  1. Luckily we dont care what opposing fans think. Brady will be here and 100% of aces fans will be very happy in deed. Happy new year

  2. Although, Garrity also spent more time in prison than Hitler, which makes you wonder…. Maybe he’s literally Hitler. Page 6. I thank you.

  3. I think just regular drug tests would see a few riders retiring quite quickly. Speedway is incredibly backwards in more ways than one.

  4. Would having 6 teams, with no lame ducks involved, bring back the possibility of salvaging a tv deal for 2026? The recent 7 team league, aided by the points limit, seemed to create a situation where two teams were basket cases almost from the start. 6 teams with the 37 point limit will hopefully produce better equilibrium. Last season it seemed like Louis and others strong-armed their needs through at the expense of creating two lame ducks, bully for them but it created a league that was a foregone conclusion soon after it began

  6. I doubt the sanity of any such venture. Why would the Oxford Cheetahs promoters risk diluting the interest in and attendances for Cheetahs matches, soon after ending a failed experiment. Unless they don't have any influence over it, which would still make it utter madness to attempt

  7. Genuine question, would it be viable to build a permanent stand around the 3rd / 4th bend so that they don’t have to spend tens of thousands for the temp stand, thus improving facilities and the look of the stadium. I know lots of people (including me) have light banter across the teams we support but if it is the home of British speedway it’s in the best interest for Britain to have an even better stadium, it would complete the look too IMO, just continue the stadium around the bend to connect the two stands, or is there reason they can’t?

  9. The bloke has done his time and should be allowed to earn an honest living. It wouldn't do the sport many favours to ban him. His crimes weren't anything to do with Speedway or the integrity of the sport. They don't merit a ban from the sport. I would expect all clubs to give him a wide berth though, someone signing him would go down like a fart in an elevator. I certainly wouldn't want him to ride for my club knowing what he did, rehabilitated or not. I would also question how he's funding any comeback. We're regularly reminded of the expenses facing Speedway riders. If he's able to fund equipment then he has a source of income which means he doesn't need speedway. Speedway certainly doesn't need him.

  10. He doesn't need to be banned - clubs will have to make their own moral judgement as to whether to employ him Fans then can make the same personal judgement as to whether to attend a meeting he is involved in I for one would not part with a penny to attend any meeting where he was riding

  11. Many congratulations to Poole Promoter Danny Ford and wife Daniella on the birth of their son Brody. Also great to hear Grandad Matt is moving back to UK (for babysitting duties??)🤩😇

  12. For me Louis will keep it on and run it. Australia would have been a good break to gather his thoughts. He will do the right thing and give the Ipswich fans another successful season

  15. You miss the point. We'd all love to earn money doing what we enjoy or are best qualified to do. Given the opportunity anyone would. The point is that doing what he enjoys or is most qualified to do is not his only option to make a useful contribution to society as is being presented by some on here. "If you don't let him ride he'll resort to drug abuse and crime". Utter nonsense. He very well might but that would be on him and not those who decided it wasn't appropriate to employ him. Imagine if we all resorted to drugs and crime if we didn't get what we wanted to do? The vast majority of us just get on with it. Nobody owes this lad a living because he's was a half decent speedway rider, If any promoter is happy enough to accept the negative publicity and risk associated with the lad then that's entirely up to them. If none are willing to do so then he should accept that as a consequence of his own misdemeanours and move on and find another way of being a useful member of society. Perhaps the best comparison is ex footballer Adam Johnson. He made a despicable mistake served his time and has moved on knowing that he'd never be able to do what he was best qualified to do such was the nature of his crime. To say Garrity should be given an opportunity despite the nature of his crime because it's what he does best shows a complete lack of empathy for the victims of his crime and indeed the general public. Who naturally don't like to see people who have behaved despicably being rewarded. I say fair play to any promoter willing to give him a chance. Hopefully he takes it and lives a successful life from this point forward. But let's be clear, any promoter who does so is taking a risk and Garrity should consider himself extremely fortunate to be given an opportunity he is most certainly not entitled to just because he happens to be good at it.

