The racing at most places is pretty poor isn't it? BSN must be cheesed off as they depend so much on "generic" speedway fans subscribing... I get to watch Poland and Sweden and often give UK racing a miss on Eurosport given invariably it is poor entertainment.. Apart from a few tracks, eg. (in no particular order), NSS, Glasgow, Worky, Scunthorpe 0 and Redcar, there does seem to be a very low entertainment threshold at a lot of tracks... Based on a "win at all costs" mentality maybe around track prep? What promoters forget I fear is that only one team can win a league, so, for many teams, they are out of contention within a month or two,.. (Leagues where let's be honest don't carry too much kudos or financial reward).. ,Therefore, selling "the racing" for thes majority of clubs has to be key surely?

To defend Laguta slightly, he was brought over by Brady wasn't he on their agreed deal. Brady soon departed and he was left with Buster, who whether you believe it or not, didn't wanted him riding in many meetings due to his cost. Ended up at Peterborough because that meant the cost wasn't put on Lynn Think he could be forgiven to some extent based on the joke surroundings he was amongst. Personally think Laguta could thrive at a club like Ipswich which provides a more stable environment for their riders.

False dawn. Given the commitment of the riders in their racing I don't think the size of the crowd had any effect on them.

Challenging night for everyone down at the Coliseum from the team at Gladiators TV right through to the riders on track. As stressed on the stream at the start, that weather right before the meeting caught everybody out. Forecast only changed at 4pm and the showers pre-meeting really did make those early heats tricky. Credit must go to both sets of riders, managers, the referee and the track staff who at no point complained about the situation and instead were all proactive in doing everything possible to get the meeting to reach its conclusion but once we got through heats 7+8, thankfully the weather calmed down. As mentioned in the Plymouth thread, when it rains it pours for the Gladiators in recent times. Covatti not in team colours, Dan with Covid and Ben suffering a nasty clash with the fence on the backstraight after lifting off bend 2. Fingers crossed it’s nothing too serious and he can come back 100% when he’s ready. Spirited effort from the team, Troy Batchelor with a professional guest appearance, Kyle Newman and Alfie Bowtell with good nights too but ultimately Charles Wright was a class above and with the help of Jason Edwards, the Bears proved too strong on the night. Still early days in the Gladiators season but they need to get that aggregate point next week against Berwick to really propel themselves into the mix.

And happy to be, rather a close meeting than a one sided affair. But seriously what the hell track was that? Completely different to normal. Arrived to see most of the dirt gone and it looked slick with very little in the way of dirt in the outside. The rider interviews after the meeting confirmed this as they all said they were completely caught out by the track and it being prepared nothing like normal. Why on earth did that happen? Surely a track should be prepared the same every week to the riders liking? Took Poole until half way through the match to get going and it should have been won far earlier than heat 15 but we got there in the end. Take a bow Jason Edwards that was the best I and many other have ever seen him ride and when he gated in heat 15 with Wright at the back I expected Wright to pick off a Pirate to cause a golden heat. Lawsons bike going pop in heat 13 caused it to come down to the last but that was the worst I have seen Pirates ride this year. As for our new signing Vinnie Ford, well it was an improvement on his predecessor and he battled all night. Pirates go top. No home meeting now for over a month.

Good performance from the Bears - Jason Edwards in particular but Wright, Bailey and Mulford all had their moments too. With a fully fit Danny King it might have been even closer. Obviously Lawson losing a chain helped but Bears deserve some luck after the season we’ve had so far. Lawson and Brennan very good for the Pirates, but the rest of the team very up and down. As others have said the racing wasn’t good, only 2 passes of note (Wright and Brennan) and the rest decided by turn 3 lap 1. Noticeable too how strung out the races were after the blue groove appeared. BSN stream good as usual but watched without sound as I just can’t listen to Roynon.

Hold your horses Poole haters... it'll be "Sweet Caroline" soon, after heat 14... worth the admission money alone!

It’s a demand at Ipswich, not a request so you’re quite correct. Emil to his credit took that on board. They may have to lower their sights and change the make up of the side from a powerful top end, to a more strength in depth looking side with just Emil as the big hitter. That would mean sacrificing a rider lower down unfortunately. The drop off points wise from Doyle’s replacement has to be made up elsewhere in the team. We’ll see.

