  1. Not a mention of the sterling work that speedway futures Ltd habe done behind the scenes, not a mention of who the new Ipswich owners are if indeed there are any, a statement that told us very little but what did we expect really ? You don’t need to wait for an AGM to fix a problem and it’s clear they have no idea how to fix the sport, carry on doing the same and pound to a penny they haven’t addressed any issues of cost either for riders and more importantly the long suffering dwindling fan base

  2. Have seen this suggestion made 2 or 3 times It just doesn't make any sense! If he wanted to be involved he wouldn't be selling Ipswich

  3. Adrian Smith couldn't believe the way the sport was ran,, and tried to ensure the Aces, (at least), were ran with credibility.... He did this as he listened to fans on his many walkrounds during the meeting... He, like so many others with actual vision, eventually gave up, as he knew the capability simply wasn't there amongst so many of the others to drag the sport up to its potential... Another good person, who understood the modern world, lost to the sport...

  4. The AGM news is being published at 6pm tonight

  5. One Million Percent... There should have been soundbites from Promoters leading up to the meeting, putting forward, in a positive way, what they would like to see from the AGM... Giving it some importance and resonance... And then. On the day. Photos taken of all there and shared via all SM outlets, including one as a collective all together... Then, last evening, a statement (again positive), should have been put out, even if it was only to acknowledge the meeting took place, a generic update as to what's agreed, and that a further statement with detail is forthcoming in the next "x" hours.... Do they actually have a PR person? Edit. Did the meeting actually take place? Which, as we don't know, probably answers my question re any PR person....

  6. Sorry Wookieboy Don , I strongly disagree. In view of the parlous state of UK speedway, an interim statement should have been issued to all media channels . If nothing else to confirm that the meeting has at least taken place yesterday ! Sadly this poor PR typifies the running of the sport in the UK nowadays. A publicity opportunity lost.

  7. Well.... The Epiphany has passed... And, I presume, the Three/Four/Five/(Six?) Wise Men, have returned home?.. Any news from them? Worth the long trip?... Did they bother visiting in the end?... Certainly no photos taken of them in the stable/hotel.... Nor any mention of them arriving in the various Gospels of Social Media.. I have just opened up the Bible of GB Speedway, at page one, and all it tells me is... "Lo, and so it did pass, Saint Jack Holder leadeth the way in the Land of the Convicted Ones, at the ends of the Earth"...

  8. Personally I would give under 24 British riders a bigger reduction across the board to encourage teams to sign them

  9. Underwhelming statement when big changes and ideas where needed rather than go with the same old tired system if one of the 5 teams close mid season the whole league collapses .

  10. Having just seen the AGM Statement.I'm glad I dont support the Prem. The decisions made have no real change to last season and dont seem to look forward to the future of Speedway in the coming seasons. They still dont know if a Sixth team will enter the Prem, slight adjustment to the finishing order of the league, and a possible new tournament and it took them 3 months to come up with this drivel for 2026. No 3 or 5 year plan going forward,an absolute shambles of an AGM,just papering over the cracks. New Directors to the Board, what are they going to bring, and this Commitee of an MP and Harry Redknapp, that is absolute bollocks, they have no interest in promoting Speedway in the near future.

  11. So the same 5 teams that were odds on to start this season, last October, are confirmed. Couldn’t they have told us that news then. That would have at least given us 2 extra months to rip into them for being useless… which they are 🙄

  12. Business as usual then. Not for me. NDL it is!!

  15. A relief. Still begs the question, who will be running it..

  17. Unfortunately that's what has been allowed to happen, yes when you make it and ride for a few teams more bikes/ personal are required, but how many youngsters now believe that they can be/ are full time speedway riders scoring a couple of points at reserve. Think some riders need a job and ride speedway as a paid hobby

  18. Absolutely nothing regarding a short medium or long term plan. Just another sticking plaster on a gaping wound. the good ship speedway titanic is on its way to the sea bed while captain Godfrey has his fingers in his ears while ordering master bates to rearrange the deck chairs.

