It’s the referee that has to be made accountable. it’s inconclusive the pictures that were shown. You can make any angle fit a narrative and so if it goes for you it’s great , if it goes against you then it’s rubbish. Pretty classless of Scunthorpe though not to accept their medals. Fans have made a long journey not to be acknowledged by the team. No but he did enough said
WookieboyDon
What a horrible and sad way to end an incredibly exciting climax to the league. Scunthorpe were clearly robbed by another joke of a decision by a referee. Paul Carrington bottled it and wanted to leave Wimborne Road in one piece. Unfortunately all it does is bring the sport into disrepute and British speedway loses even more integrity which it can ill afford to do at present. This is just another of a long line of absolute clangers being pulled by referees who either need more training or more help. It’s also hot on the heels of Christina Turnbull’s decision to let a heat go ahead last night when the riders were clearly in the wrong gates. It just looks amateurish. Scunthorpe are champions in my eyes. They put up a fabulous rearguard action to take it to the Super Heat led by Picko who has been on another level this season. For me, they DID pull off the impossible.
SteelShoe
I would like to hear why the ref made the decision he did. I can understand the Scunny frustrations as both of Cooks wheels crossed the white line. There was also a blatant tyre warming incident by a Poole rider in the first leg which went unpunished, there were clouds of smoke coming from the tyre it was that obvious. marko
All season long referees in this Country have been found to be incompetent, tonight was no different. When the headlines following a sporting contest are about the official/s rather than the event itself, you have a problem.

Neila
Well 40 minutes from the meeting end no pilots fans have been on celebrating, maybe they are embarrassed by calling themselves champions by cheating in both legs of the final 😜

Not only that but Cairns admitted he did it in a BSN interview afterwards. Said something like he was sorry but didn’t realize he wasn’t allowed to do it! Pinny
I hope Scunny take this legal. There is clear video evidence of Cook having both wheels off the track and the ref has seen this and still not acted upon it. A complete pussy, blind or just plain dumb? What was he scared of if he changed the decision, a couple of OAP's throwing their program boards at him or the infamous nonce shouting abuse at him? The result should be amended to list Scunny as champions and that bottlejob of a ref have his license removed. A sad, sad day for the sport.

Yes the referee got it wrong but it’s Poole who always benefit Cairns should have been excluded in leg 1 and Cook tonight …. Nobody has the bottle to penalise Poole
Spiderman1
Pool riders and manager should be wearing balaclavas , how can that happen with clear evidence, very unprofessional for a event in 2026, hang ya heads in shame Poole

LagutaRacingFan
If I was Scunthorpe's promoters, I would be on the phone to Nick De Marco KC https://www.blackstonechambers.com/barristers/nick-de-marco/ He is the best in the business. Scunthorpe are going to lose out on thousands of pounds of missed sponsorship over this result. Edited 1 hour ago by LagutaRacingFan

You may as well show him going down the straight Scunthorpe need to appeal

Gavan
It’s so noticeable that usual Poole numpties haven’t come on to gloat like usual I think they know they cheated in not one but both legs Scunthorpe have to appeal and Poole should be stripped of the title

According to Howe he was on the phone to the ref during the heat so surely the ref should have taken more time to make a decision so important, can't make the excuse they didn't know about it. Steve Shovlar
Just got back and what a fantastic advert for speedway. For the second year on the bounce Pirates win it with a superheat. Doesn’t get more thrilling than that. A huge crowd as expected making a cacophony of noise cheering on the Pirates against a resilient and determined Scunthorpe team, strengthened with the inclusion of Jordan Jenkins and a revitalised Palm Toft. And who says there’s no passing at Wimborne Road? Heat 15 must go down as a classic with Pickering throwing his body and soul into keeping Scunthorpes dreams alive after heat 14 when Pirates nearly blew the title away with some abject riding. Plenty of taking points. Heat 2 and the crash which put Ablitt out of the meeting. Looked like he had clipped Lightcaps back wheel but ref ruled it unsatisfactory. Made no odds as poor Nathan had to withdraw. And then Kerr coming down when it looked like Jenkins had clipped him. Louis out for the meeting and now announcing to everyone he is calling it a day. All the best in your retirement. Pirates gradually clawed it back and should have sewed in up in heat 14 but those the breaks. Heat 15 was a real thriller taking us to the golden heat. No mistakes this time as Cook saw off Pickering and Lawson made sure he stayed ahead of Palm Toft. Stadium erupted. Unbelievable scenes of joy. A rumour went around that Cook had gone over the inside line but it was quickly dismissed by the ref with no conclusive evidence. Pirates celebrated and a few minutes later the Scunthorpe riders and management came out to collect theirs to warm applause. David Howe said he would rather had lost by 30 than a golden heat but in the end Scunthorpe to a rider, manager and owner must feel very proud. They were written off and took the Champs to 31 heats. Absolutely astounding effort.
