2027 terrestrial tv maybe?
Daniel Smith replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Nobody, especially new fans would give a 💩 Doubling-Up is a nonsense argument in making the sport look 'Mickey Mouse'. There's no promotion / relegation so there is zero 'conflict of interests'. Guests have been and always will be a necessity of this sport. British Speedway doesn’t have the finances to run Polish type squad systems so that's a no no. This sport has far more important problems than some riding in multiple leagues. As far as I'm concerned, riding in the Premiership & Championship is no different to riding Premiership and Elitserien, it's still 2 different leagues with no conflict on each other. -
2027 terrestrial tv maybe?

Great idea if very limited or no doubling up & a restriction on guests. Imagine the round up/ highlights where Chris Harris rides for Kings Lynn in the premiership then appears for Glasgow in the championship with a couple of guest appearances for Sheffield & Poole. Would very quickly show just how micky mouse the sport currently is. -
The Eastbourne riders had it dialled in, I remember that, especially on that first and second bend so most of the passing was done by the home riders, if you could ride Eastbourne you could ride anywhere, very technical track indeed, even back in the day it tended to be slick because you often had to back the bike in, but there was grip too, they had riders like Andrew Silver and Adam Shields, neither were riders who would stick it on the kerb.

Matt Ford stepped away from the BSPL Board when he moved to France to renovate the chateau. Danny Ford took his place but notified his intention to resign at the end of the 2025 season and eventually resigned at the delayed AGM in January 2026.(It was taking up too much of his time when he was newly married, planning to start a family, and as the youngest promoter at the time was doubtlessly not being listened to!!!) The BSPL board now is mainly Premiership promoters, Bates, Lemon, Lyon ( + Morris) plus Godfrey and Campbell. Matt Ford did have a spell as Chair of the old BSPA back in the day.

Interesting to read the article in the star today - right at the end the name Harry Redknapp was included in the thanks for getting a key door opened!! I personally think a 1 hr / 90 minutes weekly highlight show for the Premier and Championship with as suggested a rider or two in the studio with maybe the odd live match where we expect a decent match or the playoff / cup finals would be a good way to start something. That way things can be presented much more positively than a rain off or a 60-30 thrashing with zero passing. Would also be helpful if Robert Lambert would win the WC this yea then they have something else to focus / bring attention too! - Today

Proof that an audience is still around for British Speedway. TNT was just a hindrance to the Sport, It's a dead channel that changes it's name more times than Katie Price changes her appearance. Behind a pay wall as well and barely anyone who isn't already signed up to the channel would take out a subscription just to watch British Speedway once a week for 6 Months of the year.

Has at least one of the owners not been on said management board for at least the last 5 years? By my count, at least 6 clubs gone in that time, yes Northampton have come in (at a huge, forced, financial gamble) but the quality, participation, engagement, crowds, riders have all disappeared due to being so disillusioned with the sport. So yeah, pull the ladder up jack, we're winning meetings on our tarmac track and getting some decent crowds. That's all well and good but they won't have many teams left to race soon enough.

I would assume what Coleman has to say will affect everyone? 🤷♀️ South Coast derby in the prem though, right? 😉👀
-
All this talk about Mr Coleman on the Poole 2027 topic?? WTF?? In the meantime who is up for an away trip to Eastbourne in 2027 in a proper South Coast derby?😉😉😇

ahh well all is well in the world of British speedway then....how on earth do you think last nights entertainment will attract or appeal to anybody watching/going for the first time?.....the average age at last nights meeting must of been over 50, so please don't come back with Poole are doing something right.

UK Speedway would benefit from a one hour round up, magazine type programme each week, with a couple of riders in attendance.. Making them personalities and identifiable... Mix in a few of the best heats from around the country, and a "what's on where?" over the next seven days...

Seems very encouraging and the reasons behind not showing the Premiership play offs makes sense but given that the final tends to draw in the crowds I would have hoped that an edited version could be shown on ITV as a round up to the season and whet the appetite for 2027. Also interesting to read Phil Lanning’s views on the subject. This also has some merit with a weekly round up rather than live meetings but the main thing has to be to get the sport in whatever format on a free to air channel to reach the biggest potential audience.

That's what happened on Sunday , tuned in to Canal Sports to watch him race and he only had two rides a last place and a second for 2 pts but prob earned more for that than he would getting a maximum for Redcar and some.