All i know is they are working tirelessly to get the right kind of rider into our team that fits the criteria of Team Spirit that this Witches septet have built up through the early stages of this season. And on Monday evening at Birmingham, at the end of the meeting....Vaculik and Dudek were definetly not part of any discussions with Chris and Ritchie, and from what was said, i doubt that has changed in any way. They had been turned down by 1 GP rider, but they expected that anyway, and i would go as far as saying these 2 are seriously trying thier hardest to bring a rider in....For in their words an Irreplaceable rider in Jason Doyle. It seems very difficult to get the right rider in, but im nobody, just a fan who watches Home and Away most of the season, and i know they are frustrated in their efforts to gain a new Heat Leader. But those 2 named above, and Laguta were not part of any ongoing discussions as of Monday about 10pm. I would just add, i wouldnt rule out Laguta, nothing was said, but i just wouldnt rule him out. And for what its worth...And this was not part of anything discussed, just my opinion, i wouldnt be shocked if they made 2 Changes and not just bring in a Replacement for Jason, but thats not from a reliable source, thats from me who just has a hunch.

He'll get another team for sure! Apparently, B'ham tried to sign several guests but none suitable were available....(if you believe what the Promoters say...) Can only see a very big Ipswich win....20 points plus!

I bought the stream on BSN. It was a very long way to go to see it live. It's a shame because the empty stands on the stream were very obvious and a bit disappointing. My main reason for saying that is the effect it would have had on the competitors. Oh well. Despite the above, I thought this was an excellent meeting. Real commitment from the riders and a few surprises along the way. I have been to Glasgow a few times and I have to say that they have built an impressive set up and the racing is very entertaining. Well done. And a special mention to Sam Hagon. His transfer to Leicester is obviously paying off

When a rider like Wright can’t make a move on Hagon you could say the same too. Similarly Ben Cook was way off the pace if he didn’t gate.

Fwiw I believe Laguta would of stayed in the UK riding for Peterborough had we been running this season, I think he’s a rider that needs to be in the right environment to thrive so that may be at Ipswich as well, that environment certainly wasn’t at Kings Lynn during his first spell here. He was very good and committed the last couple of meetings he did at the Showground, only missing the last one because Wrocław pulled him out.

I think I would rather buy a season ticket for Armadale than watch another heat of this. My old mate John G suffers from insomnia but I will show him this meeting and it should sort it right out.

The problem with Laguta last season was that he might have "graced us with his presence", but in some matches it wasn't obvious.

So last year when Brennan was averaging like 6 had he been injured you’d have been happier fielding a kid in the main body of the team and not at all ready to be a top flight 7 let alone 2/4??

He was doin nothing correct decision was made, it can't of been helping his confidence.

I wouldn't think Laguta is in their plans at the moment, as i said i wouldn't rule him out, but he will be a last ditch desperate choice if every other avenue is burnt. It's clear they want reliability and Commitment, especially the position the team is in...And Laguta doesnt bring either of those, thats not just to Ipswich, i would say that about any team in the Premier Division, he would be a last ditch option for all 7 Teams.

On certain tracks in the UK, Laguta would be an upgrade on Doyle.

Grudziadz have signed MJJ on loan from Poznan until the end of the season.- Zagar wanted too much money which they were not prepared to pay. They have lost the RR(ZZ) facility for Jason Doyle who is now not in their top 2 averages. Talking of Grudziadz, the Extraleague authorities have today confirmed the decision on the Gorzow v Grudziadz postponed match debacle !! Both teams will receive no match points, -40 race points and no bonus point awarded after the return match.

I'd love Hampel back at Ipswich! I saw on interview Emil flying the flag telling other riders to come back/come to Britain. Just hope Ippo get a good replacement in as we're in a great position this season so far

Clearly it’s a reward for progression and earning yourself a place in the main body of the team, which is why the scheme is there in the first place. It’s not a special rule just for Ipswich and nobody else. If any of the others show the same progression and move out of the reserve berths then they’ll also be granted the same facility. The rules are for all clubs, not just one.

Of course they thought of it it is a specific paragraph in the rules. It is a clear act of commission, not an omission through oversight. Whether it is a wisely drawn regulation is certainly up for debate though.

Watching the “big” riders doesn’t necessarily mean entertainment in my opinion as can be seen by some of the crap we sometimes witness on Eurosport. Last Sunday’s under 21 final proved that Ashfield can produce fantastic racing without the need for big names. I’ve never been a fan of leaving the championship due to the possible pitfalls you’ve mentioned.

At the age of 40, Grigory Laguta still rides speedway in Russia. He even is the current national champion and captain of the Vladivostok team in the Russian Speedway League. A week ago at Oktyabrsky, Grigory Laguta won the Rinat Mardanshin Memorial. On Thursday though he crashed in a league meeting at Balakovo and suffered a concussion. In his heyday he was certainly one of the best riders in the world, was European champion, but sadly never rode in the SGP series except for a couple of wild card appearances in Latvia.
