He was fantastic wasn’t he? Had an aura, the X factor. His form dipped in his final year here by his high standards but it wasn’t through lack of effort or commitment. I’m sure I wasn’t alone when he first signed wondering how many meetings he’d miss and how much effort would he put in, but I needn’t have been concerned! Class act.5 points

The monthly contract is for the full season its just spreading the cost over 7 payments for a small uplift instead of paying the one off price. That's how i read it3 points

They could just go along to a track and enjoy the speedway and ignore all the "faff" around the sport. It's still 15 heats (weather etc permitting) 4 blokes (typically) doing 4 laps (typically) and the team with the most points at the end wins.3 points

Yes his three year work visa expired and it was apparently very expensive to renew. He done the three years of his visa, won medals in both the Cup and Premiership, so things all came to a natural end.3 points

A sport, in the UK, simply set up for a few dozen riders so they can earn money... And set up so some people, with enough money, can have an expensive hobby which they love being a central part of... The fans being invited along to help subsidise the costs, and keep them within reason for the person whose hobby it is... UK Speedway is no more than this.. The BSN package looks excellent value for money for "generic fans", who just enjoy watching Speedway without bothering too much who wins and who doesn't.. Hope they have a good season with plenty of subscribers.3 points

Agree with the ‘live’ sentiment but that is becoming increasingly more costly and those with limited disposal income will forsake that and frankly with the way some meetings are drawn out, I would suspect many would rather be at home than standing on a chilly terrace in stadiums with poor facilities, expensive food and drink plus toilets that are some of the worse you can find and you can have all that for an entry fee of £20+. That’s probably why some people no longer attend because the supporter is a secondary inconvenience to the people who run the sport. Just look at the way they have conducted themselves in the close season.3 points

They didn't even have to be up to the job... just British (ish) and willing 😂2 points

It's March 1st on Sunday. If we don't hear nothing by then, I think we can presume things are not going to plan...2 points

I was actually rounding it up with you in mind 😃. You boys with super inflated pension pots will take no harm. As a former British Steel deferred pensioner I was seriously shocked at the size of the transfer value amounts some of you boys at TSP had . I have already tipped Andrew off to work on you as a possible Premium Sponsor 💰🤣2 points

Expensive week... good job BSN got in first, £270 for my season pass, £693 for my GP tickets... will I have enough left over for my Northampton season ticket? 🤔2 points

I think its funny, adds a bit of light heartedness to this mainly negative forum. Just ignore it if you dont like it2 points

Those were the days , for music, fashion, massive crowds at speedway, everything. Top tune Everlasting Love. I remember when Joe Johnson from Bradford became world snooker champion in the 80s. He brought out a cover of that song. It wasn’t bad to be fair though obviously not as good as Love Affair.2 points

A great song... along with another classic of theirs... "Everlasting Love" They don't make 'em like that anymore... and haven't for a long long time...!2 points

Unfortunately the 1-6 is true. Forum member has posted a reply from facebook in regards to the BSN PREM Pass and TV rights for the forthcoming season. Safe to say that the BSPL are in a hole that they can't get out of this time.2 points

So Mr. New Speedway Fan......hope you had a good Christmas. I bet you are very keen to see your first speedway action. It's late February, as you know, and the wheels will be spinning very soon...wow bet the excitement is difficult to control. So what's in store for you?...Well the top Division (Premiership) is still, as you were informed months ago, based on 5 teams - yes just 5 with lots of talk about Northampton making it up to a mind blowing six participants, but that could be a load of cobblers. But if true 6 teams in one league must have you aching to see your first speedway. If you want more variety of teams the Championship can offer you the choice of a massive 9 teams - be warned though a few riders will be competing in both divisions it's a speedway thing. No other sport offers such double dealings. Anyway before the season starts teams will be sorting out how they can be made up via the well loved 'averages' system. If you are keen enough to read this forum you will seen very many budding Einstiens or Newtons doing the maths to aid their team make ups. Hope you understand this ' averages' stuff it's supposed to stop any one team dominating the season. No sorry I can't explain much more on that issue. So anyway roll on to tapes up my friend, bet your even more excited after reading this. Choose which team is local enough to support and get your £25 ready....oh and bring a friend. Happy Speedway.2 points

He’d made a home here for sure. People will always be a bit suspicious when riders say they won’t ride anywhere else though. We all know money talks. Pretty sure we’d have been his priority though. Still think we might see him later in the season…2 points

I could be wrong but I thought Doyle announced he wouldn’t be racing in this country well before Kurtz and Bewley were announced. And he’s never really been a one club man has he . Like Danny King etc … and Bomber 😁2 points

Why am I getting images of a courtroom in my head with Hamish festooned in wig and gown, pacing hands behind his back during a cross examination2 points

I don't think theres anything to read into there. They will probably just do a prem play offs pass in September 🤷♂️2 points

That does seem good value for 48 meetings and being able to spread the cost will encourage a few more punters. Well done to BSN2 points

Thanks. i was just trying to understand the cost comparisons and the whole experience if for example in both cases an overnight stay or two nights stay was necessary with travelling costs etc. adding in food etc. Not an exact science but the one thing that the U K cannot compete on with for example a Polish GP where in terms of the size of the crowd and the atmosphere it is far superior but obviously smaller venues may probably go head to head and be comparable. I still feel the ticket prices are over the top for what you are getting but that is just a personal opinion, others may think otherwise. Anyway enjoy the meeting and savour the memories. Long may a GP be held in GB.1 point

Possibly but I go to the GPs for the experience not necessarily the racing, got tickets for Wrocław GP because the experience is amazing1 point

I don't do facebook so thanks for the info that you've posted. No point in signing up for a PREM pass imo considering it's not a season pass at this moment in time. Assuming the Play-Offs happen on BSN then we'll probably have to pay an extra £30-£40 for the 4 Play-Off Meetings if it's a 5 Team League so may as well hold off for that.1 point

I'll start.... I see your £15k and raise it by twenty pounds... Could be a long thread this... I seem to remember the bond has changed down the years with the last I heard it being £50k.. However, I also seem to remember it changing into assets also being part of the bond, rather than just cash, hence new promoters in particular were encouraged to make riders into their assets.. (Which also often meant more, unattached in the UK, overseas journeymen coming over who became as asset. Great for UK rider development!!).. Obviously, there are no assets anymore, so if a track closes the BSP no longer inherits the riders and are, therefore, no longer able to either loan or sell them to other teams to help pay the debts of the closed track.. I can't believe the bond is £50k though anymore to be honest, given so few people seem interested in coming into the sport to promote... £15,025, my final bid...1 point

They responded to that point on facebook: "British Speedway are still in talks with several broadcasters in regards to the Premiership Play-Offs so for now they are not included. The Premiership Pass has a small price increase this year with the same amount of meetings as last year" With that said I'm going to hold off on subscribing in case it gets added to a service I already pay for.1 point

Well I have just paid up. £38.99 a month for 7 months is a no brainer as it’s the only way to watch UK speedway other than attending. It’s far better than Eurosport for production and the commentators know what they are talking about. Looking forward to seeing what the first batch of matches will be.1 point

How have you taken that from the statement? Cause they aren't showing the prem play offs?1 point

Maybe they have been trying to get riders to compete as they didn't have enough to make a decent Championship?... They could have been spending months working in the background to see if Bjorn Knutsson could come out of retirement and be able to get some gear together in time and ride....1 point
