, always in the wrong place at wrong time.2 points

Yes. How many other sports delay the start time as regularly as Speedway. I have already been to five meetings this season that has started late which is unacceptable for a professional sport.2 points

Sorry for your loss. Had a few run ins with him on here but at least he was no snowflake running off to the admins and mods every five minutes. Hope he gets a good send off.2 points

Well I have been to two prem matches this season Northamptons first and Ipswich BHM and they both started at least 30 minutes after the official start time, frankly it’s a mess and unfortunately it happens more often than not.2 points

@IainB arrived at 7.15 and there were no queues. So we are talking about late arrivals, not staff training. The sport is enough of a joke already in this country without this sort of stuff. It's not just Northampton either, tapes up at 7.30 should mean exactly that unless there are genuine problems due to an RTA or simialr.2 points

How about an education course or, a penalty points award for the referee for making such a shocking decision? The ref did not look at the video evidence before making his decision , despite the rule book saying he must do so if it is available. the excuse that the video evidence was not available whilst the riders were down snd receiving attention, is feeble. Just await those extra few seconds until the riders are sorted then, watch the video ??? I was right level with the incident but the fence restricted my view so I was not fully aware of the facts until I saw the video, when it became blatantly obvious that Rushen moved left, to block harrison. unaware of Rushen’s error, apart from this incident , I was mightily impressed with his nights work. What a talent. That said however, someone should sit him down, go through the video evidence with him and ensure he learns from this both riders could have been seriously injured and were very very lucky to be able to walk back to the pits1 point
-
That is all very well but the ref didn't even exclude him, so obviously he didn't think he did anything wrong. He is only 16 he is going to make mistakes, as long as he learns from them. Also maybe not have patchy grip when the younger kids are out. Even Ben Cook and Chris Harris were struggling with it a race later.1 point

Massive credit to Luke Harrison there. He could easily have been leaving that Track in a far far worse state. Air / Foam Safety Fences give these young riders a sense of invincibility that the old Fences never did. Therefore they think its hit the fence get up and get back on the bike. THAT'S GREAT in the sense NO ONE wants anyone to get hurt but someting along the lines of a "Rider Education Programme" needs to be considered. If a Referee or independent ex Rider after video Analysis considers a Rider errant or too hard / risk taker, theyshould be given penalty points on their Racing License and be made to atend a course at their expense and suspended if they reach a certain number of points It's no different to driving a Car on the Road! and happens in other forms of motor sports. Rushen is I believe a good lad, a potentially great talent, but someone seriously needs to sit him down and examine that with him in micro detail and show him the error of his ways. Someone from the GB set up maybe ?1 point
