There is no indication of not running, they will continue as sole promoters it states.2 points

Lawson would be a quality signing in a watered down PREM. Consistently had GSA's ranging from 6.50-7.00 in the British Top Flight whether it's the old Elite League Days or the modern era PREM. Majority of the PREM in 2026 is basically CHAMP Heat Leader standard with a few Aussie GP Riders thrown in and we all know that Lawson and Masters are the two best riders in the CHAMP.2 points

I suppose that riders and team managers having a "full and frank exchange of views" isn't necessarily the termination of the relationship, as with any workplace. Probably just SD's way of trying to get the best out of Kemp, the old "kick up the backside" approach. I think Brian Clough used to have a long-serving player who used to question Clough's match tactics. He would invite the player into his office for a cup of tea and a chat, "at the end of which he would agree with everything i said".2 points

They did say that it wasn’t signed and sealed - I guess they were in a position where they had to declare that they were racing and so had to hope it came off1 point

I agree, which makes Kildermand a shrewd signing as there is only six or seven riders with a higher starting average than him in this years championship.1 point

Just can’t see a world where Lawson isn’t riding in the Premiership so it’s surely either Ipswich, or mystery team number 6.1 point

As an Arena fan always have a huge amount of time for 'awesome Richard Lawson' solid and reliable wherever he rides!1 point

The one positive on things is Mrs Godfrey can be looking through the Catalogue to see what colour she'd like the Wooden spoon in this year 😉1 point

Unless there are some big surprises that doesn’t look a Top 4 Team .IMO Happy to be proved wrong though.1 point

With only 5 teams, you'll likely find out a lot earlier than October!!!😆 PS. What about Rich Lawson for the Witches?1 point

In other more important speedway news, up the man cave where many speedway subjects get discussed but not solved we have got some new teabags and not just the 5000 for 50p catering ones we have previously had, oh no we have Yorkshire tea ones, I personally are beside myself with excitement at this news, this can only enhance the topics debated, which today are wolves, cradley and rider being stabbed in the back by former mechanic (not literally) and any other gossip we have1 point

100% agree on this and it's about following others. Someone will get a new tuner or designer part and win a couple of races and then the sheep follow. There are so many examples of this: tall seats, magura-type levers, expensive clutch plates, front forks, tubeless tyres, ignitions and then engine parts or short stroke engines which someone says gives an additional 1 hp which they then have to deal with as the bike 'spins up' on the track. Then there's rider things like dangling the right leg ("it worked for Zmarzlik so that must be why he's multi world champion") rather than sitting further back or getting a longer seat, dropping the clutch repeatedly on the start line (which makes absolutely no difference to their start) and lots of others.1 point

He certainly has experience and can gate. Mind you so can Kemp. If he can get over the pulling up at the back he could still do a job. I guess the question would be who has the most improvement in them?1 point

Well will be an interesting signing that’s for sure. A hard racer but from what I’ve seen of him racing in Aus is he spends a fair amount of time on the floor or in the fences. also he was the rider that wiped Chris holder out in his first meeting in Aus this season. I think Berwick may be a bit of a challenge for him to start with1 point

Pursuit of Speed is not the main factor on speedway bike.IMO Its about set up,large numbers of riders waste money paying tuners for something they can’t ride too it’s potential.1 point

Would like to know what his idea that sets him apart is. He was part of the leadership team that screwed over Birmingham and Oxford. Come and join os and we will share top riders, then sign them all up and leave them both without established number 1’s. He was part of the group that wrongly stopped Freddie’s debut at Brum ironically against Ipswich, screwing over Tolley again. As far as I can see he has been a part of the problem.1 point

Without Doyle and the Russian, Ipswich will be pony this season. Gavan and the Witches fans will have given up by the time Wimbledon starts. The new bloke will be thinking this is a big mistake. Oh well thats speedway!1 point

Interesting article in this weeks Star written by Lukasz Chrzanowski on how the world’s richest speedway league is slowly killing the sport and highlights how Britain, Germany and Sweden are struggling and economically outgunned when in Poland a reserve is paid more than heat leaders in other countries. Whatever happens the sport in the UK needs to go its own way and offer the public what it can realistically afford and if that means starting again and building talent from within so be it. The top riders find it easier to move equipment around mainland Europe and mechanics can travel by road to most places so why add to the cost by racing in the UK and given the extra expenses riders financial demands will only go one way, the question would be how long can the sport over here meet those costs.1 point

It depends on what constitutes "huge" over decades. sure the sum over 20 years looks big but when viewed as an annual spend its not huge by any stretch of the imagination. Its not clear if you mean a couple of million spent on riders each year is the figure per team or in total but at an an average of around 150k per club per year (low) or 280k per rider (high). If it is the former and being on the low side even a figure double that, is not remotely big. By and large todays promoters spend what income they generate from gate receipts, sponsorship and media deals and cover small losses (200k is small) as their interpretation an an investment. sure it keeps the sport going which we should be thankful for, but in no way does it create the prospects for growth. What's lacking is additional working capital (cash) investment by the promoters in significant marketing & PR (so folk do know who the riders are), and the improvement of the meeting experience which (besides a few exceptions) is woeful with sub standard presentation. The reason its not done is for two linked reasons. 1, The promoters don't know what great promotion (marketing & PR) is and 2, They don't have the money and so rely on keen and willing volunteers to help out rather than being able to invest in engaging full time professional PR, marketing & sponsorship agencies. Also, worth considering that there is a need to promote at the national level (BSPL) and at the local level (individual promoters) in a coordinated and cohesive manner at a much greater level than is currently undertaken.1 point

I remember the back of the star always had a team on it with the captain labelled as ‘ on machine’ . That was your team with your riders. You were attached to them. Nowadays it’s a free for all . A pay day for the rider. That rider could be doing his own team damage by winning with his guested team. Just dosent add up in a professional sport.1 point

1986 - in the British League the Stars won only two away matches (Reading and Swindon), and lost all at home. They had won two and drawn two at home in the League Cup, but lost all away. 85, 86, and 87 were three consecutive Wooden Spoons for the Deadbeets. Kevin Brice was one of those remarkable riders who kept going whatever happened. At Foxhall we called him Binary Brice because his score chart was often just ones and noughts 🙂1 point

Jammy dodgers were what they were hoping for but when garibaldi came up as an option most round the table thought that was the new Italian track hosting a GP. Another promoter thought the Penguins were the Icelandic national team. Just shows what the British fans have to contend with. Roll on the end of the season and the contrived play offs. Home and away twice with an aggregate bonus point for finishing third out of two. Yep sums up speedway in the UK. Did someone mention Fred Carno1 point

Now that the septet is complete I think we can all agree that this is a superb team put together by Stewart and co. First things first it’s great to see Jye back and with the captains armband and I’m glad Stewart and the promotion could see the mistake they made by letting him leave for Workington last season. A Bandits legend and one who will continue to beat anyone and everyone around Sheilfield. Reid looks an exciting prospect from what I can see and I’m sure him and the Jack Smith will soon become one of the best reserve pairings in the league. Combine that with a big hitting top 3 and the ever improving Lasse and I can’t fault the team at all. If we manage to avoid the bad luck that has haunted us over the past few seasons then I don’t see why this team can’t challenge for some silverware.0 points

Literally anybody that is willing to do 4 laps! I'm not interested in what he's done for Berwick, for Leicester, my team, last season, he failed to finish more races than the rest of the team combined!0 points
