  1. Be lucky if there’s 3 clubs left to run in the premiership next year from what I hear

  2. actually i have to disagree with you massively what dan and brady do so good which makes them fast is keeping the wheels in line and the bike as straight as they can round the bend, not easy to do, requires such a skill. i look at most riders and they are making multiple turning actions round the bend especially exiting the bend and they lose all speed. its a different bit of skill but its a skill nevertheless

  3. Speculating about riders for next year is a bit crazy when we are not sure of the league(s) structure or points limits, despite what was 'agreed' at the AGM! Rumours of discontent in a few of the Premiership clubs whilst definitely losing Birmingham will mean changes in 2026 imo.

  6. I think Stewart Dickson made his feelings about Drew very clear on air on Monday. If Drew doesn't get the message and respond in a positive way I think he's going to find it a bit sore sitting down until he does. 🥾

  7. Ok, I'll bite. Not sure how long you've watched speedway but it's never been all about the number of passes which I've found entertaining. Of course races (before you assume I mean all, I mean some, which I can't quantify) are won from the gate, that's always been so, nothing new there. As a previous poster said, watching Bewley/Kurtz getting beaten to the first turn but then passing someone at the NSS is not really entertaining, it's expected. Watching Bewley pass two riders at Ipswich around one bend was entertaining, it wasn't expected. Equally, watching Louis/Loram/Nicholls/Howe busting a gut to pass someone at Ipswich but sometimes not pulling it off is also entertaining, but no pass was made. This is called speedway.

  8. Oxford are an utter joke this year with Gusts and Knudsen. Ripping their own and others fans off all year with their select sides.

  9. Felt a tad ashamed of being a Poole supporter tonight. We had such a superb crowd, just over 2,100 according the numbers given to the stewards. But my word, if I was some of them I wouldn’t come back. That track was awful. The dust from heat number one should’ve been a good sign to water it more but it took until half way through the meeting for someone to effectively p**s on it. And it did absolutely nothing too it. never mind the whole starting gate stuff as well. Not a good look tonight One positive, the addition of Lee from PirateCast to the announcing team this season is such a good move

  10. Their team manager weakened them!! 😆😆

  11. Cracking meeting tonight played out in front of a very big crowd. Perfect conditions for speedway. Warm dry evening, two fairly evenly matched teams and lots of good racing. Oxford might have the best rider in the league with Masters but Lawson showed him the way home tonight with a superb 15 max. Backed up by Cook and Kerr and the ever trying Thomsen. Tonight though Oxford had a huge advantage at reserve and Gusts, on his first visit to Poole, took an instant liking to the track and was quite brilliant. So a big thank you to the Oxford team manager for only using him for 5 rides. I couldn’t believe it when Killeen came out for his 4th ride, and then in heat 13 when Gusts didn’t replace Knudsen. Cost Oxford the opportunity to get something tonight.

  12. Have you not seen Glasgow, Berwick or Redcar?

  13. Ridiculous, everytime Oxford gate on a 5-1 the tapes malfunction. Strange.

  14. Peter with another managerial master class this evening, not using Gusts in heat 12. Never seen anyone so clueless when it comes to managing a side.

  15. Another problem is we love to hype up young riders who have a bit of promise and expect them to instantly be a woffy of a Lambert.

  16. As you can see AceBelle has laughed at you which shows the kind of people you are dealing with … basically they will never understand …. They just see their big fast track and that to them is speedway I watched Bewley at Foxhall last season line up and pass Emil then a lap later the same to Ellis … fantastic skillful riding showing that he is supremely talented What these Belle Vue fans don’t understand is that we are all saying it’s the best racetrack in the country by some way ….. but they are totally blinkered to the fact other tracks that aren’t as fast produce good racing as well What’s more entertaining….. a rider taking 4 laps to pass one or two opposing riders by using track craft and going inside and out ….. or just blasting round the boards or cutting back making a long straight …. Not much in it I would say Watch Mark Loram 1999 Swedish Grand Prix on a big track using all manner of lines …. Then watch him at Wolves using all manner of lines to spilt the Karlsson brothers….. 2 totally different tracks but the skill set of the rider makes both compelling viewing To many riders today are simply throttle jockeys who can’t handle different tracks and that’s not a dig at Belle Vue riders that’s around the world … I’m not sure how Zmarzlik or even Kurtz would cope at Eastbourne …. Bewley i feel is more adaptable ….. Bewley has said to me personally he loves riding at Ipswich

  18. The makeup of the team relies on a high scoring reserve. So yes, if Klindt is poor tomorrow night, it's absolutely game over. King's Lynn needs 9 minimum from his programmed rides. With Lawson & Harris having been recent former Lions 8 minimum has to come from them. Can we get 21 from Iversen, Kvech, Nicholls, Harrison & Klindt switches?? Why not, hey?? There is hope for King's Lynn, there is capability in this side to throw an upset.