  18. No, far from it. But he is the only rider, as far as I know, that has robbed an elderly woman armed with knives whilst out of his head on crack cocaine. There have been many instances where a rider can come back from a drugs ban. Smarty came back from missing a season and a half and was better than ever after it. Roger Lobb made a successful comeback and Nick Morris seems to of done okay. I do think the ban should be longer for being caught under the influence and they should be tested every meeting for the rest of their career. People say its expensive but it really isn't, I was working in the mines in Australia a few years back and drug tests cost them next to nothing. It is mad how it gets out that drug testers are in attendance at tracks which causes riders to suddenly have a van break down on them. Its criminal how a plank like Garrity can do what he has and now seemingly has Havelock and Wilson backing him on his comeback whereas genuine decent lads with equal ability get next to nothing to help them.

  23. Don't forget Split Waterman, who was twice runner up in the World Championship. After Speedway he turned to a life of crime. Gold smuggling, lots of firearms in his house including two sub machine guns and dies for forging coins. He was also implicated with the Kray twins in a plot to murder a bloke, then imprisoned in Italy for possession of half a million quids worth of forged Spanish pesetas! What a character.

  24. With speedway on its arse at present would any club that signs him really want the possible publicity across the media especially if the nationals pick up on it?

  25. I seem to remember that now Triple H , Einar was pretty bad and how he didn't kill himself on the bike lord knows as he seemed to have a big smash every other week. I think that 15 point max got him over the six point average that was required at the time to come back the following year, me and my mate were hoping he would fall below six so Martin Rogers would be forced to go with someone new rather than the same old faces who fitted the budget but were generally 4-5 point men and none showing signs of getting better. Richard Knight used to be unbeatable when he came with Ippo but he turned into a seven point man at Lynn I think in hindsight it was just that we were so bad for 3-4 years we made Knighty look a lot better than he really was. I also remember Steve Redgeling starting to make progress then in one meeting (poss Oxford on a bank holiday) he was leading and both his front forks collapsed leading to one hell of a pile up, after that he never really went onto the next rung of the ladder which given the severity of the pile up was understandable.

  27. At the start of this phase when Chris announced 'the sale' I thought that was actually the end game after a bit of brinkmanship Now I'm not thinking that at all - although in many ways it would seem like the best option (certainly for the club, the fans and probably the sport) I no longer think Chris sees it as the best option for him, even at the risk of not running at all I believe Ipswich will run one way or another - only time will tell who by

  28. https://www.racingpost.com/greyhounds/arc-acquire-lease-at-suffolk-downs-al3Lk1j7eOjh/ Well he's lost Mildenhall, alot of staff have left Oxford due to unpaid work apparently. I'm hearing he's selling his race horses to get some money in. He's in a right mess financially by all accounts. But then he was last year and the clubs finished the season so let's hope for the same next season

  29. Crazy prices for Speedway the last meeting I went to was a fair few years ago but was a world team cup qualifying round at Lynn, Hamill came back to help the USA out so I mainly went to see him one last time, it was £15 a head and there must have been north of five thousand there with a great atmosphere. I can't remember the year but £15 to £200 over possibly a decade is bonkers.

  30. With the Premiership down to just five teams, wouldn't the 2026 season be perfect for Speedway GB to at last bring back a proper 5 Test "Speedway Ashes" Series against the Aussis?

  31. He could pull the plug on the Cheetahs if that also becomes unviable. There's maybe a couple of self imposed BSPL rules that could be broken. 1. A club with no home riding at another track 2. Another promotion running within the 25(?) mile range of another promotion
    1 point
  32. It’s not directly up to the Oxford Cheetahs promotion. That’s run by Jamie Courtney whereas the Oxford Stadium lease is held by Kevin Boothby. If someone offers Boothby a hefty chunk of change for the right to run a Premiership team at Sandy Lane then there’s little Courtney can do about it.

