  1. What a farce speedway will never lose its Micky mouse image. Wonder if the roles we reversed the ref would have made the same decision .The whole thing as left speedway looking very second rate and not looking like a professional sport . Just my opinion

  2. On that basis theres nothing to stop the line being a metre wide and by your definition being on it would still be on track... I'd say its quite clear - the chalk marks the inner edge of the track surface Therefore the track ends as soon as the line starts

  3. Isn't it refreshing to have had these two matches, each with packed stadiums, and no back-biting or moaning from any direction? Two big -- huge, by today's standards -- travelling supports, no complaints about refereeing or accusations about team tactics, just great backing for their riders and appreciation for the opposition. Well done everybody!

  4. But it isn't a statement of fact. And that is the issue .. No "factual" evidence has been seen or published, therefore the SCB shouldn't have come out saying that the rules were breached as, clearly so far, there is zero evidence to prove that "fact"... The ref made his decision based on the (inconclusive) evidence that showed that Cook "could" have ridden the white line and not crossed it.. Using the evidence available to him, he made the only decision he could, and should have... The SCB statement is, apart from how poorly written it is, quite baffling, and subjective, so not factual, and leaves both Pooles' victory, and the ref hanging out to dry somewhat...

  5. I disagree, it speciifically says the line is to be "on the track surface" That is what is written, not my definition. If the line was a metre wide it would have to extend across the shale and be part of the track to comply with the written rule, with the inner edge of the track being the meeting of the line & the infield. As I said, markings on the infield are specified in the following paragraph. The White line is stated as 'on the track surface' so how can it count as the infield?

  7. I went to Sheffield which was the first time ive been there for about 35 years and the 3rd and 4th bends were hundreds of Aces fans which created an atmosphere that was like nothing I’ve seen at club speedway for years…it made for a memorable meeting which in many ways was like a throwback for when the actual racing itself wasn’t fantastic but the crowd and the atmosphere made it into a great night…in many ways that was what made speedway great and it was fantastic to get a night like that in this day and age

  8. Your wording was "both wheels had gone on the line". Also, you've ignored the point I've made about the SCB Regulation being ambiguous. It doesn't say "both wheels at the same time", nor does it say clearly what constitutes the wheel(s) crossing the line. The ambiguity of the Regulation is exactly (ironically) why there has been so much debate, and why the referee made the decision, which - according to others with a different view of the ambiguity - was wrong. This latest SCB shambles proves that they must have been the brains behind VAR.

  9. Year: 1962 Reason: Financial issues, compounded by the loss of new signing Olle Nygren to ill-health and the fatal crash of rider Jack Unstead early in the season

  11. I'm an imposter obviously. But deflection won't help! You still haven't said what you believe the SCB statement confirms in detail and how that will be applied in the next occurrence of such a decision that a ref has to make
    2 points
  12. I don't agree with the SCB statement because it is woefully inadequate. It doesn't explain the rule we're all debating or the basis upon which it made it's decision. Or what might happen should a similar situation arise before the rules are rewritten, amended or "enhanced". If the SCB believe they can sweep this under the carpet by saying nothing, they are sadly mistaken. The sport might be in a mess but the fans and both clubs involved deserve better. In fact, everyone connected with the sport does.

  13. So, just as a reminder, the SCB statement says 'Following the 2nd Leg of the Championship Play Off Final on Wednesday 7th October 2026 between Poole and Scunthorpe, the Scunthorpe club lodged an appeal against the decision of the result of the Super Heat, where it was alleged that Poole Rider Zach Cook had breached SCB Regulation - • 012.1.11 Leaving the Track A rider whose machine crosses the inner edge of the track with 2 wheels must be disqualified unless, in the opinion of the Referee, the action was taken in the interests of safety for other riders or the rider involved was forced off course by another rider. Having reviewed the regulation as written, this has been breached, however due to the result being announced this was now a Statement of Fact and any appeal is inadmissible as per SCB Regulation 018.1.2 a) Therefore, the result stands as declared, and the Scunthorpe Promotion have accepted the decision.' So, what fact has the SCB declared? 'A rider whose machine crosses the inner edge of the track with 2 wheels must be disqualified unless, in the opinion of the Referee, the action was taken in the interests of safety for other riders or the rider involved was forced off course by another rider.' It has therefore confirmed that the machine crossed the inner edge of the track with two wheels. As it hasn't said how it has arrived at that conclusion it may well be that it decided that both wheels were over the centre green side of the inner edge. The reality is that you can't conclude what fact has been decided upon from that statement. If you have a different statement that validates your version of the facts I'd be very happy to see it. You also say 'You can't argue against facts' despite that being exactly what the SCB has done by saying the referee got it wrong despite it being a 'statement of fact' which makes an appeal inadmissible

  14. So in a discussion forum you want me to accept people's unsubstantiated opinions as fact & shut up because it doesn't suit your narrative? .... The SCB bottled it and if people interperate what I said as that a metre wide line that the SCB rules specifically say is on the track surface, could extend across the infield then maybe it's their eyes that need opening, not mine and I have a right to reply.

  15. People don't move on because the SCB has not properly explained its decision. So when a similar issue occurs ( and its not beyond the realms of possibility it will happen tomorrow) we will have the same argument again.