  19. Fancis Gusts too. 3.00 Prem average allowed him to sign for Oxford in the Champ on a 4.50 converted ave. Doing all they can to help British riders (not)!

  20. Not unless he’s in a team where he can stay at number 6 all season, juts can’t cut it in main body of the team
    2 points
  21. Using him early (heat 4), would mean Harrison would have to go in heat 14. At what could be a critical point in the match, no disrespect to Luke but I wouldn’t want him in heat 14 - unless Rob takes Klindt out of one of his programmes rides and puts Luke in there. IMO Luke needs to have completed all of his rides by the end of heat 8 with the hope he finishes ahead of Joe T on a couple of occasions.

  23. Kirky Lane delivered some very good racing until Air Fences came in and took away the wider outside run that the likes of Screen, Ott, Ermolenko, Adams, Hamill, Crump, Nielsen, Trick etc etc all used to great effect... It was designed as a "small track that rode like a big one", with very wide bends for its overall size.. When the Air Fences came in, it then became very much "standard UK fayre", of fill your programme in after bend three, lap one... Monmore went a similar way after they reconfigured the bend two fence to make the entry on to the track.. , As the equipment changed, these tracks of those shapes sadly didn't deliver the same level of entertainment that they once did... Anyone watching on TV would keep far more interested I would think if the racing had plenty of passing, rather than reinforcing the view that so many hold of whoever gets out of the start first always wins, no matter how close the rider is behind for four laps.. The devoted fans may love watching tight technical battles but the vast majority of any Motorsport followers, (and commentators), are very much in it for the passing that takes place, and the excitement it generates... Hence sporting bodies like F1 (a sport whose reputation was 100% "follow the leader"), keep making restrictions and changes to car specs to try and keep racing closer and more competitive, and use "gadgets" like DRS used to increase passing opportunities... Watching Kurtz, Lambert, BZ, Bewley, Doyle, and Emil in particular, all fly around the NSS, passing rivals just inches from the fence at high speed, is surely the ultimate in bravery and skill on a Speedway bike, and why people go to watch the sport?

  24. I was brought up on speedway at Hyde Road, then we had Kirky Lane, now the NSS, ive seen good meetings and bad at all three, i remember Kings Lynn and Cradley producing great racing along with smaller tracks like Wimbledon, Newport (Somerton Park), Monmore Green and even Crayford, there was no bickering about racing on different tracks then, obviously pre internet, i think a contributing factor today are the modern machines are more geared for the bigger faster tracks, no doubt if Mondays meeting doesnt produce good racing people will be critical of that sometimes you cant win too much racing or not enough, either way i dont think the skill of the riders can be questioned.

  25. There’s little or no affiliation by riders to clubs. A quick look on Wikipedia at two Bees stars… Nigel Boocock, eight clubs, four of which in the latter days winding down his career. Chris Harris, 29 clubs, 16 UK, 13 Overseas. (this post is NOT about guest bookings!) My first years at Brandon, the riders were all locally-based, the furthest away were Ron and Rick in the Black Country! Fans identified with the riders, they identified with the clubs. That’s all gone now. Fly in, ride, fly out to ride for someone else.

  27. Trouble with riding for Poole though. People want us to lose/fail so that will include having a pop at Will unfortunately.

  28. Irrelevant what their reserves scored …. Missing a heat leader who was replaced by another sides number 7 is it that hard to see why they were weaker? So if next week Lewis Kerr is out and you replace him with Jack Smith or Ace Pijper you won’t be weaker then

  38. I agree, they need to take an early lead if possible also. With Fricke taking heats 13 and 15 with potentially Masters as his partner I find it hard to see those heats providing any advantages for the stars.

  39. Believe me, Beau Bailey will be Australia's next big thing. Massive talent. Showed plenty of mental strength in the SGP3 final to get a medal after crashing in his first heat. And most important of all, he is properly rapid.