  35. Different times anyway though, In this age of cancellation you don't even have to be found guilty of a crime to be cancelled. Speedway is currently so low profile it probably wouldn't make much difference anyway 🤷‍♂️

  36. A few weeks back me and another person contacted entain via monmore green to see if there was any chance of getting wolves back at monmore, nothing to do with the previous promotion, there was a plan on the email which I won’t go into but we spoke to the manager at the stadium who told us it wasn’t the stadium who kicked the speedway out it was entain themselves, he told us to write an email to entain and he would forward it to the relevant people for us, we had a reply today from entain via the stadium manager and it’s a NO 🥲 at this present time, sorry wolves fans, never give up

  38. It’s simple, riders ambitions are not centred on a career in UK Speedway nowadays as compared to the Past.

  39. Let's just hope he grasps the opportunity he's been presented with. Having Wilson & Havelock backing him can only because good thing. The argument he should find work elsewhere, when has has proven ability at speedway & no legal bar to do it doesn't seem especially bright. As to his future when he eventually retires, well that's purely up to him. Hopefully a good few years racing will lead him down a path that sees him stay clean. Once again, one person drug free & contributing has to be better than the alternative for everyone from JG to every tax payer in the country.

  40. While fans crow about woffinden dudek laguta, madsen and riders like that not riding in England, we should really be looking at riders like woryna, drabik, buckowski and locatiev, these type of riders while not exactly are at the top are all action out and out racers who don’t give an inch, I love watching these riders in the polish leagues and would love to see them over here where I believe fans would love their no nonsense racing

  42. I’m afraid there will always be people sympathetic to his self imposed plight thinking he deserves a second chance. The man had huge support when he was involved with Belle Vue and abused that. He had a second chance when he rode for Rye House and abused that. Ask Havvy about his antics when he rode for Coventry - another “second chance - and about his long term shoulder (?) injury that kept him away. Yet another “second chance” was when he was released on licence and was recalled for breaching the conditions. Many years ago, a charity of which I was a trustee set out to help people who had been involved with the criminal justice system, particularly those who had been imprisoned for drug related crimes. We quickly realised that prison had not rehabilitated them and all too many returned to their old ways, and would say whatever they felt needed saying to get their own way. I fear the journalist how wrote the piece in the Star was a victim of such tactics - put simply, was he conned? Anyone tempted to help Garritty needs so have an over abundance of caution and resilience. Some people don’t change.

  43. Prison is there to punish and rehabilitate. He's done his time, now we've got to hope the rehabilitation works. He has experience in two things - Speedway and crime. If we don't want him to return to crime, we need to push him down the path of an honest future. Sadly it seems the "Holier Than Thou" brigade want to push him down a path of crime, so they can say "I was right".

  44. Let him/her/they/them, without sin cast the first stone. Not condoning anything he has done. Can anyone with hand on heart say they have never been given a second chance?
    1 point
  45. The alternative in not allowing him to do what he plainly has a skill for is to assign him to the scrapheap, which only increases the chances he'll relapse & end up back on drugs & no doubt crime to support that habit. Better to give him the opportunity to redeem himself, become a useful & contributing member of society & if that means he gets the opportunity to race speedway again, that is the right thing to do, IMHO.

  46. He had the chance before and blew it. Including when he stole other riders possessions from changing rooms. Leopards don’t normally change their spots and he will prove this once again. Anyone who takes him on has got to be desperate.

  47. The old saying "If you can't do the time don't do the crime" will ring loud However he has & he did & he's far from the first to serve time in one of their Majesty long stay hotels. His offence was nothing to do with his past speedway life & should not cause issue with his future within speedway. Other riders have commited drug or alcohol offences whilst racing & have returned to the sport with little fuss. They were given their second chance so why not Jason Garrity

  48. Fair play to Poole for usually managing to attract the exciting prospects. Shame they do the absolute minimum (and that's only when forced to) to help with the development of these youngsters.
