The Brafield team of the 1950's and 60's were called the Badgers. Given that Badgers are mostly seen dead on their ar$es they do share some other similarities with those who run British Speedway. They have very poor vision and they are creatures of habit who will follow the same paths for generations despite the dangers and do not adapt well to changes in their territory. Badgers would be ideal. All we need is a Bodger to manage the mashed potatoes.8 points

It's to help the teams, press agencies, the BSPA etc get content they can use in their social media posts. It is a useful resource to be fair. The BSPA used interviews from the press day to pad out the British Speedway Podcast throughout the season for one example.4 points

In effect it was , he ran a "sh*t show" & in my opinion he was a stain on the history of the club.4 points

They set the whole show up pretending it’s real and film it, I had a stall right behind them at the classic off road show a few weeks back, a 2 day event, they turn up on the Sunday for a couple of hours, set a fake stall out, pretend to buy/ haggle with someone for their own stuff film it then film them buying a cup of tea and then pack up and leave, all done in a couple of hours, nothing new most tv is scripted and fake, they not inventing the wheel3 points

It wasn't that much better actually being there... Parade advertised for 18:50, they came out just before 19:00, did a lap of the track on the back of fancy bikes, lined up in front of the crowd and then just got on their bikes and did a load of practice starts, Tapes Up advertised 19:00, 2 minutes went on at 19:11. The announcer reading out the line-up often only read it out once after giving the result of the previous race and often read it out incorrectly. For the first section of the meeting it seemed to be being dictated around the BVTV coverage, which we in the crowd couldn't hear anyway with the ref seemingly not knowing where the 2 minutes button was. Fortunately the Speedway was pretty entertaining... the rest, must do better!3 points

Dean,It is a sign and tin can religion for some disciples of Mr Cole, you cannot persuade a "believer" that is no more real than TOWIE. We are out there regularly selling/trading/auction bidding, all of the things that are purportedly done on the TV shows and know the difference between fake and real, we don't turn up at 10a.m. after our staff has set up the "stall", spend 2 hours signing autographs .taking selfies and selling the odd trinket, and then bu***r off, we do not visit established businesses like Andy Tiernan, Veralls, Yeomans etc. and pretend we are buying at a bargain price from collectors, nor pretend we made a profit on "sold" items which quite often in later shows can still be seen in the background of the shot weeks after ! It is reality TV, the true "nice little earner" is the fee that gets paid for the show by the TV companies . Here is an actual Video taken by Euan Bentley ( excellent youtube channel) of what actually goes on at a HC stall, see any buying/selling, between filming from his own crew.2 points

I don't know.... Moan. Moan. Moan... That's all Speedway fans do... Anyhow, whilst on that topic, (and all valid comments by the way)..... You can add the Sam Masters/Adam Ellis - Who is who? Ruined a few programmes that.. Adam being in Ipswich kevlars probably the main clue it wasnt Sam.. The interviews were attempted once from the big screen but it just sounded like there was a gale force wind blowing through and you couldn't hear what was being said... So it didnt happen again.. My 22 year old lad summed up the overall presentation with this comment... "Everything Speedway does is always a little bit sh*t, but funny, isn't it?".. (He was particularly impressed with the "pallet podium").. PS. Good to see the usual taxi load (seven seater to be fair) of Sheffield fans in attendance, and they seemed to take some pleasure in giving Kurtz some stick... Hope they enjoyed the final... All in all, a good nights entertainment if you were there for the racing, and, like most Speedway fans do automatically now, made allowances for the overall presentation levels..2 points

Wasn't there two Horton's and the other one took over Peterborough cleared the debts and led a successful era for 2-3 seasons before he got bored of underwriting the losses or was that the Frost fella ?2 points

Just to give a slightly different view of last night from an attendee. Yes, the delayed start was a bit frustrating and clubs should run to time. Yes, the centre green presenter seemed a little quiet, but Chase always makes up for that Given the amount of rain they had clearly had Andy Meredith and team provided an excellent race surface. The first few races did serve to turn the top surface over, but the racing imprived as the night progressed. Some were as good as any I expect to see elsewhere any time this season. I don't remember there being any fallers or race stoppages, other than a couple of tapes infringements. It wasn't apparent to me that there were delays in the meeting caused by catering for BVTV. Overall,I thought it was a more than acceptable first meeting of the season for me. Chris Holder exceeded my expectations, and, being an old traditionalist, I think he should have won with a 15 point max - but then we would have missed out on a top quality final with Holder and Bewley passing each other until Bewley established a lead and won. Could the whole meeting have been run better? Could all the entertainment around the racing have been slicker? Yes to both, but Belle Vue are not alone in being a bit lacking in that. If the remainder of the meetings I see this season are as good as last night then I will be happy2 points