  40. I think this is all but over - I hope KL turn up and make a decent go of it, the league match earlier in July was fairly entertaining thanks to Harris and Lawson both of them need to turn up and score well!

  41. Its one thing to have a good reserve who can be an option on the night for riders having an off night, but its a different matter when you're looking at giving them seven rides before a wheel is turned. The latter option (which I think is what Lynn will be looking at) is a massive risk, as good as Klindt can be at Leicester.

  46. With hardly any characters in ANY SPORT these days Speedway needs to go back to basics and NOT FINE anyone who even thinks about causing a problem or raising his voice in an argument.Ian thomas bless him was not everyones cup of tea but did he get people talking about things in an meeting when the racing was boring he got people talking and WE NEED PEOPLE like him to bring an element of friction in a meeting. In the UK these days the riders just swan in and out of the country ,with no element of doing anything other to score whats good for them and get out again and onto the next meeting.WITH FINES making people scared to breath speedway has gone stale, bring back the telephone and make it bigger and better for the riders to talk to the ref WITHOUT the risk of being fined,we know he/she wont change their mind but it was all part of the banter at one time when the racing was rubbish at least you had that element of banter that kept everyone talking.why cant we just get back to the natural reaction of riders without the risk of being fined?

  47. You can’t say this to Belle Vue fans they can’t accept it We all know Belle Vue is the best track in the country Many passes at Belle Vue are simply the home riders going out in the dirt and blasting round the outside … yes it’s fast it looks good but it isn’t skillful …..the best races (British final last race) will happen at Belle Vue because the track lends itself to great racing I diner need prefer the technical aspect and seeing top riders ride all the different tracks Watch on you tube Loram v Karlsson brothers at Monmore Green or Eastbourne v Poole in 1999 and tell me they aren’t fantastic races/meetings by world class riders who could ride all sorts of tracks not just ones that need fast bikes As much as I want Kurtz to win the world title I wonder if riders like him or even Zmarzlik would have ever coped with those tracks and not just the rocket ship big tracks abroad today I saw an interview with Todd Wiltshire and he said the most talented riders he had ever seen was Mark Loram Joe Screen and Andrew Silver around Arena Essex… Wiltshire said the skill levels were off the charts I expect Belle Vue to win by 14-16 and I hope there is some good racing …. Though I’m expecting race updates to read about ‘Witches make the start before (insert any Belle Vue rider) goes around them on bends 3-4”….. to me I prefer 2 riders battling and skill required for the overtake But yes the NSS is the best track gives the best racing …. But accept that other tracks do too

  48. You say that, but... passing should be difficult and riders should be utilising all their riding skills to accomplish that pass or it just becomes all too easy and dare I say it boring, that's why I'm not a fan of the Scunny track, yes there's a lot of passing but I've seen riders make passes at that track and I couldn't really say how they've made the pass, it just seems a bit random... like the speedway equivalent of Basketball, when they just score a basket and then go up the other end and score a basket and vice versa until the clock runs down, or the passing that goes on at the Indy 500.

  49. I asked “how to boost u k speedway attendances”…. To boost UK speedway attendances, several key areas need attention: improving the quality of racing, enhancing the fan experience, and increasing promotion and media coverage. Specifically, this includes focusing on track quality, attracting top riders, streamlining league structures, and implementing a more effective marketing strategy. Here's a more detailed breakdown: 1. Improve the Product: Track Quality: A well-prepared track with multiple racing lines is crucial for exciting racing and attracting fans. Rider Quality: Attracting top-tier riders, potentially by restricting Premiership riders from doubling up in the Championship, can improve the overall quality of racing. League Structure: Consider adjustments to league structures and team compositions to ensure competitive racing and minimize uncertainty for teams. Event Presentation: Ensure events are well-organized, with efficient operation and a positive atmosphere for fans. 2. Enhance the Fan Experience: Stadium Atmosphere: Create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere at the stadium, including concessions, entertainment, and comfortable seating. Family-Friendly Options: Offer activities and promotions that appeal to families and younger audiences to broaden the fan base. Accessibility: Ensure easy access to the stadium and affordable ticket prices to make speedway accessible to a wider audience. 3. Increase Promotion and Media Coverage: National Advertising Campaign: Implement a comprehensive marketing strategy to raise awareness of speedway and attract new fans. Digital Presence: Utilize social media and online platforms to engage with fans, share highlights, and promote upcoming events. Media Partnerships: Seek opportunities to partner with media outlets, including television and streaming services, to increase visibility and reach a wider audience. 4. Address Financial Sustainability: Sponsorship: Seek out commercial sponsorship deals to provide vital revenue for improving facilities and promoting the sport. Cost-Effectiveness: Explore ways to operate more efficiently and manage costs effectively to ensure the long-term sustainability of teams and leagues. By addressing these areas, UK speedway can work towards reversing the decline in attendances and securing a more sustainable future for the sport.

