Good hour long chat with ex-Swindon Robin Barry in the Asda cafe in north Swindon today Some great stories about Fundin, Briggo, Mauger. Fundin was his favourite rider. Rode with Briggo at number 2 for Swindon at Wembley. against Lions. 4-2 in one heat, Briggs, Fundin, Duke. Said Pete Munday and Bernie Persson were very hard riders. Briggo aggressive, Mauger nice bloke. Was saying first went to a meeting at Swindon in 1962, Fundin, Briggs, Craven, Moore riding off 20 yard handicaps. Very bad injury in 1971 in Rhodesia affected career. Really nice guy. Rescued a Blunsdon turnstile for the Speedway Museum at Paradise Park.6 points

Wonderful theory, I was there on the day of the photo, the tyre packing marks are my handy work , when a photo is taken on a phone it is date and time stamped, so I think you are very wrong! Just checked Oct 31st at 16.29. Does that clear it up for you?4 points

Teams didn't get an extra point for winning by more than 6. They lost a point for winning by less than 6. That's what was taken away. It was 3 for winning by more than 6. Now it's 3 for winning by any margin. It was a good system. They should have kept it.3 points

Bring back the 2 legged bonus point. Kept meaningless meetings interesting and even if team getting soundly beaten has something to race for.3 points

May have got 6 to 7 or maybe 8 hundred in had the team been any good from the start3 points

They also did a great job of renovating the stadium as well, which had fallen into quite a state of disrepair. In many respects it's better than what it was like before the closure.3 points

Hey, he got 1+1 at Armdale. He scored 0 at Berwick! And those were his only away rides, apart from maybe the Grand Final at Poole, and I don't have a programme for that fixture. But at home, he scored 49 + 13 in 6 meetings.2 points

There's a fan vote at the moment on whether Rob Godfrey should resign, it's currently at 87% that he should do one... be interesting to see if they implement that or not2 points

He would ride for Poole as he's a Poole asset. Of course depending on the 1-7s Poole may not need to strengthen?!2 points

This, and the events towards the end of the season, just show how bad things are.2 points

after the dodgy exhaust ban they re manufactured the exhausts to similar to what he had done but he had holes on each side blanking plates but were not aligned so you couldn’t see right through and so air would leave engine a bit quicker and help the engine breath and not overheat too much the FIM just put the holes in line so you could see through the it so at least he helped in the redevelopment lol2 points

https://britishspeedway.co.uk/championship/cjl-final-next-spring/ Next season then as an inter league challenge. Except it won’t be as Poole will have to “strengthen” or Leicester “weaken” for it to work, so once again British Speedwsy manage to pull a turd out of the hat and not a rabbit.2 points

Oxford Lambert & Bewley graduating to world class status BSN Workington's 'new' track Brennan, Flint, Edwards and Jenkins all making strides as FTR's Struggling after that!2 points

The positives for me, despite the BSPL: The quality of the racing on the Leicester Speedway track, the best it's ever been! Rob Lambert & Dan Bewley's elevation to world class riders The return of Oxford, went down for the Leicester match and was probably my best Speedway experience of the season! BSN has been a massive plus this year for the fan of Speedway in general, being able to watch Speedway from around the country at a reasonable price, it'll be interesting to see what they charge next year, if they signed a multi-year deal with the BSPL or whether BSPL will try and cash in In fact as usual the Speedway on track I have seen this year is as good as it's always been, especially with the kids coming through, it's only the organistion this year which has badly let the sport down2 points

Richard Lawson is probably the best value rider in the league on his average, usually double figures home or away.2 points

That’s very true and I was one of the dissenters. He won me over with his attitude and professionalism and after having a few short chats with him in the pits, he came over as a likeable guy who had time for the fans.2 points

Welcome back to the premiership . Good to see a team move up. your top 2 if correct are pretty solid and will do a good job for you1 point

Great ride by Cook who was hugely impressive all night, but Worrall suffered a puncture on that last lap, his rear tyre was as flat as a pancake going over the finish line.1 point

But I think I agree with crescent girl, other than the four point result (away win by 7 or more) which is exceptional, all the other scenarios involve three points being won or shared....in effect an away loss by six or less meant pinching a match point off the home team and provided more last heat deciders. As an aside I'd get rid of tacticals for the home team, if you are that far behind on your own circuit then hard luck.1 point

I wouldn't mind if they did a third year without any changes... What annoys me is the fact that they made such a fuss about how good they are and how things would change only to find out they had bugger all idea what they were taking on to run.1 point

Would love to see what the powers would do in that situation……..makes me want it to happen…… What an absolute farce…….1 point

It's still a nonsense Lisa, you must agree. It's nothing more than a preseason inter league challenge that used to happen few years ago. I'm assuming Poole will be allowed to strengthen to the prem points limit based on their teams converted prem averages?1 point
-
I saw no rhyme nor reason for the rolling average to be reduced to ten meetings, which allowed imbalances galore. It should be at least twenty matches, or even more. I'd also like to see the original match scoring, where the home team got a bonus point if they won by more than six, reinstated. Giving an extra point to the visitors only isn't a fair shake of the dice.1 point

I also think although allegedly there was only 350 for Leicester, even though we were getting hammered there was still 550-700 for other matches with Glasgow, Redcar and Berwick bringing quite a few down. The crowds this season didn’t seem any worse than previous seasons really.1 point

At least he didn’t run for cover like Leon Madsen. He instead brought his wedding date forward to avoid going.1 point

Yes, he said he guested for the Ammers in 71 after the Lokeren tragedy. Was invited to the West Ham 50th. year reunion at the Speedway Museum this year, Briggo was there. It is great to talk to ex riders. Said Knutson more or less retired after his world title.1 point

Fair bet it won't be Edinburgh. Nice wee chap, but not the best rider l've ever seen around Armadale.......1 point

Great experience talking to an ex rider like that. I just about remember him at West Ham, but I don’t think he really settled to the big track there. Dis he say anything about his days as a Hammer?1 point

Yes agree, I am one who has been on his case . I thought his attitude at Kings Lynn was terrible, we had just won the title and he was nowhere to be seen, i know he felt he could have won heat 14 but these things happen you don't go into a big sulk, Middlo had to beckon him over several times to pick up his medal then other riders had to encourage to try to enjoy the moment, I didn't notice it much at the time apart from he seemed to be always at the back not wanting to be part of it but watched it back on BSN and it is more obvious I can't imagine the other riders or management appreciated it. Lawson for example had never won a title before, he was superb on the night and he ended up trying to get Drew to enjoy it. I spoke to Kyle Newman at Poole in the first leg and personally would love to have him back in the team.1 point

As @piepower said this seems perfect for junior level Speedway with riders progressing onto 500cc meths. Buy a standard piece of kit that you can "turn up" as you progress. The authorities have the power at the moment to dictate technical rules regarding the addition of "trick" parts, so if they don't do it at the moment there's nothing to suggest they'd stop riders adding trick parts to these electric bikes if they were to be used as replacements for the 500's. There's also the sound issue, for me that is a massive part of Speedway, often if it doesn't sound fast... it doesn't look fast. Look at F1, since they've moved from the V10 & V8 screamers to the low revving hybrids... it just doesn't sound fast anymore, and they know it! For me I'd be happier watching the seniors on something more like the 250cc machines the SGP3 riders were using, sounded fast, looked fast and the riders seemed to be approaching the limits of their machines so there was more emphasis on the riding skills of the riders to make the difference.1 point
