  1. Some of the comments on here all add to why British speedway is in the dumps. Riders can spend 10’s of thousands of pounds on equipment but the spectators say going watching is worth only £15 for 15 races. Then it comes to the cream of British racing event, a GP with the worlds best riders giving it all, and they did once again, in a city centre (couldn’t get any more centre), meeting guaranteed no matter what the weather, seats (not standing) from £20 and a fair chunk of the crowd would be in that price range, plenty of meeting day activities including bars, eateries, parks, , rolling hills 10 miles away, sand & sea…………. and they still want hotels for £30 a night. Get a pop star performing in the same stadium and entry could be £60-£100, the hotels in 3 figures, and the city will be rammed full, no problem. We know the prices in 2024 will be at least this years prices, so if you want to go you get saving from now. The show is not moving to Wembley, but Wembley costs would be similar if not more, the facilities of parks, rolling hills, sand & sea will not be there, parking probably madness and high price, don’t know about bars and eateries, hotels just as expensive etc……. you can’t guarantee a meeting cause if it rains that’s it done, it would be a temporary track with its potential problems, and as I recall the racing at Wembley was not brilliant anyway. Atmosphere was good, very good….. but what would you prefer a fantastic atmosphere or good racing. My choice would be good racing every time. Cardiff can produce good racing, it has over the years, massive hiccup last year, but lesson learnt they are not going to let that happen again.

  2. I tell ya what,,,, massive massive praise should be heaped on Simon Lambert,,, the poor bloke always seems to miss out on team places in the top league until injuries,,,, but he always seems to put ipswich to the sword,,, 15 points,,, that's fantastic really. By the way, Riss,, a former stars number 1 was pure doggy doo doo again,,

  3. A crucial match featuring the two best teams in the league and available on BSN, so Poole fans can watch some proper speedway (I reckon 2 minutes max ).

  4. Thoroughly enjoyed it again this year. Managed to catch up with some old faces from all over the world that we've not seen in years. The buzz around the city centre was fantastic with a few friends from work commenting that they didn't realise speedway was so popular as I'm the only one they know who likes it. Imagine if all you moaning on your keyboard from a far had turned up, the impression of a thriving sport worth watching can never be a bad thing. The meeting its self was very enjoyable, Tai early on looked like the Tai of 2018. As has been pointed out many times you don't need 10 passes in each race for it to be a good race, only a handful of riders actually managed to get out in front and pull away. It was a much better meeting than the majority of GPs this year If you want to take it away from Cardiff and up to Belle Vue, go for it. But you'll all be moaning about how poor the 'fan zone' is or the parking or the hotel prices there too! And Wembley talk is quite frankly ludicrous! If you cant fill a 75k seater because its a 'temp track and they never work' how empty is Wembley going to look and what makes you think they'll get that right first time? Give your heads a wobble.

  5. A very good post some sound reasoning for Cardiff all of which are valid and true but the main overwhelming factor is the roof "guaranteed to be on .Except for the first time I have always done it there and back in the day and had a great time . As a former hotel owner I can tell you they have to "make hay while the sun shines ", the overheads on going costs are just the same full as half empty in many cases ..

  6. Having watched it back on TV, what an achievement by Jack Holder which went pretty much unnoticed in the stadium, while we were being treated to dance cam and Mexican wave cam and being asked to "make some noise" the true enormity of what Jack Holder was doing went completely under the radar. Kudos!

  8. As at lunchtime on Monday 4th September there has been almost 300 comments/objections to AEPGs planning applications, which will force the closure of Peterborough Speedway, there is not a single positive comment. This is great, but we need more people to comment/object. MAKE YOUR COMMENTS NOW BY THE FOLLOWING WAY Google Search ‘Peterborough City Council Planning Applications’ Search the planning register ‘Showground’ You will see the two applications references are: 23/00400/OUT and 23/00412OUT click on either and/or both Click on documents Click on associated documents You will then see the comments/objections that have been already left there are 25 to a page. Go down the different page numbers to eventually find the planning application detail. To make a comment/objection go back to the page where the associated documents link was and click the comments link. Leave your comments/objections and press submit. Anyone can comment/object. You can comment on both applications.

  9. Don’t forget Moss Side, which isn’t that far away either. I think with Belle Vue, too many people get caught up in the stadium being named the “National Speedway Stadium”….It’s a stadium, it’s OK, but the location, lack of public transport. etc detract from it for me.

  10. I think the way forward would be to 'create' a Midlands Speedway Venue and have B'ham, Cov, Cradley, Wolves, share the facility. It's not an impossible task....

  11. What a contrived result. Still that sums up the sport. Form suggests it should not be but but no doubt no one will ever prove what a load of crap this sport has become with results like this. Stage managed or what.

  12. You're problem would be if Glasgow scunny and Redcar for example were in same group would take 6 weeks to complete for all the meetings to be completed assuming don't have a rain off. You're then again running the final end of October/ November. Play offs in general are flawed to me, it's an Americanism brought in for no good reason. I mean the fact that Edinburgh in theory could've totally changed their side and go on to "win" by finishing 6th in a 9 team league is utter nonsense

  13. No apologies here for being critical but..... more then a few on here in last couple years been criticising the fuddy duddy music churned out at speedway meetings.... like it not going to attract the young spectators the sport desperately needs, So WBD, Knowing the audience it wants to attract, plays modern music and gets criticised. They can't win it seems.