  50. Getting more media coverage for Speedway requires a multi-faceted approach, focusing on building relationships, creating compelling content, and leveraging various media platforms. Here's a breakdown of strategies: 1. Cultivate Media Relationships: * Identify Key Journalists: Research and identify journalists, reporters, and broadcasters who cover motorsports, local news, and sports. Look for those who have previously shown interest in niche sports or community events. * Personalized Outreach: Don't send generic press releases. Tailor your pitches to each journalist, highlighting why your Speedway story would be relevant and interesting to their audience. * Provide Exclusive Access: Offer journalists unique behind-the-scenes access, interviews with key riders, team owners, or track management. Exclusive content is highly valued. * Be a Reliable Source: Provide accurate information, meet deadlines, and be responsive to media inquiries. Build a reputation as a trustworthy and helpful contact. * Attend Events: Be present at races and other motorsport events. This provides opportunities for face-to-face networking with media representatives. 2. Create Compelling Content: * Strong Story Angles: * Human Interest: Focus on the personal stories of riders, their challenges, triumphs, and unique journeys. This resonates with a broader audience beyond just hardcore fans. * Local Connection: Highlight local riders, teams, or the impact of Speedway on the local community. Local news outlets are always looking for local angles. * Underdog Stories: Everyone loves an underdog. Promote stories of riders overcoming adversity or achieving unexpected success. * Innovation/Technology: If there are new technologies, safety advancements, or unique aspects to Speedway, emphasize them. * Historical Significance: If your track or an event has a rich history, tell those stories. * High-Quality Visuals: * Professional Photos and Videos: Provide media outlets with stunning, high-resolution images and dynamic video clips of races, overtakes, and behind-the-scenes action. * Infographics and Stats: Create easy-to-understand infographics about Speedway rules, rider statistics, or historical data. * Regular Press Releases: Issue well-written press releases for significant announcements like: * Race results and championships * New sponsorships * Major events or series * Community initiatives * New rider signings or retirements * Behind-the-Scenes Content: Show the grit, dedication, and passion that goes into Speedway. This could be training, bike mechanics, team camaraderie, etc. 3. Leverage Diverse Media Platforms: * Traditional Media: * Local Newspapers and Radio: These are often the easiest to get coverage from, especially with strong local angles. * Regional and National Sports Publications: Target publications specifically focused on motorsports or broader sports news. * Television (Local and National): Pitch exciting visual stories for news segments or sports features. Consider live crosses from events. * Digital Media: * Social Media: * Active Presence: Maintain strong, active profiles on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, and YouTube. * Engaging Content: Post race schedules, results, highlight reels, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and interactive content (polls, Q&As). * Live Streams: Live stream races, practice sessions, or interviews to engage fans directly. * Influencer Marketing: Partner with motorsports influencers or popular content creators to reach new audiences. * Website/Blog: Maintain a professional website with news, schedules, rider profiles, and media resources. Consider a blog with feature articles about the sport. * Podcasts: Pitch Speedway stories to existing sports podcasts or consider starting your own. * Online Forums and Communities: Engage with fans and share news in relevant online communities. * Specialized Motorsport Media: Target dedicated motorsport websites, magazines, and broadcasters (like British Speedway Network or Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, which covers Speedway GP). They are always looking for relevant content. 4. Strategic Partnerships & Sponsorships: * Sponsor Activation: Work with sponsors to integrate media coverage into their marketing campaigns. This can include sponsor logos in media materials, joint press conferences, or sponsor-led content. * Cross-Promotion: Partner with other local businesses, sports organizations, or community groups to cross-promote events and share audiences. 5. Professionalism and Consistency: * Be Prepared: Have a media kit ready with key facts, statistics, high-res images, and contact information. * Professional Conduct: Ensure all interactions with the media are professional, courteous, and respectful. * Consistency: Media coverage is not a one-time effort. Consistently provide newsworthy content and engage with the media to maintain momentum. By implementing these strategies, Speedway can significantly increase its visibility and reach a wider audience through effective media coverage.
