Rider insurance (or lack thereof)

The star has sat on the fence far too long so it’s refreshing to see a change. Richard Coleman was eloquent and damning in his view of the situation. It’s going to be very interesting to see how this pans out.
imo rob godfreys time as chairperson is up.  He certainly isn’t the man to take the sport forward however well meaning he is

trouble is who would want the job  ?

Maybe some within the Echo Chamber are actually now seeing what we the fans have seen for a long, long time, and, maybe, they realise, finally, that the writing is on the wall if they don't adapt, modernise, and change?

This close season, maybe, has been the huge wake up call some needed? Some who had previously refused to acknowledge the clear issues by sticking heads firmly in sands, given the sport delivered what they personally wanted out of it .

Including journalists who maybe have just gone along with the "there is no other way" narrative peddled, for too long, given many will be "mates" with some of the promoters, and know what they do and how much money they put in..

Speedway desperately needs critical thinkers, who can come in with a fresh pair of eyes and look clinically at the operating model and business plan, without being influenced by historical decisions and close relationships...

Dispite all this now being well and truly in the open, thanks to Mr Barker and todays speedway star, just seen a post from Ben saying he and others have still had no further communication from them in charge 😲. Wondering if the riders will stick together and take things further ??

Speedway doesn’t need this, we are already on the cliff edge

I agree. It doesn't appear to be the rider's fault though.

Changing conditions and, alledgedly, not notifying Riders of the changes seems wrong, especially where Insurance  is involved..

Read with interest the comments from the new Ipswich promoter, he had a few strong comments to make in diplomatic language but it was clear what he as saying - BSPA a shambles!

It doesn’t really matter who’s fault it is, it just needs sorting and sorting now, it’s a problem that should never raised it head in the first place but we are here and it needs a quick satisfactory solution

... In a sport that is so scared of jeopardy it's even removed it from the KO Cup!

I know it doesn't but if them in charge just go to ground not answering questions emails or keeping riders upto date. The riders may fo Something about it

Question:

If in previous years riders were being deducted £0.30 per race was this a flat rate per rider covered under an agreement covering the whole league?

If that is no longer the case and riders are responsible for their own insurance will lesser experienced riders be paying a higher premium than more accomplished riders?

That's actually 2 questions... 🤔

Ben Barker said it was a fiver per race...

And Charles Wright said the best quote he got was £1200 a month for personal cover...

The "old" insurance got the riders around £900 per month, without any minimum stay in hospital...

The main issie appears to be that the cover might be "fine" for "hobby riders" in Speedway and other disciplines, but those who earn their living riding Speedway can significantly be out of pocket with no income...

It was around £5.50 per race for everyone in top 2 leagues, a lot of riders had it paid by the club as part of their deal, I currently have 2 personal policy’s with the CICA which cost £350 and £240 per year, one is for bone break only and other is recovery and hospital stay

Not sure where I got £0.30 a race from 🤷‍♂️ But a fiver a race works out around £500 over the course of a 24 match season.

But whatever it was, I assume it was a flat rate whatever your ability? Meaning the better riders subsided the less experienced riders?

Seems a bit daft for the SCB to not be doing it anymore, they could even have skimmed £0.10 per race as an admin/arrangement fee.

I think you’ll find it’s nothing to do with the SCB

Well, as far as I am aware, they're the only organising body to have made any statement about the issue at all.

Correct. Perhaps that was because what seems to be the two main proponents of this arrangement have chosen - though goodness knows why - to say nothing in public so SCB felt the need to fill the void. You’ll need to ask them, though, why they chose to make it factual but very limited.

I'm still waiting for a reply from them as to why they docked Workington league points last year... as soon as I get that I'll follow it up with this 😂
