Yes he did a lot to improve things in the sport, especially the race night experience and the appearance of the sport on TV. He was never going to be allowed to make it into a proper sport as the powers that be just aren't interested in doing that. I think he may have had a hand in introducing some new riders to the UK. He did make the massive bottom burp of interfering with the play offs the season before last though but he did fess up to that understood it was wrong and owned it. Couldn't see him staying on as soon as the TV cleared off.4 points

Another who could see what the sport (in the UK), could be, if only it could become credible and authentic within a team sport concept... But was never going to change things when so many (who financially sustain the sport), are quite content with what they have.. He definitely helped with Coventry and their ongoing battle to get back to Brandon...3 points

Even for 2026, Phil has been a great advocate for British Speedway Premiership and has done lots of work behind the scenes which most people simply do not see. Always knowing that his role of Chief executive wasn’t to continue this year due to lack of money He was instrumental in keeping Ipswich going including being part of a consortium that made an offer to keep it going if Mayfield deal had fallen through. Has also had a a lot to do with the opening of Northampton giving guidance of what was required to get Speedway running along with being involved in the negotiations with stadium owners and management . There has been some failures previously maybe the loss of TV deal being the greatest but he did explore various options but none could be got over the line for various reasons. It has not been helped by some promotions not backing him fully. He wanted to modernise the product to try to get in new fans and sponsors some of which cost money like for tv meetings having a set presentation team and DJ, Lights and fire cannons on centre field but certain promotions wouldn’t back this and could even be objective like refusing to move advertising A boards for tv meetings and not even keeping the league sponsorship ones clean. Phil was also key to a number of top names returning to the UK like Woofy , Janowski and Lindgren along with brokering deals for Lambert and Dudek to ride for clubs to then back down on the deals2 points

Did ok in the GP series but no impact in the Premier League but thats hardly surprising given the current set up2 points

That won’t be a problem so long as you’re not expecting it in one heat!2 points

In the good old days when we had a functional sport with competitors. For how many years did we have the old fashioned tactical rule of using any rider when 6 points behind. I always thought it worked quite well to be honest?2 points

Just saw this from Ben Barker on Facebook following what happened to Tobias Thomsen (hope he gets better soon): "Really wish tobias a speedy recovery... horrible timing for any accident but to find out we are not insured by the bspl like we have been for the last 30years that I remember... probably get fined for this but as captain of my team this needs addressing... please share this post so this gets addressed and sorted ASAP" I'm not 100% sure of the ins and outs of this, so hoping someone in the know can shed some light on it, but it sounds pretty bad if the BSPL have moved the goalposts and not told the riders...1 point

You changed your post! 😉 Read it earlier and forum changes swear words out for other words like rubbish. So not my fault! 😁1 point

"Manager Mark Lemon is forced into two changes following Norick Blodorn’s crash in Heat 1 last week which saw him signed out of UK racing for nine days, whilst captain Brady Kurtz is serving a mandatory eight-day suspension after missing the Sheffield away match due to illness." We certainly don't help ourselves in this country forcing riders to miss meetings when one assumes they actually could and want to ride!1 point

With bad weather due later Pila v Rybnik now starts 20mins early at 3.10pm UK time. Covers on in Bydgoszcz.1 point
-
Lodz have a meeting at home to Pila next Saturday, so that would probably rule out Dan Thompson for Edinburgh. Though if they were due to get the guest facility for last night I see no reason why they shouldn't get the same for next Saturday.1 point

Could this be rearranged for next Saturday as both clubs don't have a meeting?1 point

Get well soon ,mind you a proper rider would have asked how the bike was lol,all the best marra .1 point

There were Friday fixtures in Poland. Friday is not a Premier League designated day Stocks will rule roost at tracks where they race and they will pick days to suit them. So few fixtures these days, might as well race in summer rather than the Easter snow as we often used to,1 point

Taken from the ACU website - The cost of an Auto-Cycle Union (ACU) competition licence and registration will be subject to a modest increase in 2026 as new-and-improved personal accident insurance becomes integrated into the annual fee as standard. The decision to set the competition licence fee at £98, the new-for-2026 national trial registration at £50, and the club trial registration at £35 for a full season of ACU competition reflects the national governing body of British motorcycle sport’s commitment to improving rider protection and simplifying how insurance is delivered across its permitted events. The current insurance model requires organisers to pay for personal accident cover, a cost that is reflected in riders’ event entry fees. The decision to introduce a new approach in 2026 comes after a two-year review of insurance and safety arrangements across all ACU activity. It also marks the start of a new partnership between the ACU and Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance that will bring increased value and support for riders, organisers and officials. Central to the new-and-improved personal accident insurance benefits the ACU has secured for its riders in 2026 is hospitalisation payments that will now begin after 72 hours in hospital, rather than the previous 14-day threshold. These payments will be paid daily up to a maximum of £2,000 per hospital stay. As well as this, public liability cover of £40 million will remain in place for all competitive events run under an ACU permit. These insurance benefits do not apply to non-ACU competitions. Matthew Edwards-Wear, CEO of the Auto-Cycle Union, said: “Introducing a modest competition licence and registration fee increase is necessary to provide the best insurance package currently available within UK motorcycle sport. “We are proud the ACU is there for riders if they suffer an injury at one of our permitted events and the benefits that come with the latest personal accident insurance package we’ve secured for 2026 is proof of that commitment. “Bringing the personal accident payment – which amounts to £20 for an entire season – into the rider licence or registration fee also helps organisers by reducing their event costs and admin. With costs increasing in other areas of motorcycle sport, it’s important the ACU family supports those that do such a great job when organising the events we all compete in.” I guess Thomsen would need something similar under his Danish licence.1 point

Isn't it a bit soon to be shouting and screaming at the BSPL, it could be correct, but as things read at the moment, it would seem the insurance is still there, just arranged in a different way? true, its not very clear at the moment, but too soon to start running around like headless chickens, let's get the facts first1 point

Under the current leadership the sport is doomed. They are running it into the ground.1 point

I figured you would be the guy to know. Massive F up that they didn't tell anyone if true! Doubt it'll get sorted now the season has started but we can hope 🫣1 point

just spoke to Ben, it seems there is no insurance from the bspl/SCB now, it was deducted from your wages per race but it seems this is not the case anymore, some riders do have personal cover and the Ben fund do help but no insurance is bad and needs to be addressed1 point

I once did a Good Friday of King's Lynn, Ippo, Arena & Peterborough and every single one was rained off lol... and we were in the car park for each one when it was called off... happy days, it was all part of the fun though (maybe not at the time) 😂 To have a 450 mile void of speedway on a bank holiday though is inexplicable 🤷♂️1 point
