  1. Yes it is because the sport is run by the riders for the riders
    7 points
  2. The whole sport is based on what individual promoters want to do... They even pick their divisions to race in, even if clearly too strong, or nowhere near strong enough, for that particular league.. For a pro sport, there are simply too many people who see it as an expensive hobby, rather than a business, so therefore, because they spend so much for hardly any material financial reward, or even local public awareness of any "success" they may get, they make up rules to circumnavigate what a "normal proper pro sport" would allow, thus driving a coach and horses through the sports credibility... It is quite a ludicrous situation that people willing to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds then devalue the very competitions they want to win, however, you, can see why they want to win them, regardless of their stature, when they spend hundreds of thousands of pounds!! I cannot think of another pro team sport in the UK with such a small following, small financial reward, a lack of sponsors from "outside" the sport, and such a small amount of public recognition, both locally and nationally.. (And definitely no other team sport has such an incredible operating model)... It is truly ironic that the very people who "save the sport" by spending so much, (who all love speedway and are well meaning), are the very people that prevent growth, and higher finanical rewards for success, due to the way they run things... When all are focused in what is good for UK Speedway, and not necessarily what is ideal for themselves, the sport may have a chance of moving forwards... Seven figure costs are met by the promoters each season as a collective, on riders alone, so surely now is the time to get that huge, (and for such a small sport a truly incredible outlay), to work for the sports' growth?

  4. Not one of them is capable of trusting someone else, independent or not, to manage their finances or sporting affairs. Anyone who has had any nouse or enthusiasm for the bigger picture has historically been driven out of the BSPA/L even Phil Morris has capitulated and moved the goalposts two seasons in a row. We are following the Village Fete Committee and expecting them to run the Olympics- so, so sad.

  5. Kelvin and Chris are just taking the cash no interest in the riders and screaming “blimey that was scary”.No homework done “just never seen him ride”. Imposters.

  7. How many times will Louis Correct Tatum? He really does need replacing. An arrogant ex-schoolboy who thinks he knows better than most. 9/10 he's always wrong

  9. But if it’s a rule he should stick to it because if it happens to anyone else now he can’t exclude either

  10. If all of the promoters actually agreed to adopt the “suggestion” as an “agreement” it would end the riders demanding more who will continue to do so simply because in the meantime some promoters will continue to pay more than the “suggestion”. Of course even if the suggestion was adopted as a rule the challenge would be to prevent the same promoters working around the agreement/rule in search of glory and ignoring the basics of cost control for the betterment of the sport rather than their own interests.

  12. Wouldn’t say the track has been the problem so much Tuesday/Wednesday, the gulf between some of the nations is massive, not exactly going to see the finish lads mining it either the Aussies and the Dane’s were we. The top nations are so much faster than the other nations it makes it a bit of a non contest as they’re several bike lengths clear going into the first bend.

  13. Mostly voting with their feet. The tangible change the average fan can make is turning up weekly and putting their money in the till. By not doing so they’re showing they aren’t happy with the product. That’s when the supplier needs to step up and win them back. The sport isn’t doing that these days for the most part. There’s absolutely a negativity bias in the world but forums and social media can be the only place for fans to vent their frustrations.

  21. If they then changed the scoring from 4-3-2-0, to 3-2-1-0, then it would be perfect. Second and third should be ranked equal to first and last. only If there's a tie on points at the end of the night, do you count back including bonus points.

  23. If they make the track like this tomorrow night. Then Morris needs sacking. He's watched this shambles of a track tonight, so there is no excuses for tomorrow. i wouldn't hold my breath though. He and the others in charge have really shown how incompetent they are when it comes to preparing a track.

  27. Phil Morris isn’t the race director, and the young chap doing the job looks a bit out of his depth unfortunately.

  28. I'm not normally a big critic of Kelv. He does a decent enough job on the Premiership, but he's having a stinker this week. I know he's been thrust into the main commentator role, which was never his job, and he's having to commentate from a studio in London using the same (not great) pictures that we are getting, rather than being at the meeting. But he is very below par this week. He doesn't know who most of the riders are (including in the British team). Surely he could have done some research on the riders and jotted down a few talking points, rather than admitting to not knowing anything about them. Then again, our other British representative, Mr Morris, isn't covering himself in glory either. Rushing riders out with only 60 seconds to go, when one has only just had his bike returned to the pits. You get 60 seconds after a high speed crash, but Morris can stand out on the track for 15 minutes conducting unnecessary track grading and overwatering,

  30. Agreed. I'd like to see how he'd do if he swapped equipment with the Poles. Doesn't look that quick but is very effective and puts himself in the right places.

  35. Got to agree with this. Hitmen is one of the more original, better nicknames. Much better than the weak "just pick an alliterative animal or bird" nicknames. They should seriously have a rethink about this change. "BULLS HIT WITH POOR NICKNAME CHANGE"

  38. But what can we do as fans/supporters? I have said for a number of years, speedway is not 'squaring the circle' (cost wise), no pun intended. While you have riders expecting extreme fees/wages for their services, with a mediocre fan base, it's not financially sustainable/viable. The only chance for speedway to survive, is somehow, reduce costs for the riders and the fans. Otherwise speedway will need to 'shut up shop' in it's current format.

  40. This is a little story from the year after I finished, Buxton had a home match and had 2 riders missing as I think 1 was injured and the other rider had a match for his championship team on the same day so Buxton booked a guest, and used RR for the number 1, this guest was no superstar but it was the only rider really available, he wanted £35 per point plus Tavel plus a tyre plus fuel and he wanted a hotel for him and his Mrs as he was riding somewhere else the next day so was not going home, he was booked to ride at number 4 but on the morning of the match the championship match was called off so the number 4 was able to ride,so Buxton told the guest he would ride at number1 to which he said he wanted an extra £5 per point, for what exactly? ,the meeting was rained off anyway but he still wanted his hotel paid as he was still riding the next day, that was the sort of thing which killed off Buxton, well that and some teams paying gaurentees of £500 for their stars, I’m blowing my own trumpet here but when they had the chance the bspl should of put me in charge of the national league the day I retired.

  41. Well done to Germany. Stick by your values and it will come good. She may not have ridden for her country but was ready to compete if called upon. Team GB could learn a thing or two but only when Vatcher is kicked into touch. That waste of space of an individual needs to be eliminated from the sport. How he holds any position in the sport beggars belief. Needs replacing asap. Any former riders up for it.

  44. If they're transmitting a guy wearing a cap saying "F@#king Perfect" to the world, it is clear there is zero quality control on their output, as can be seen through the pictures and commentary, I don't know why people are so surprised 🤷‍♂️

  48. Only in speedway could a team accrue more points in the main meeting such as Ukraine and the team with fewer points in the Czech Republic qualifies for the final. No wonder few take this two wheeled sport seriously.