  19. Unless they lose money on the POSF!!! This was my first thought too... One less "proper meeting" for the winners of the league itself? Maybe there is a decent financial prize this year for finishing top?? I am not holding my breath...

  20. My guess is there's not going to be one as neither will happen.

  21. What a low key statement with many questions still unanswered and nothing really to address the future of the sport other than business as usual. ... a possible 6th team 🤷‍♂️ ... a possible 3rd competition in the PL, maybe they're going to finish the Jubilee Trophy off?

  22. What I expected really.. eff all! Nothing to look forward to (not that I was going to attend anyway) Hardly a press release to spark optimism or a future vision.

  25. And that is the frustration many fans feel... So many "basic things" simply don't get done... An AGM is obviously for "The Shareholders", however, being, in particular, a team sport where Promoters require an emotional investment from "The Stakeholders", then their communication out to these "Stakeholders" is vital, as, by not communicating to them could give the impression they are irrelevant to you and your business... Very, very, basic business practice..

  26. Similarly Wookieboy Don as you can probably guess, my team closed down way back when and I have been a roaming supporter of various clubs around London and the Sout East clubs until my health and patience and lack of clubs enforced my retirement. The last vestiges of any competitive speedway in the SE now appear to have been snuffed out at Kent "Eagles". I remain very critical of the BSPL who seem to operate their businesses as almost a secret society, unable or unwilling at EVERY opportunity to use the power of the media to publicise the sport. A few more press releases would at least get out the message that there is speedway still in existence in the UK.

  27. Parole Officers too, will be involved... I worked alongside them until all "time served" was spent... Curfews, Tags, etc needed to be discussed given the late hours some of my staff would work... No condoning what he did in any way shape or form, however, someone addicted to "Class A" drugs will truly do almost anything to get their hands on the money to fund their habit.. I had some truly horrific stories from lads I took on as to the depths they reached, with, to be honest, their home backgrounds and their ultimate recovery being truly humbling for me given the challenges they faced "getting clean"... There truly is an incredible "dark sub culture" in the country which, having worked with plenty of social workers too over the years, is far more prevalent than most, who live well outside this world, would ever imagine..

  30. Pleased to see that we will have Gilkes as our rising star. He was impressive in his short stint last year before getting injured. The Lions have been carrying their No.7 for the last couple of seasons, so fingers crossed we will now have someone who can chip in with a few points.

  32. Not so. The press release includes all leagues. The part about returning clubs was not league specific.

  34. I'm pleased they've changed the rule on the Championship Pairs Final, that'll stop the thousands on here protesting it... In all seriousness, the rule change on returning British riders is a decent idea. You couldn't really hope for much more from the rest, given the situation we're in.

  35. The answer is surely clear - the rules say only one rider OVER 8 so whether CC is 7.99 or 8.00 is irrelevant. Workington can welcome him back……

  41. Given that there's a real danger the current Premiership champions might not come to the tapes next year I think people are right to be impatient. Any business worth its salt would have had a holding statement ready at least by now.

  42. The meeting only happened yesterday and yet so many are complaining that no information has been released yet. Unfortunately we live in an age where you can find out anything on your phone within seconds and people now think that applies to everything in life. FFS, nobody has any patience anymore. Given how important the meeting was it's going to take a little while to collate everything together. When they want you to know what happened, then you'll find out.

  43. There are certain stipulations... Working with kids isn't allowed for those convicted of sexual crimes against them for example... Riding a Speedway Bike again won't have too many stipulations I would imagine...

  44. Tyres are provided by the home club for both sets of riders. They are marked for the specific meeting and handed out on the day so that no one can bring their own specially prepared tyre. Fuel and oil are the responsibility of the rider to provide their own. (Although they may have it in their deal that it's provided by the club or via a sponsor).

  48. I remember him giving an interview 5 or 6 years ago saying that doubling up needed to be phased out for the integrity of the sport. Nothing has happened in that regard. I guess there comes a time where if you cannot influence change for the greater good, you pack up & head off in to the sunset. Just as we all would.
