  1. Hopefully the only travelers will be fans from miles around coming to witness the rebirth of the comets

  2. In my opinion the Premiership is too small, it offers too little variety of teams.

  3. As the season is about to start, I would like to wish all clubs a good season, whether they finish first or last. Good crowds, great racing, nothing serious on the injury front, plenty of controversy, great racing, last heat deciders, with all clubs making it through to the end of the season without threat of closure. Time for the sport to grow, bring in new fans, entice old clubs like Swindon, Eastbourne and Workington back to the Championship, and bring hope to Coventry fans that something might happen soon. In the next couple of weeks the banter will start, arguments will erupt and the mud slinging will be in full swing. I am as guilty as the next fan. But remember, we are all fans of the sport and in this current political climate, survival of all clubs is paramount. Let’s all look forward to a great new season with the rightful winners of the Championship after a titanic battle full of drama and excitement. Bring it on!

  7. Well done Birmingham. Great team which should be challenging. new air fence and completely newly laid track. New team sponsor. The promotion have ticked everything single box. just need the crowds to come.

  9. And I am pointing out that his results more recently than what you are. Add to the fact that he won the British title beating arguably the best rider in the Premier League on his own patch. The Adam Ellis that rode 2019 was a much improved rider in 2021. Lets face it who else of that quality could have Birmingham have signed.

  10. You could also add that there are zero new British riders into the CL this year. Potentially Ablitt but he had been signed to Eastbourne before it went belly up. The plan was a long term conveyor belt offering chances to graduating riders instead its back to the usual with overseas untried imports and no vision of a long term plan.

  11. Put simply, the 2nd Div is too strong.. There is every need for that league to be the stepping stone to the top level in this country, and giving those NL heat leaders a chance at reserve.. Unfortunately the 2nd tier rules the roost and gets the best of both worlds, ie Div One heat leaders and experienced reserves... Without the cost of paying out for the riders the level of Doyle, Fricke etc..

  13. Right next to the track and there should be enough room to fit 200/250 cars on it (as long as the track doesn't get any bigger) and there will be an overspill car park for around 500 vehicles within 500 metres then within another 1000 metres there will be another couple of hundred spaces so the last problem anyone should have is with parking. 14. Because Birmingham probably don't have the influence or Money to make sure rules are made up on the spot for them like some

  15. It won't be a guest, As Adam hasn't rode for Birmingham yet they don't get a facility the only option the Brummies would have is to sign someone on a meeting by meeting deal or use and unattached NL Rider. Morley is probably the best option that was willing to race for 1 meeting.

  17. I think the playoff final will be a repeat of the 1989 KO Cup Final Berwick v Poole and we know who won that
    2 points
  18. Poole above Glasgow?! Feel that Glasgow a bit stronger but I would have Leicester, Poole and Glasgow in the top 3. Keep changing my mind on what order though!
    2 points
  19. that is quite correct but there isn't the cash to strengthen it. No cash needed to reign in the strength of the second division with the bonus of NL prospects getting a chance. Also IOW and Mildy might be tempted to rejoin a cheaper division. The knock on should be 2 more members of the top div to 8 so more rides in the division and a severe curb on DU/DD and eventual ridding of it.

  22. Well not at Northside it will be Siloth Sea Washed Grass all round and in the centre green... supplied and laid by Cumbria Turf... I even caught Captain Comet planting trees and saplings last week round the outside... hopefully it will all look very natural once it's done... Regards THJ

  23. Tell that to all the fantasists on the other threads talking about reopening Bradford, Eastbourne, Swindon, Reading, Coventry etc etc On the other hand, do we want to compound the shortage of riders with an influx of non-riders? Riders who appear on paper but not in the flesh? It may be hard on Birmingham, but if that stance taken by the BSPZzz is correct then it's the right thing for the sport.

  24. Hi a4poster, You should be able to select ‘SIGN UP’ from the menu in the top right corner if you have already signed up for a free account. You don’t need to buy a gift card and gift to yourself. Alternatively, you can click on any one of the scheduled live streams and it will give you the option to sign up directly from there. Sorry to hear you have experienced the site freezing. We’ve had very few people come to us with issues, but this is certainly something I’d like to look into further for you and may be something as simple as your browser. Would you mind contacting us at support@exstreammedia.co.uk or messaging us directly from one of our social media pages? We can sort your issues for you straight away once we can look you up on our system. Many thanks, Jitendra Duffill, BSN

  27. Terrific Youtube content from Lee Complin there. I'm not a fan of social media but it is exactly what the general public are after. There's a good backstory there regardless of whether or not his comeback goes well. Really professionally done and great exposure for sponsors.

  28. Thanks Taps. Got to say the comments seem extremely harsh on Cam looking at those photos. I was one of his biggest critics a few years ago when he came back in terrible shape, but he looks absolutely fine here..

