If Ace could take the bulk Lee needs to lose, the two would both be set fair.

Quite a lot of riders have good sponsors large and small all add up, these are used to cover machinery costs, travel money is paid by the promotion home and away, so points money is the riders pay, if you are the better rider scoring 8 - 10 points they could have a pay packet well of over £1000 a meeting, twice a week 25 meetings is 25k or more in just over 6 months, I have to work 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year for that figure. Yes the young riders have to start at the bottom on less money, but how many are full time speedway riders ?? Not having a go at the riders, it's a dangerous sport but they have to be reasonable when talking to clubs, just because this is in the comets section it applies to all speedway clubs. Thoughts anyone ?

Expert on Glasgow finances now. What next.!!!

Thankfully for us he knows absolutely nothing and I mean nothing.

It’s probably down to finances. Glasgow 2023 cost an absolute fortune and with not very large crowds probably cost Faccena a small fortune. Bringing in Tarasenko would have cost an arm and a leg and perhaps now Faccena has won a title he is going to cut his cloth to fit the clubs income. That 2024 team would cost way less than 2023.

Riders can "demand" what they want, but the promoters don't have to pay it, if they feel that the "demand" is excessive.

How many years do you need to get Starkey on good machinery.

Tbh, I don't think that's relevant. Fans need to decide if they think the price is value for money. If they don't think it is & stop attending, it won't matter if the promotion knows more than the fans i.e how much it costs to put meetings on. I'll use Justin Sedgmen as an example, I've seen interviews, where he explains how expensive Speedway is, with tuning, travel expenses etc as a reason for riders deserving more money. But that's not how a business works - a promotion can only pay out, what comes in (unless they are willing to lose money). If clubs only get 500 attending matches, the riders wages should be based on this income (plus sponsorship), riders can't just demand more money to pay for the very best equipment!

As long-time speedway journalist John used to be a regular on the 'Years Gone By' thread, I thought it best to make a quick post on here. John sadly passed away on October 14 at the age of 91. There is a thread on 'General Discussions', so I don't know if it would be possible to combine the two on here.

Watching him trying to get round Oxford would be good for a laugh if nothing else. If you pay him per point he'll be pretty cheap

This 100% Blaming the riders for asking for too much and then being paid it, is like blaming McDonald's for why you are fat

Myself and the misses both said early June/July ish that he was scoring himself out of a ride for 2024, he's gone and done a Kemp, (2023) his high average was built riding at 6 and only dropped slightly at 2. With regards to the quote in the paper, I'm calling that a little bit of nonsense. With team building reduced to 38 your number 3 is going to be around a 6 average is Anders at heat leader level yet? Bet he's glad all those times that Richie Lawson let him pass when they were on a 5-1, 3-3 during league meetings cause its just cost him his job.

Didn't have many issues as I remember in his first spell. If hadn't broken his wrists in British final think would've won league that season

The first meeting he missed had nothing to do with him. His dad was not very well and had to leave. what is a 15 year old supposed to do ? Stay there by himself at the other end of the country, or get a lift home with his dad ? He was on the track walk so it showed he was going to ride. Secondly he was desperate to ride in the u19’s as he had a good chance of a rostrum place and maybe even a win. Well you will be pleased to know the technician managed after 3 days of trying, he sorted out the issues with the van and managed to get it opened. As I said if you thought you could of done it quicker I’m sure they would of paid for you to fix it, but I think you will find it was nowhere near as easy fix as you made out. Let’s hope he scores maximum hauls in all his matches this weekend as I’m sure you will have something else to write about him. Hopefully something nice for a change.

Spot on Cheese .. The thing that makes me laugh or cry .. Who has ever heard of someone putting you out of business and making your asset virtually worthless but then setting up a company the next day with the same people . its just insane . Swindon Fans don't want Osboune or Russell running the club or the ones looking or not looking in there case for a new site . Russell needs the Licence taken off him with immediate effect .

No wonder him and Kemp put there eggs in the polish u24 basket nobody wanted either of them until injuries occurred they both improve there average and could perhaps be unemployable crazy really.

Don’t you think his dad has tried this ? It’s not like a Vauxhall Astra car you know ! It’s a very high spec Mercedes AB race van with a high security locking system to stop people breaking in. Maybe give him a call if you think it’s easy ? They are speaking directly to Mercedes and locksmith’s to solve the issue. They are having the whole electronic key system replaced today at a considerable expense so hopefully they will be able to race at the weekend. The only other option is to cut the doors off. I don’t know why people like yourself like having little digs at a 16 year old lad ? When you obviously don’t know what extremes they are going to, to get it fixed I just wish people like you would speak to his dad (very nice guy) instead of putting crap on here you know nothing about.

Boris put a message on a bus saying how much better off we'd be if we left the EU and a lot of people bought that!!

Maybe should have typed this in bold... A true font of knowledge and someone who truly lived through the halcyon days of the sport and covered it too... Always good value on here to get a debate going, and often, stirred up..! RIP John...

No, Monarchs have seniority over everyone else for Friday nights, and to be correct its North Lincolnshire, with Lincolnshire being an entirely different county and Boston Barracudas long gone.
