No, simply a "Good news" story that Scunny continuing to invest in their stadium and thanking the people responsible for that.

Boring GP? I thought all that was needed was 'star' riders to make exciting racing and the crowds come flocking back?

    Closing down sale here.

I am beginning to agree especially when each televised match portrays a sport that has a couple of hundred elderly people still following. I was a firm advocate of keeping speedway on TV but the promoters have no idea how to utilise it to best effect. So, yes, perhaps it is time to end it when the current contract runs out. Before taking on this contract they should have jointly agreed to open the doors for £10 and make an effort to fill it up. Are the sponsors over the moon with the coverage they get and so urge Buster et al to continue with it?

£20,000?? Thats over 1300 paying adults (taking account of VAT) Are there that many each week anyway to make that possible even if it was made free on the night? Charging full admission will mean many hundreds will stay at home and watch it on TV and is a sure way of maximising that shortfall.

There is a place for speedway on tv every other sport seems to do ok it just proves that the promotorsdeal not very good at negotiating a good deal just an opinion

Broadcasting these events from an empty stadium shows the sport in a bad light. Surely the promoters want the casual viewer to think that Speedway is still popular in this country. A big crowd might encourage a few people to return to the sport, or some newbies to give it a try.

Did he spend the PILE he made when crowds were much more substantial? Whatever he did with it, he clearly did not re-invest much of it in Poole Speedway especially the track. "Love the sport" is the cry of all the current promoters - I don't think so! Short termist, grab the cash ( when there is some ) and run. They cannot be losing hand over fist as some claim, no-one would do that for more than a season. You would sell up for 30 bob ( £1.50 for the younger members ) just to get rid of the debt liability. Do you really expect us to believe that they truly feel that the UK sport can be turned around and have few spaces on the terraces. Not going to happen under the "forward thinking - more of the same please" BSPA.

It was a GP, and you expect tough racing. Leaving very little room, but not barging a rider into the fence.

Why dreadful? Apologies if I missed these embarrassing decisions but Prague boreathon is a ‘fast forward’ luxury. Only contentious incident, as I recall, was if Fricke had gone down Madsen would probably have been excluded.

Prague this year was my first GP other than Cardiff and yes you're right Steve, it's a great opportunity. Cheap flight from my local airport and 3 days in a beautiful city with lovely weather as a bonus after weeks of cold and rain at home! :-)

The thing is, unless I’ve missed it, it doesn’t say anywhere that you have to leave racing room. That is just a respectful, gentleman’s agreement. If max goes down then Leon goes as primary cause just like max did last week because that is the rule but if you stay on and fail to read the move then I guess you takes your chances. Its a real 50/50 but personally I don’t think Madsen does a lot wrong. Ungentlemanly maybe, but not outside of the rules. Pedersen has been castigated on a number of occasions for things that were just tough racing moves.

You sometimes have to ask what you need to do to get excluded? Football is always criticised for the play acting but if Fricke had gone there, Madsen would have been excluded. It’s the sort of think that Pedersen would have been castigated for, or a habit Lingren seems to be comfortable with lately Ive been delighted at Madsen’s progress this year but very disappointed in that sort of life threatening behaviour.

Oh I know people all right. I know people who stopped going because the last time they went the away 'team' included five guests and R/R. I know people who stopped going because they supported Wednesday and Saturday teams but now have to go Monday and Thursday. I know people who packed up when they saw how easy some promoters will gang up to try and put a couple of rival tracks out of business. I know a couple who packed up because they saw riders riding for opposing teams one day then in the same team the next a division lower. There's other reasons people I know have packed up going too but hey, in your little world all people have stopped going because of poor teams. Fix that, heaven knows how these better teams will be paid for, but get these riders back and all will be well! At least I concede a few probably stopped going because of poor teams (some who know you, apparently) but you seem to have a blinkered view where other motives are concerned. And, since a good proportion of speedway fans in this country watch all three levels of the sport , why would the concept of 'poor teams' bother them unduly as long as the teams were reasonably well matched and conducive to good racing.

The real frustration is that we have been here before. I believe the late fifties and early sixties was speedway's other tipping point. Thankfully the British shale scene was saved by the introduction of the one big league. Three years later we had the introduction of the new second division and tracks seemed to open instead of close. But, especially now, whereas we actually had people with the nouse to rescue a sinking ship back then, I think today's so-called promoters are too busy saving their belongings in their personal cabin and haven't seen the wider picture. Almost sixty years ago it was men in suits that looked the part. Nowadays I feel the sport is being steered along by a bunch of chancers. It is a mystery how they've managed to run businesses to have the money to plough into the sport, and yet are quite willing to boast how much they are happy to lose playing at speedway promoting. It is a bit of a shipwreck right now. Comparing the two, we recovered from the fifties. I don't have confidence in recovering from this demise.

There is also a small hotel only a matter of about 200 yards from the stadium, the Park Hotel. There is a car park at the stadium run by the GRA who make a charge of £2.50, but free parking is available at the One Stop shopping centre opposite the stadium. Parking there is normally limited to 3 hours, but this restriction is waived on speedway nights from 7pm onwards. Hope you enjoy your visit.

As this was the original thread posters should use this one, I’ve no idea why a 2nd thread has been opened up. Pointless & a tad childish IMO.

There is a Travelodge about half a mile from the stadium near to Perry park. It's actually opposite Wickes (sandicliffe ford garage, may be Bristol st now?). i would imagine there is parking at the hotel. It will take you 5-8 mins to walk to the stadium from the hotel depending on how quickly you walk. £16.50 in to see the match and £3? a programme? See you in July!

Was you in there when Nigel Leaver(sure it was him)done a collection because he had blown an engine, riders weren't so well off then.In exchange for people putting money in,his wife/partner done a bit of a strip.I soon got my money in the glass. Seriously though had some great nights in Champs bar, then food in Lynn then back home to Wisbech.Remember ending up round Henka's once for an after party, party. That was when Simon was about 2/3yrs old.I could waffle on for ages about all that stuff, but i did make a lot of good friends from those days.

Why did this contenders thread go cold? However I still stand by what I said on the 27th March 2019 "The two Stand out teams for me are Glasgow and Leicester and both should be a shoe in for a top four spot" Regards THJ
