  1. i daresay Lambert has done much more for the sport in this country than your stupid comments every week.

  2. I get where you are coming from... Integrity has always been something many have considered "lacking somewhat" for a long, long time.. That lack of independent administration will always hold the sport back given turkeys won't ever vote for Xmas...

  3. I've always respected your views you make many valid points, there is an element of the above post that poses a stark real issue for me. We see so many times the level of cheating/manipulation that goes on to win a £350 trophy can you imagine just how bent it would get if they had a decent purse for winning the league? I've always said if genuine supporters knew what really went on they'd never go again, very sadly they appear to be finding out and staying away, I haven't been to a meeting for 2 seasons and in the preceding 4 seasons only Cardiff each year and Torun once. Disappointed to say the least.

  4. What is this problem that some people have with Simon lambert? Simon is still a very good rider and still a big influence in the pits with his wealth of experience and still gives 100% on the track. He has,and still is,a loyal servant to the club,a rider who gives 100% regardless who he rides for so instead of getting on his back,be grateful for a rider who bleeds Scunthorpe scorpions!

  5. I agree he shouldn’t of got one but I don’t think he has disgraced himself, has had some good race wins along the way

  6. Been twice to Poole whilst down there working. First time I saw Scott Nicholls (Leicester) fall and the Poole crowd cheered, second time I went Bomber (Rye House) fell and again the crowd cheered, a guy sat next to me and laughed so I asked him why they do that before they even know if the rider is injured, his answer was "it`s something we do and don`t care if the rider is injured", so I told him what I thought of him and he didn`t speak to me again 😂

  7. Kevin and Jan going on Sunday. Always good greeting from home fans. Pity a couple of IDIOTS have caused all this media coverage. Let's talk speedway.

  8. Whatever they do, the must have the plan to get more people into their tracks... By whatever means necessary... Big crowds means better atmosphere, and better atmosphere means better meetings (regardless of the actual racing quality), and delivers that virtuous circle of people wanting to attend again... And interests potential sponsors and media... Most races, regardless of whether GP or NDL riders are racing, are from the gate and strung out, and has been that way since I started watching in 1969... The difference being the size of the crowd maintains the atmosphere which then generates the repeat visits... Although, the caveat is it also must be allied to you having an emotional attachment to your team, which currently isn't the case given so many times "your team" are not really "your team".... Kurtz and Bewley are great to watch on a Monday, but, I would almost guarantee, many more would watch them on a Friday or Saturday... Which shows that those nights are key... The challenge therefore is to use those nights more.. The personnel on show may be different though than what many "die hards" would want to watch, but there isn't enough of them currently to justify continuing on the same pathway... Alternatively of course, they could just run the sport properly and make the sport credible with some decent reward and kudos for winning, and have an admiisson cost, and marketing strategy that brings people in.. And, therefore keep doing it on a Monday and a Thursday.. That though, so far, has proved somewhat elusive hasn't it?...

  9. You can find it on the video thread that Stewmac does such an excellent job on.

  10. He also said we had a chance of winning the league

  11. He's 100% the better option if you want your team member to turn up and ride for your club on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday

  12. I'm not sure that the Hundred is a drastic shake up in comparison to Twenty 20, other than having much more money thrown at it, being marketed to a different audience and getting much more TV exposure- all of which could have happened with the existing Twenty 20 format. And, as I say, it is rumoured that once more franchises are taken over by IPL owners it will become a Twenty 20 tournament. So it isn't the format necessarily. However, speedway needs to think about how cricket attracted all that and carried out the marketing. Strangely enough, a lot of what you propose, and I agree with, already happens at most IOW meetings. If only BSPL would have a discussion with Barry and Martin about what works and what doesn't I'm sure they would be happy to help

  13. This would be the type of punter that would attend once and then probably never again I'd say the chances of becoming the desired regular fan would be increased significantly watching Emil as opposed to Simon Unfortunately I accept the cost of attracting more of the Emil type quality is beyond almost all of the current clubs

  15. Doesn't sound like a made up story just to get a few fans in to me. I don't think Glasgow are skint, and its been reported to the SCB. Could be another slap on the wrist for Poole. Twice in a month isn't it ? What's going on down there

  16. The shale seems to be very powdery so when wet it will be very slick - even slicker than normal which is saying something. Chris called it right, on these types of track the speed of the bike is the biggest factor in race wins because everyone rides them full throttle - now that might sound obvious but it's not always been that way. Looking at older races from yesteryear the tracks generally were much bumpier and the outside was for the bravest only as most riders would get into difficulty with the heavy shale. It's got too fast for its own good and the engine builders/tuners haven't helped. Nowadays if someone falls off because they 'took off' when hitting the grip near the fence, the solution, instead of riders avoiding that, is to slicken the track and make it easier to ride so it continues to be slicker and slicker.

  17. at least this GP must be up for a reward, most boring GP this season....absolute borefest....however there is still one to go Vojens, now this could quite easily take the award. On a serious note, does no one in power of the GP's look back in the debrief and think yep we fekked that up?

  19. Well he was correct. Scunny did have a chance of winning the league. Somewhere in the region of 0.000001%

  20. Agree but perhaps giving the punter what they want with a weekend race night does possibly reduce the odds of losing so much money. Speedway use to be a good weekend sport but alas circumstances dictate that it is not possible albeit NDL teams seem to cope. This is possibly why a rethink is necessary and perhaps go backwards first in order to progress. I would rather go to a Saturday evening meeting or a Sunday afternoon meeting than go mid week. Thursday is OK but after that having been brought up on Friday, Saturday and Sunday meets I would not bother with any weekday/ mid week racing. Just my view and others may feel different but promoters should race on nights which give them a best chance of a return on the asset/investment.