  16. The fact is that the regulations relating to this are very poorly written and completely ambiguous Your point about the inner edge is well made. The part of the wheels that have to cross the inner edge ( however that is defined) is not stated. No part of the wheel is actually in contact with the inner edge - the tyre is, and that is not even mentioned. What about the part of the wheel which is closest to the main part of the bike, and which will cross the line before the part of the tyre touching the line will? In whichever definition is accepted then how much of the tyre / wheel must cross the line? 1mm or the whole tyre / wheel in touch with the line. You can come up with any number of definitions. All the SCB needs to do is evidence its decision. Presumably referee training must cover that and should be able to be evidenced? If it can't be then that alone demonstrates an ambiguity

  17. Back that up with substance then. Not your personal opinion or Google AI. It may open my eyes....😁 I've backed my opinion with a quoted line from the SCB regulations. Every time I ask those who refute it to back up their opinions with fact, I'm met with silence and tumbleweed. As I said... if the line was a meter wide it would have to be on the raceable surface to comply with the SCB written rule.

  18. Good article in the Speedway Star this week re the challenges that Swedish Speedway are facing... Interesting comments re the way the UK has ran the sport is serving as something for them to ensure they don't do, with the reliance on sharing riders being a key way of working that they want to avoid... Similar issues face the Swedes as the UK, re the ageing fanbase and reliance on volunteering, with a wide level of capability to those who volunteer. The second leg of their final did bring in almost 9,000 so they, as was quoted, are not at UK levels yet, but they do fear that if not grabbed quickly, then a downward spiral could happen..

  19. Belle Vue’s crowd for the 2nd leg semi was very good and any additional numbers had we rode the 1st leg wouldn’t have been massive. Giving Ipswich the 1st leg helped them achieve a far better crowd than if they had taken a dead rubber 2nd leg. It’s been seen through the history of the club the fickle nature of their fan base with even keen beans on here saying they are picking and choosing this season. The bigger picture here is that more money came into British Speedway with us having the 2nd leg. Richard seems like a strong ally to the cause so to assist him for the good of his business seems a no brainier. I know there is an everyone for themselves attitude but that simply won’t work due to the precarious nature of our sport in this country.

  21. It's not that he won't be bothered, he and his team are so well organised that everything for the following season is in place before the end of the current season. He is always prepared to race here but British Speedway is too late which is the real reason why he has joined British clubs after his overseas commitments have finished. He may make it happen as World Champion but it's going to need everything laid on and some flexibility on clashes.

  22. I'm still trying to find where this is defined as a written rule. Having revisited the SCB regulations I note that in section 05.1.4 it states - on the track surface clearly marked lines, chalk is acceptable, are required: a) a continuous line to define the inner edge of the track circuit. The following paragraph then refers to the markings on the infield. If its on the track surface then surely it's part of the track and thus, if any part of the tyre is on the line, it's still on the track.

  31. A no brainer .. If you top the league then choose home for the semi first leg, and away for the final, (if you get there)... If you don't reach the final at least you had a decent semi final crowd.. Losing, or winning, an away leg first, by a large margin, just hits the second leg crowd numbers... Great to see two decent crowds for both the final legs... (Again)... I wonder if the promoters ever wonder why nowhere near the same number of their own followers turn up regularly through the season..

  35. Anybody know how many seats there are in the North Grandstand in total? Looks as if there are only a dozen or so left for sale. Must say I'm suprised but delighted. Can't help feeling Rob's point that we should have ridden the home leg against Ipswich first was spot on. Think more would have attended not knowing the likely outcome.

  37. Rumour seems to be that Eastbourne would ride in the Premiership if a deal is reached. Given the new rules on u21 riders rule there is a good chance Vinnie Foord could ride for the Eagles and a Champ team in 2027 (and possibly an NDL team as well)

  43. Nope, but bringing the white line in three metres all the way around would. Only way to pass is to practically put yourself in the fence like Barker does but he is as crazy as a rainbow trout in a car wash.

  44. Racing is only a small part of it though. The racing in the 70's was no better than now and if it was just what happens on track then Workington, Scunthorpe, Glasgow and BV would be bursting at the seams for every meeting. It's a jigsaw puzzle with loads of bits missing - irregular meetings, doubling up, guests, flimsy call offs, lack of variety, poor presentation, no atmosphere. Most people will want a professionally presented, VFM, enjoyable night out and that really shouldn't be difficult to deliver.

  45. I think you are right where are the riders going to come from? For me if speedway is to make a return to Arlington then maybe the powers that be should grant it an open licence to opereate in open meetings and challange matches with a team made up of riders from other teams on a day they are not racing for them (ie Sundays) This system worked for years at Rye House and was well supported by regular fans and racers alike. Everyone talks about what league they should enter if a return should happen but lets be honest no one knows what format the current leagues will look like from one year to the next let alone who will ride in them. The powers that be and possible promoters have to look at the teams that currently run under the NORA banner and maybe accept change is needed, 15 heats of 500cc racing is not the be all and end all of speedway these days an organised afternoon / evening of various racing is more likely to hold peoples interest every couple of weeks rather than "thats your 15 heats now bugger off and we will see you in a couple of weeks or maybe even a month for some more racing. Just my thoughts and maybe the wrong thoughts for many but I think unless things change in this sport Arlington could reopen for a two month or so season each year because there is no one left to race against.