  22. Why, neither team was at full strength for original running. It's just a pet hate of mine. We used to run 16/17 home matches a season, now we struggle to find 10

  23. I don't think there were any Fridays both Oxford and Glasgow had free, or that weren't affected by riders appearing somewhere else. Understandable for both teams to want to be full strength. I think there was one week the teams could do but there were already other events on and it was asking too much of the track staff. That's the other thing we often overlook - some people take time off work to volunteer in order for us to get our fix. They give up a lot, but they still need to earn their living.

  25. To all supporters not able to get to this meeting or watch it on BSN, live commentary is available on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, for those outside the broadcast area, you can pick this up on BBC Sounds. As an added bonus, I am the summariser on the radio broadcast tonight.

  26. I think herein lies the answer. Fans won’t flock to a venue and team that were once their rivals. Should a new venture start with no ties to former clubs (and therefore no rivalries), then it becomes a more palatable option for otherwise partisan fans of other clubs.

  27. The solution here is to fall back on race night priority. Not ideal but there’s a reason it’s there. The better solution going forward would be to put play-offs in the bin completely.

  28. Probably their only chance of getting a heat winner tonight !!!

  29. Yes, although we have yet to see their full reasoning, it does appear that that will be one of their main points but even that can be argued against and I'm just working on my objection as we speak.

  31. I love heavy metal music... but I wouldn't dream of subjecting a stadium full of kids to pensioners to it. You play the classics that everybody loves, proven to work, they're classics for a reason... If I wanted to listen to club anthems I'd go to a Swedish House Mafia concert. Have you heard the music they play in between overs at a T20 match? Not one "drop" to be heard... and packed stadiums. I can't think that anybody would say I'm not going because they played Sweet Caroline... but I can think of many that would be put off by the incessant thumping of the "music" they play out at such a high volume

  32. Graduated from the scheme is a better explanation for it. He improved & got a spot in their top 6. That's a ringing endorsement for the RS system in my view

  33. Easy win for Ipswich, Buster and Dale don’t care… they obviously brought Robert in to keep the crowd coming, not to win meetings clearly

  35. It was the Bournemouth air festival this weekend and the price of hotels was ridiculous. Probably just coincidence though Hopefully they'll hold it in Manchester or London next year

  36. Totally agree. I wasn't bothered by the result, (apart from I didn't want madsen to do well) and went for the venue - the city is accessible, friendly, full of speedway fans & things going on, all in a small area. The world cup I went to at belle Vue was awful in comparison, dump area, not easy to get to by public transport, very limited parking and nowt to do around the stadium - plus if it rains, oh well wasted trip.

  37. Looks to be a more exciting series than the SGP this year. Bomber 1 round away from becoming World Champion! I'll admit I didn't think he'd have the consistency or mechanical standards to do it but he's made me eat my words, and I'm happy to eat them, let's hope he can bring it home in a couple of weeks... shame it's not getting the publicity it deserves. Is the final round available to watch anywhere?

  38. No it wasn’t, by Cardiff standards it was one of the better offerings.

  40. I wonder if batch would have been pulling wheelies at the back if Stewart Dickson had been present ??? and if so what Stewart’s reaction have been when he returned to the pits. Both Batch and Craig cook need to decide if they want to continue riding speedway then they either give it everything or give up. This half hearted efforts do them or the promotions no good at all.

  42. I have submitted my objections to both applications, but it set me thinking. Should we in some way be getting other showground users involved too ? The obvious one is Truckfest as its their flagship event, and I believe one of the premier events world wide of this type. Also the camping & caravan show..... I'm sure there are many others too. If we could show its truly multi purpose then there would be more objections and a greater chance of success ?

  45. I would think there will be a lot of Ipswich fans there too.It is important for them to win, plus they look odds on to win this one. It's a shame it has come down to this for me,because obviously I want to see a Stars win but I also would like to see Ipswich in the play offs with Sayfutdinov.I know that comment may upset some of my Stars friends, sorry

  46. But everyone didn't race against everyone. Glasgow had beaten Poole Oxford and Redcar in the qualifying heats. And took maximum points from their one heat against one of the weaker teams

  47. There is a lot of Tai bashing on here, but he is what the sport needs. We are missing those gobby crowd pleasers in domestic speedway. He knows how to get the crowd going and has a lot of support in a live environment.

  48. The biggest issue with league speedway is the way it’s ran. The operating model isn’t fit for purpose & is massively contrived. The issues stem from years of poor management & no real desire to grow the product. The golden ticket was during the first sky contract, a tv partner who wanted to invest & paid a very good sum for the broadcast rights. That came at a time when the majority of the worlds best still rode here & the gp came to Cardiff. I still remember Mark Loram being featured on the back page of the sun newspaper on a Saturday. But instead of investing the promoters at the time spent the money on propping up what they had been doing for years, With no hope of a return on the investment or any signs of progress the money Sky have slowly declined until they binned it of altogether. To have a meaningful league structure that allows emotional buy in guesting & doubling has to stop & it has to be ran properly. Now that’s where the issue is it’s now to late to save not enough venues not enough riders & far to few spectators.

  49. So Lewis Kerr plays his part and I would say has done what is expected from him for Sheffield. Popular with all fans of Clubs he has ridden for. Sheffield looking good for play offs. Another GB rider callously tossed aside to accommodate an ageing Holder who has shown scant interest in riding in the UK in recent years and a Dane. Shocking state of affairs .