  30. Not disagreeing with you there, the championship clearly needs 'weakened' however, in the current state and the current team building rules, most of them riders would be way out of their depth, I saw that last year with Archie at Newcastle, he's probably done more lap of that track than anyone in the Championship and he rides it no problems, but he was just not ready at all. But if you weaken the league structure, fans will just complain and stop going. What really needs to happen is the top 3 or 4 teams from the Championship need to move up into a slightly watered down Premiership and the Championship needs to be 7 or 8 smaller clubs (Berwick, Newcastle, Scunthorpe etc...) who can bridge the gap between the NL and the PL. The whole sport needs a restructuring

  31. Ellis and Nielsen had to be at Sheffield for 2pm for their Press and Practice day which was unfortunatly arranged before the Brummies announced their P&P plans for the same day.

  32. Lack of variety of teams, riders, competitions etc. No Test Matches, local derbies, star-studded open meetings. What is there to whet the appetite week after week?.

  33. No no your right we’ll devalue and weaken the second tier in the off chance that in 3-5 years time the almighty Premiership clubs who are all doing so fantastically well at the moment will deem someone who would have gotten their chance anyway good enough Tbf I guess the way it going it’s probably the only way your team would manage to field a 1-7

  34. When did Claus vissing get a British passport?!?

  35. I would speculate £1,500 per meeting with no obligation to do heat 15.

  36. Imports will always happen but the worrying figure is no new Brits into the CL this year. How could the PL get any stronger? It is a financial struggle as it is. Unless Sweden goes pop and riders want to return the level will maintain but at least the calibre of riders is closer. The spread of rider levels in the CL from top to bottom has been vast for the past few seasons. Its only closed up a bit this year as the lack of heat leaders available means that the reserves signed by most teams are 4ish pointers rather than 2.00 making it more of a closed shop and harder to break in.

  38. Good job that the server isn't hosting the Microsoft, or Facebook, or Amazon web sites isn't it? They'll be blaming the Birmingham web site for overloading the servers next, won't they? Just like they did in 2013.

  40. it was chaos at Birmingham last year when they "lost their signal", fortunately I had cash on me and got in using that... also some clubs (Leicester!) add a CC surcharge

  41. This stance by the BSPL seems very harsh on Birmingham if true, given that they had a takeover to sort out before they could even think about signing riders. And when did this ruling appear and come into force? It would have made sense years ago but not when there's an obvious shortage of riders like there is at the minute

  47. Was a good watch. I know it was brought up but he does need to drop some weight. 10 years off a bike and having the physique of a bodybuilder aren't great early signs. Do hope Lee has a good return to the sport though. Box office rider who always gave 110% and was fantastic round Owlerton.

  48. We are absolutely delighted to welcome Ian Barney to Smallbrook Stadium on August 11th for the NORA British Upright Championship. Mark your diary, book your ferry, make a weekend or week of it and join us for the biggest upright engine meeting for decades and after party. Upright Racer Ian Barney Primed For Smallbrook Action Already seeded to the NORA Upright British Speedway Championship Final in August, Ian Barney’s name is instantly recognisable to the sports followers so Championship Co-ordinator Lee Coleman caught up with Ian to get his thoughts on visiting the Island for what will be a big night of racing. Ian said, “First of all, I am very pleased to be involved in the NORA British Upright Championship. We have had the Veteran Championships at Lydd in Kent for many years which I have raced in and enjoyed very much and now I’ve been given the chance to ride in a British Championship again on the Island! I will be riding a Jawa machine which is currently being prepared but will be finished shortly. Speedway for me started back in 1977 at Mildenhall and I loved riding there. During my time at Mildenhall my Dad spoke to Brian Clark who opened the door at Peterborough to offer ‘after the meeting rides’ which I did as soon as I possibly could. I was over the moon as I supported Peterborough Panthers from the age of eleven. I worked my way through from raw novice to heat leader, including winning the 1984 National League Riders Championship in front of my home crowd. I loved my years at Peterborough. I also enjoyed doubling up with Kings Lynn during these times. Sadly, all good things come to an end, or so I thought. A few years later I was asked to ride in the Conference League which I enjoyed just as much as I did in my heyday. I had a few years away but recently was tempted back which brings us to present day. This coming season I will be riding with the London Celts in amateur events which will help me keep race sharp and I also have other meetings in the pipeline which I hope will be great preparation for the British Upright Championship at the Isle of Wight. I will be giving it my best shot. There is going to be a very strong field of riders which will provide a highly competitive meeting which I am pleased to be involved in. I hope there will be plenty of support this coming season for the Wightlink Warriors as they are doing the sport the world of good. My thanks to Barry, Martin and Lee for the opportunity to race at Smallbrook, I can’t wait!” Meeting Co-ordinator Lee Coleman was equally excited saying “I am so pleased Ian Barney will be racing for the chance to win NORA British Upright Championship. When his request to enter appeared in my messages box I realised pretty quickly we were capturing the imagination of established names within the sport. Plus, we again have another Championship winning rider in the line up! I know he is preparing a bike especially for the Upright events, he is meticulous in his preparation and I’m sure Smallbrook will really suit him. Having watched him race through the years I know he will be giving 100% to support the event, both on and off the track. Ian is a great addition to what is a very competitive line-up of seeded riders.” The image, courtesy of Kevin Goodacre Photography and Speedway Star magazine, shows Ian immediately after his National League Riders Championship success.
