  1. Hi all, I don’t often comment on here but I do feel the need to clear this up. we did plan to run rr at home as we felt it was the best option and would reasonably cover for tofty, plus give our riders an extra ride. However as some of you know Kyle’s partner is heavily pregnant and is due anytime and late Friday night he informed me that she was having what they thought maybe contractions, it turned out to be a false alarm but myself and Rob felt it was too much of a gamble to run rr incase something happened before the meeting. Kyle also had my full support in whatever he chose to do. Getting a suitable guest was difficult, we tried all these riders and more but for whatever reason couldn’t or didn’t want to do it, it was never a financial issue as it never got that far. Ashton was more than happy to do it and yes it didn’t work out for him but if we had run rr and something had happened to Kyle Sunday morning the club couldn’t have put a team out as we had already exhausted all avenues, ok granted it didn’t happen but it could have. well done to Poole on their deserved victory yesterday, they are a formidable team that just keep coming at you heat after heat but I won’t let it take the shine off what has been a good year, we just came up short at the end. cheers David

  2. Boughen was brought in at no 1 as Kyle Howarth was a massive doubt to make the fixture as his partner is expecting a child . David Howe Scorpions team manager addressed this after the match in the club house He stated Tofty was defiantly out and Kyle was less then 50/50 to make the meeting so he asked riders to fill in ,certain riders were cup tied as they had ridden for other clubs in the play offs , riders wanted to much money and other riders turned down the booking so by having Ashton in the team they would always have a minimum of six riders and a R/R facility to take on Poole . Kyle did make the fixture and yes Ashton was a little out of his depth but was brave enough to take the booking and thank you for doing that . It didn’t matter what side we had our Poole were too strong for us and were class on the night .no hard feelings to any riders from Scunny as it was a tough gig and a meeting to far. What we do get at Scunny is top class racing and that’s why I go following Hull Vikings demise about 18 yrs ago .Support speedway or we won’t have Speedway in a few years Rant over well done Poole and let’s see what next season brings as I’ve got knowledge of the Scorpions side for next year and it’s a fact we will be a top 4 side again . Plus watching speedway in September when some clubs finished there season 6 weeks ago

  7. Syzmon at the moment is having a torrid time in GP and Ekstraliga. I hope his luck changes, he is scoring about 3/4 points a meeting for Stal and I was at the meeting with Torun yesterday and again he had a nightmare. I think it’s more physiological at the moment, he is a good rider but very emotional too, things with his dad this season and the pressure he is under must be hard. Hancock has been a disaster for him. Now the Stal president said they will terminate his contract potentially this season, but only 1 day before Torun Grand Prix he was told his contract is secured for next year. He must be struggling. I feel for him, he is one of the really good genuine guys of the sport. I hope he comes to England and really hits the ground running! Although I think he will stay in Scandinavia.

  8. You can't blame Boughen. Only one guy to blame and that's the guy who wants to do everything on the cheap. Pay King or Kerr etc what they want and least makes the meeting a little bit more Competitive.

  10. It's time to part company with Max Fricke, Leicester nor any club for that matter will ever win a title with him at no.1, good rider though he is. Jason Doyle is the best rider Leicester has had in the current era, he's a winner and the club should be going the extra mile to try and get him back on board. Szymon Wozniak will probably lose his GP place and could be ideal to have as the second rider of a new spearhead. He'd possibly be assessed as 8 but if given 7 would be a great acquisition and would possibly enable a clear third heat leader to be brought in. Overall, I think Leicester should ring the changes for 2025 but that could include bringing back some riders who have been there before, Dan Thompson being another, and his brother Joe.

  12. And that’s exactly why Cardiff got a crowd of 40,000 before the novelty wore off, the GP needs a new Cardiff not a BV, I’ve been to belle vue a couple of times this year for league matches and as great as the racing is it’s not what I and others want from a GP

  13. If you want to watch proper racing go to Belle Vue. If you want to sit in bar outside the stadium all day, go to Cardiff.

  14. It wasn’t oversized, it was the first GM engine which was far superior to the weslake/godden or Jawa that was used at the time and it was pretty much the end for those 3 manufacturers, the mk1 GM was a very quick engine but was very unreliable with rocker arms and conrods breaking frequently

  16. I was watching an old SGP on youtube the other day, think was Prague 2002. Had Millard and Tatum commentating and in all honesty the whole presentation was streets ahead of what it is now. And everyone (myself included) used to slate Millard! Tatum is IMO fine as a back up but needs a proper commentator ahead of him. Pearson was superb IMO and is very badly missed. Pearson's excitement along with his excellent knowledge of the sport was brilliant and wont hear anyone tell me different. Pundits, presenters and commentators make errors in all sports at all levels and thought the people each week slating Pearson were a bit harsh. Granted Millard was a bit of a plank but still streets ahead of what we have now. Watch an old SGP or Elite League meeting on youtube from 20 ish years ago and watch a modern day one and you'll see what I mean. I find Chris Louis a very informative guy but he is as boring as they get when commentating. When you had Pearson & Tatum commentating, Johnathan Green and Louis/Johno in the studio and Sophie Blake interviewing in the pits, it was pretty good.