  21. Could Scunny make a shock move into the Premiership to keep it at 6 teams, sounds mad but Belle vue, Sheffield, Leicester and king's lynn would be decent crowds. Tai, Douglas, pickering, mpt, Allen, z.cook.

  23. UK speedway was never ran professionally & the great chance of creating a future was blown when the Sky money was wasted. The fact that the poles have a product that attracts huge crowds, investment form business & more than one tv company broadcasting the league live is down to their hard work & running the sport professionally.

  24. I'm sure Lambert will get a wildcard, Doyle probably less likely if he's the 4th best Aussie. I'm not saying it's right, but nationality makes a difference to who gets a pick.

  26. Hardly a case of not being “bothered” is it? It’s a rearranged fixture and the semi finals start next Monday so the fixture had to be squeezed in this week. They’ll have known riders had existing commitments Wednesday, but had little choice but to accept the fixture date.

  27. They would be away to the losing team out of Leszno or Bydgoszcz- it`s not called play-down at that stage it`s called Barrage

  32. In 2026 they are using a harder compound tyre in the extraleague which will in theory give the bikes less grip so engines will have to get de tuned to get more forward momentum, sounds good in practice and I hope this has been tested out and not just brought in and we have a situation like the solid block fiasco

  33. For me it needs a drastic race day shake up, much like The 100 has, it still mostly needs to be 4 riders over 4 laps on bikes with no brakes... but maybe 250cc? or even a combination of 500cc & 250cc. 15 heats over the course of nearly 2 hours just doesn't cut it in 2025 except for the few of us that still attend, there needs to be a mixture of race types, like you get if you go to a cycling meet, sprints, longer races... the guy on the silly bike thing 😂. What that would look like in Speedway? Handicap racing, devil take the hindmost, 1 lap dashes etc. all incorporated in a match generally made up of 4 riders, 4 laps, it needs variety and the riders need to be in full view of the public at all times, skulking back to the pits head down doesn't tend to work when you're in the entertainment business. 1 league, however many riders it takes in a team to make it viable, all committed to UK racing on race nights that suit the club/crowds. There's so much that could be done but of course it never will with the current crop in charge.

  34. And, to someone with a couple of young kids, who has heard of the sport but currently doesnt attend their local track due to the cost of admission... Simon Lambert is just as well known as Emil....

  35. What do you think speedway should do 'to go the way of cricket'? In some ways, speedway is already the motorsport equivalent of short form cricket, in that it is short bursts of activity with space for additional activity in-between. It's widely thought that The Hundred will be converted to a more usual Twenty 20 tournament once more of the franchises are bought by IPL owners. I'm in Poland at the moment, and went to a play off match at Leszno yesterday. The age profile of the crowd was significantly different to the UK, with much more crowd chanting, scarf waving etc. But it was all about the speedway - no 'novelty ' entertainment between races etc

  42. I would really not want anyone connected to me, racing on a track which has not been passed as safe by the governing body, and who has then gone looking for someone else to disagree and say it's safe. It reminds me of the joke about the passenger on a plane which was delayed for 4 hours. When he asked what was the reason for the delay, they said "The pilot heard a strange noise coming from one of the engines, and it will take us 4 hours to find another pilot who can't hear it".

  43. Who are the SCB to dictate to the SRBF who does and does not get funds!?! When the SRBF are giving out funds to tracks to provide them with the starting gate tower protectors and even paid for Ben Barker's hotel accomodation when his kid was in hospital having treatment to suggest that NORA riders would not be "entitled" to funds or benefits seems to be an overstep of their authority, surely it's down to the SRBF trustees and not the SCB, somebody seems to have ideas above their station and should not be meddling in SRBF affairs, absolutely disgusting!

  44. So after 4 seasons as a Director & Shareholder that's my time with Birmingham Speedway at an end. An eventful, at times stressful, at times farcical and at times enjoyable experience! A huge thanks to the small but loyal Brummie fanbase that put up with season after season of under performing teams, you deserved better! Full credit and my upmost respect to Nigel Tolley, he wasn't far short with the figures he quoted in the recent speedway star interview with what he invested in the club (there was also a six figure investment from other shareholders during the period I must add). Nigel is as mad as a (top) hatter, but I really like the guy. My only criticism of him (and he knows this, I told him enough times) is that he allowed himself to be influenced by others who failed to deliver for the club! Seeing the day to day finances and operations of the a Championship and then Premiership club is a real eye opener, so a massive thanks to Financial Director Tracey Smith, who somehow managed to juggle the finances to keep everyone happy (most of the time) a truly lovely lady, she has been the glue in a massively disjointed operation, which would have fallen apart without her. Some priceless moments over the 4 years on the management zoom meetings / race nights - I could write a book! You also learn a lot about riders, some smashing chaps around Paco Castagna (legend) Freddie Lindgren, Tobi M, Leon Flint, Sam Hagon, Jason Edwards, Thompson twins all really good guys! No comment about some mind Made some great friends, I will miss Guesty, Dave Rowe, Pete & Dan Ballinger, Chris Adams, the guys and girls from the supporters club and fellow shareholders Steven, Jake and Vic. Such a shame that Birmingham Speedway is no more, but without Nigel it wouldn't have got into 2023 let alone 2025 and for that alone he deserves the respect of those who knock him! Give us a B.....! Cheers Paul

  45. Everyone seems to be writing Belle Vue but I've got a sneaky suspicion that they will prove to be the surprise packet. They're the "sleeping giant" at the moment and Lemo will expect them to all raise their game come the play offs. Underestimate them at your peril.
