Aries
1 hour ago, SJA said: What this result show is that Leicester were correct in not signing Fricke. His average is to high for the six man limit below 40 points. As a result they have to run an inexperienced No6 who is going to find it tough at this level. Cooper is a great talent as shown by his paid max at Poole so I hope that riding at 6 does not hurt his confidence. I suspect its going to be another long old season for Lynn fans. 7 minutes ago, SJA said: At no point did I say Fricke was the problem. The problem is his high average and to accommodate it the compromises that have to be made elsewhere to get below the points limit. Well that’s exactly what you implied! Bagpuss
23 minutes ago, Spoofer said: Sorry Bagpuss but this post doesn't really make sense. Happy with the speed of the KL riders apart from Kvech whilst also saying that Ipswich were ordinary apart from 2. They were either fast enough to score points or they weren't. Needing a 5-1 from a tac sub at home to keep it close would suggest something very different to what you've posted. Granted I wasn't there watching so only a keyboard opinion from looking at the scoresheet. They were quite clearly fast enough to score points but scored 5, 7, 6, 3 and 5. Thats not a criticism, they collectively weren't great but weren't bad either and of course did more than enough to help win the meeting. I agree the tac sub made the scoreline closer than it really was and to reiterate I don't agree with home tac subs, I'd get rid. Ipswich never looked like not winning from heat 2 onwards really, Lynn got close a couple of times but it never felt like they could reel the Witches in. I am not a panicker at all and have become quite level headed about sport nowadays, we are all emotional about the teams we support but I find it easier to be objective as I've got a bit older. Lynn's team has potential and it is going to take a while for that to be realised but on last night's evidence speed isn't the issue. Some will think that the tail will stay long for the whole season and I understand the argument but I just can't see the two reserves not improving. We shall see. Ultimately if you gate poorly you ain't going to win many speedway meetings, its ever been thus and Lynn need to sort that out above all else. Ipswich have embarrassed them from the traps this week. You say you never said Fricke was the problem and then go on to explain exactly why Fricke IS the problem in the very same post. That hole looks deep enough, you can stop digging.
ouch
1 hour ago, Bagpuss said: A thoroughly deserved win for Ipswich, once again they were far sharper from the gate. Brennan was excellent and as a Team GB fan its great to see m, I think he can develop into a very good rider. Lynn just need to start better. Apart from Kvech who was on a lawnmower everyone had plenty of speed, Scott and Rushen had loads of pace but were yards behind into the first turn. They will get better and score plenty of points particularly at home. They were always going to take time to settle. Thought Paco had a decent home debut. The Witches were pretty ordinary below Brennan & King but always had the Stars at arm's length. Lynn need to be much better when the fixture is repeated next month. What a sad state of affairs our sport is in when we are calling on our riders to make better starts to win meetings. Wouldn’t it be lovely if the promoters saw their riders struggle to pass and next time prepared a racetrack.

You say “collectively they weren’t great”, but “Collectively” those ordinary looking scores all totted up nicely to a meeting winning result.

To go with such a high average No1 in a reduced league needs at least one five point potential future superstar being brought in... One who will destroy that average and average seven plus... I think back to Madsen, Janowski, Pawlicki etc who came over at reserve and rode like a fourth heat leader/best second string.. That is the level of rider they need, and that would cost big money, and, with Brexit issues probably lots of logistical problems...
Gavan
2 hours ago, Daniel Smith said: There's absolutely zero reason for any Stars fans to panic. I'd argue that the points scored is quite encouraging. Had Kvech scored 8-9 (expected) at No5 the result could easily have been reversed. Regardless of how they got the points, 4 from Castagna & 3 from Rushen is fine. Move the top 5 riding order to:- 1, Fricke 2, Castagna 3, Kvech 4, Harris, 5, Cook, it will be far more solid Castagna getting 4 is not enough at home … your number 2 should win heat 8 at home and at least get 3 other 3rd places If you are happy with your number 6 not beating an opposition rider at home then so be it … makes for a long season Rushen is a great young talent but if he is riding at 6 and only scoring 3 and your rising star can’t help bale him out then it will be a very long season

I actually thought he rode pretty well after heat 1 and given a few meetings on a track he had seldom ridden he could be solid. Cooper isn't going to fail to beat an opponent very often IMO but we shall see. Pointing fingers at riders one home meeting in is a bit early IMO.

That obviously benefits lynn and him. He may not be a Nicki Pedersen in the making but he also said coming to lynn to master the track made him a better rider, in fact it helped make him world champion
Fromafar
Kvech is just topping up his wages.Good night or Bad night he’s not bothered.Probably on a gaurenteed amount.

Yep I was thinking the same given he's young and a decent rider he really should be a top ten man when you look at the UK league standard, with his eyes shut and averaging eight plus a meeting. Most are not "forced" to build their team - they make choices. KL chose to go with a genuine #1 and overall a stronger looking top 4, which restricted their options for riders 5 & 6. Signing Fricke might also have restricted the budget. Ipswich knew they were without Doyle and Sayfutdinov, which did admittedly force the likelihood of a strength-in-depth line-up, but they still had to make some choices ... Hellström-Bängs being the best from my perspective, i.e. instead of Jordan Jenkins.

I don't think it's a lack of effort tbh, I personally think he's been vastly overrated by some fans due to him being handed a GP wildcard as part of a nationality box ticking exercise. Jan has even lost his place in the Polish top league and has dropped down a league this year after being part of Torun's title winning team in 2025.

cowboy cookie returns?
Two meetings in for the new era Witches & so far I’ve been impressed. On track the same professionalism off track things seem to have kicked on a bit with social media interactions. The early signs are that Mayfield will keep their word & build on the Louis legacy. I think we all know this season is probably as season of consolidation before moving forward again in 27. I can think of at least one young rider mayfield need to talk to for 27. Until then I think we are in for an enjoyable 26 & we might even surprise a few along the way.