To up the excitement level why not give michelsen or thomsen etc a go . They’d up the viewing figures. There’s always bomber. He’d probably turn up if asked.2 points

A really good first meeting of the season for me. Bewley looked a little sluggish early on (by his standards), but what a final! The track held up to the weather very well despite the earlier rain and there was some great, brave racing. Kurtz / Fricke and then Bewley / Holder were hard but fair with each other and the meeting got better the further it went. Credit to Chris Harris as well - never gives less than 100%.2 points

I believe that Benjamin "Sprouts" Netanyahu won't be included this season...2 points

What an opportunity.... It would be like the Masked Singer... Seven riders, and, one by one... "Take it off! Take it off!"... Harry Redknapp and Linda Lusardi as the judges guessing the identities...2 points

Could have been Luke Becker as the replacement if America hadn't started an illegal war with Iran 😂 ... I presume the FIM will be banning all American and Israeli riders from all of their events 🤔2 points

It's certainly a strange thing to say. I re read it a few times, but am still wondering what he means by that! The other part of the article that struck me, was the explanation of why they were so desperate to invent the 6th team. In a 5 team league where the top team goes straight to the playoff final, riders may find it preferable to finish second or third in order to get 2 extra meetings. If that's the ethos of professional sportsmen that represent their teams, how can you expect fans to invest in it? I know I'll be accused of being negative or moaning, but while I sincerely hope that Northampton and the season as a whole is a success, it does smack of desperation.2 points

It would be good if there was a partnership within the sport with the necessary skills to handle the long term negotiations when planning, funding and building a multi million pound, purpose built speedway stadium. They would be gold dust currently and rightly cosseted by the sports hierarchy.2 points

While these 2 and their fake tv programs should not be ignored they appeal to the old generation and they are not the future of speedway, we need to be looking to influencers, now don’t get me wrong imo they are useless twats but for some reason they appeal to the yoof and that’s where we need to be looking2 points

Both Swedish and Danish teams do this. Typically the free meeting gets around double the usual crowd. Not sure that there is much evidence of increased crowds, but some teams do it every year so there ust be some perceived benefit.1 point

A decent opening night to the season. Not the biggest craven crossed I've seen but not bad for what was a very wet day which would have put of the late buyers. Regarding the presentation team. Its all new this year except for the announcer in refs box so will always be teething problems to begin with. It will get better the more Lee does it1 point

I not a Tai Woffinden fan but acknowledge his racing achievements, and certainly respect his decision to drop out of this years GPs before the season started.1 point

A decent (ish) crowd for a PCMT, and opening night, with the weather maybe knocking a fair few off the total, (hopefully they streamed it)... Some excellent close racing in several races, with Kurtz and Fricke showing great trust and ability to race each other so closely, and hard, at top speed... Kvech too, in heat 19 was brilliant riding around the first two turns. Not many ride that close to the fence, in the, by then, "deep stuff" and gain positions... A great final with Bewley and Holder both riding hard and fair.... All in all, a very decent start to the season, with all the GP riders having opportunities to show their higher level of capability... Roll on those two GP's...1 point

Spot on. Sums up why this venture has attracted so many negative comments from people that look at the bigger picture. We all want this to be a success but that doesn’t mean we can’t be realistic.1 point
-
Majority on here seem very negative towards this new venture. A shame really as they need to have fans behind them. Peterborough, Birmingham and Coventry are lost and fans could easily head over to Northampton to give their support. I wish them all the best in this venture. It’s going to be hard to start from scratch in a town not known for speedway. Hopefully the locals will come out to see what it’s all about and a fanbase can be built. Good luck to them.1 point

The jubilant scenes from the 5k+ that attended the final, coupled with the celebrations from management, riders and staff, definitely proves it was worth winning 😉1 point

While that might be true that doubling up is keeping the sport running it does nothing to make it credible. without credibility it won’t grow and the media certainly isn’t interested in it’s current guise. try going into your local pub and explaining how doubling up and guests work in our sport. It’s embarrassing1 point

He's put in one hell of a shift since coming on board for speedway at the back end of last year for sure.1 point

Where does this narative that he has been made a figure head of the sport come from? The only stated aim as far as I can see is that he was going to provide his contact list to try to open doors1 point

Speedway fans have always preferred regular weekly home meetings, whilst I appreciate theres too many Friday clubs ( should never have allowed Scunthorpe or Glasgow to change ) theres just too many blank weeks in the key summer months. Its all right the management saying the dates are reserved for this and that but what happens if you dont qualify for this and that ? Can see crowds dwindling this season.1 point