  17. I have never been a fan of using play off's in speedway to decide a league winner, but I have been a lone voice on here over the years. I accept it may have worked in the past to offer some good finals, let's be honest it relies on luck as much as anything. Let the league winner be the team that finish's top of the league. Right now we are seeing 'luck' being the factor in the play offs. Luck that the weather plays nicely, and come late Sept/Oct in the UK it's not something you would put money on. Instead of the league winner being the team that have been consistent from Apr-Sept, that team could have bad luck in one match and lose the title, so the league winner to some degree relies on luck in the play-off's. Recent years we have seen play off matches full of guest riders, and riders who only sign on once their lucrative Polish leagues finish. The biggest farce of all this season, there's only seven bloody teams in the league. If we the TV deal insists on this farcical play off situation, with just seven teams let's just make it that the top two in the league contest a play off final and let that be at the first week in September when we may still have acceptable weather.

  18. Fitting a maximum of 14 matches in from April to September start does prove rather tricky doesn't it? Just 24 weeks from 01/04 to 01/9, (23 weeks ex SON this year), to cram in 14 matches.... Cannot be done given that impossible equation.. If only Einstein was still alive....

  23. This isn’t great thinking at all. If you know anything about how things have gone for riders whilst Hancock is mentoring them then you’d know it’s a bad idea !

  24. That's exactly what you explained in the BSN interview before the meeting. Thanks. Just unfortunate that Boughen couldn't yet hack it as a number 1.

  25. Boughen only scored 4+1 on his last visit to Scunny. Was he the only rider available, tbf many riders have packed up for the year??

  26. That doesn't make sense. It was pretty obvious that Mulford would come into heat 11 to replace Blodorn (or could come into heat 12 or 14 to replace Vuolas). When Cook was injured, it meant Mulford had to ride in heat 14, so there was no need to bring him into 11 or 12. Had Lemon panicked and put Mulford in heat 9, he'd have ended up taking 4 rides.

  27. Why would Poole fans get behind Scunthorpe? Poole fans support Poole. Poole is built to entertain and win the same as every club.

  33. Maybe Egon Muller for riding a oversized engine to win a world title. He was a great long track rider but world speedway champion?. The second worse winner in history

  34. I’d like to see a new rule which allows the referee to have a no blame rerun where a incident on the track is a 50/50 then both riders can be put in the rerun unlike now when a rider must be excluded. also every premiership team to run in the NDL with their rising star leading the team.

  36. I'd like to keep Lawson because I think the pairing of him and Fricke at home are really solid, even if he won't increase his average. Becker I've been a bit disappointed with, but he certainly has more improvement in him than Masters who's probably on the downward slope now so I'd plump for him at 4 and look at options for 3 and 5 if Douglas does go elsewhere. I wouldn't be too disappointed with Sedgmen at 6 but I do think Cook offers more if his head is in the right place.

  38. I don't care what level of racing we have at Glasgow next year, but 11 home meetings a season is a joke. With the millions that have been invested in the club and facilities it would be nice to showcase it more than once every third Friday. It's always easier to spend other people's money so the Facennas will make the call. On the attendance nonsense. Glasgow raced midweek this year and between that and Friday nights I didn't see a collosal difference. I am positive that if the club decided to double up and Oxford have shown that it can be done, Edinburgh fans would be there to support the away teams for sure to see the superstars in the league.

  42. They don't like his away average. They seem to ignore that he's barely ridden those tracks, is still only 19, and has shown fantastic week-by-week improvements at Ashfield. The away improvements would come naturally, but I keep hearing this line about the away average from too many people, so either someone is playing a weird bluff, or they're not interested in having him back. Sad if they're not willing to invest a second year in the one guy who has shown real potential. I hope he makes them regret it if that's the case, because he was first on my list. He's not the complete package yet, but he's working it out pretty fast.

  44. Yes, the stock car operation was well used and profitable, and the promoters didn't deserve the shabby treatment that they received from the City Council, who forced them into relinquishing their lease and to close down their operation, and then sold the land to Birmingham City in spite of receiving a substantially better offer from elsewhere (my information is that this alternative offer was actually over £30m greater - the the Council rejected the offer as "too low!" I know the site well as I was born and lived within walking distance of it, for the first 27 years of my life. It was formerly the Council rubbish tip and I've seen it described as the most contaminated piece of land in Birmingham, but although it was a desolate place in the early days, it was developed as a quite attractive venue in an extremely run-down part of the City, and I have always believed that speedway could have been successful there. The problem for the Brummies came in that fact that Dan McCormick moved in there far too early and when the place was in the very early stages of being developed. He had no option at the time for the old Greyhound Stadium at Perry Barr was about to be demolished, and there was nowhere else to go, but in hindsight, it would have been far better to have closed down Birmingham Speedway temporarily, and waited three or four year for the Wheels Park's facilities to be installed. If there is a possibility of getting Birmingham City to include speedway in their plans, then the Wheels Park would definitely be a lifeline for us.
